Haze Berry is a well-known sativa-dominant hybrid that brings together the best of DJ Short’s Blueberry and Green House Seeds’ Super Silver Haze. Haze Berry Automatic is an autoflowering version of this popular strain, offering toned-down potency, the same great flavour, and a super-easy grow profile that’s perfect for beginners.
HAZE BERRY AUTOMATIC’S LINEAGE
Haze Berry Automatic builds upon the foundation of the original, an 80% sativa-dominant hybrid that brought together two epic strains from the US and Europe: Blueberry and Super Silver Haze.
Blueberry was first bred by DJ Short and shot to fame after winning Best Indica at the 2000 High Times Cannabis Cup. It boasts deliciously sweet berry flavours and induces a long-lasting, relaxing euphoria. Blueberry is also loved for its dense, frosty, and colourful buds.
The history of Blueberry is believed to date back to the 1970s, but, as is often the case with cannabis strains, its exact genetic lineage is shrouded in mystery. DJ Short is rumoured to have been working with landrace strains from all over the world. Some sources suggest Blueberry is a mix of two Thai landrace strains, while others suggest Blueberry is a cross between The Flo (another DJ Short classic) and a highland Thai strain known as “Juicy Fruit”.
Super Silver Haze, on the other hand, was bred by experts in the Netherlands. While the Haze variety originates from California, many of the classic Haze strains we know and love today were created by Dutch breeders.
Super Silver Haze, for example, was bred by Neville Schoenmakers at Green House Seeds. It combines original Haze genetics with Skunk and Northern Light to create a very resinous sativa renowned for its potency and long-lasting, uplifting euphoria.
Haze Berry Automatic combines the best of both legendary strains in a neat little autoflowering package. While it’s not as potent as the original, it provides a very pleasant buzz that alerts the mind and relaxes the body. Plus, it’s a super-easy strain to grow, even for beginners.
GROWING HAZE BERRY AUTOMATIC
Haze strains are typically very difficult to grow. Due to their strong sativa genetics, these strains grow tall and take a long time to flower. They are very prone to stretching, meaning they can be difficult to manage in small spaces, especially for rookie growers. Outdoors, these plants tend to grow extremely large, which can be very intimidating for the inexperienced, and for those trying to keep operations discreet.
Thanks to its ruderalis genetics, Haze Berry Automatic takes all the hard work out of growing a Haze strain. These plants are ridiculously easy to manage, even for the most inexperienced.
As with any autoflower, it’s best to plant your Haze Berry Automatic seedlings directly into their final container. To ensure your plants have sufficient room to develop their roots, consider using at least 10l pots.
Haze Berry Automatic plants will flower automatically after about 3–4 weeks of veg. During the vegetative phase, give your plants a regular veg fertiliser to help them develop as much healthy foliage as possible. Forget about high-stress training or pruning your plants, as they won’t have time to recover from the damage.
Once they start flowering, switch your Haze Berry Automatic plants over to some good-quality bloom feed. They’ll be ready to harvest after about 10 weeks from germination, at which point you can expect decent harvests of about 80g/plant (outdoors).
EFFECT, FLAVOUR, AND AROMA OF HAZE BERRY AUTOMATIC
Unlike the original Haze Berry, the autoflowering version only contains about 13% THC. Nonetheless, it produces a nice, balanced, and relaxing high. This is a perfect strain for daytime use in between tasks and chores. It’ll help you relax, focus, and it might even spark some creative thinking.
Haze Berry Automatic is also a great strain for parties or social events, leaving you feeling talkative and friendly. Thanks to its low potency, it’s also great for sharing with people who might not be accustomed to the more intense effects of super-potent strains (like the original Haze Berry).
Thanks to its lower potency, Haze Berry Automatic is a great strain for people with a lower tolerance for THC, or who simply find the effects of “knockout” strains a little overwhelming. There’s no real need to take it slow with this strain, as its effects kick in very subtly and wear off rather quickly (when compared to other, more potent varieties).
In terms of flavour and aroma, Haze Berry Automatic is strikingly similar to the original. Its aroma is dominated by sweet berry notes, although you might also detect some soft herbal undertones mixed with hints of spice and incense (characteristic of Haze strains). When grown, dried, and cured properly, this strain makes for a very smooth and sweet smoke.
