Heya Farmers, I had a lot of fun with last years competition, I have such a big Dutch Passion seed collection now! Still I couldn't pass up on the chance to grow Tangie with a bunch of other people, this is one of my favourite strains. I'm not the best at organics, so this diary will be a learning experience, I'm sure I will end up with some wonderful weed, this has never not been the case growing Dutch Passion for me. I used the float technique to germinate, I took a shot-glass of 1% hydrogen peroxide and let the seed float on top for 12 hours in a warm, dark cabin, after she opened up i soaked a rapid rooter and dropped her in there. 24 hours later we had a little seedling. I waited a week for the roots to start poking out of my rapid rooter and then transplanted her in a mix of Perlite, organic soil and worm castings, all locally sourced. hoping for no bugs, so far it's been smooth sailing. she's under some cheap shoplights until my tents open up, I find that seedlings tend to do better under 6500k t5 Leds than full spectrum grow lights anyway. Growth will be slow, as I might keep her root-bound until tents open up, this also allows us to get a feel for her stress resistance. Hope everyone enjoys the competition! Remember to have fun, your grow itself will be the biggest award.

Hey farmers, Not a great amount of growth this week, the little girl is still focused on spreading her roots in her new pot, I see new roots poking out so she’s in the organic medium now, I assume it takes a while for nutrients from the worm castings to get going. I’m normally a Dwc man, last competition I almost pulled in 300g dry bud, don’t think we’ll be seeing those yields or fast growth. But that’s not what we’re after with this grow, focusing on low maintance:High quality, sacrificing the yield dwc gets us for the laid back water only experience organic growing provides, focusing on training rather than nutrient mixing during my spare time. Not much to see in these early weeks but I’ll make sure to tell you guys everything of note I do along the way.

Hey farmers, Not a lot of note this week, the cotyledons yellowed, so I added some enzymes, shell be up-potted as soon as the tent is free, in the meantime I might have to topdress and use some organic fertilizer. for this week though, she was still in an organic lightmix, and received in total half to 3/4ths of a litre of water all week, I also fixed her environment and brought the humidity up. I also started neem oil treatments, I find organic soil you really need the pest prevention. The plan is to top next week, then let her grow leggy in a 19L (5 gal) fabric pot for a few weeks, then I will Scrog her down and fill a 70x70 with beautiful tangie buds. I had a timelapse last competition, I'll try to start a timelapse as soon as she goes into a tent. growth is stunted right now due to the small pot, weak lighting and lightmix soil, it's intentional since i'm waiting for a growspace to open up, this is the nice thing about feminized weed, you can put it aside for a long time before it becomes a problem. I have a lot of stuff going on in my life right now, I won't overshare, but growing has taken a backseat, still, I couldn't pass up to grow Tangie with other people! My goal is to be informative so that other growers also growing this strain can have as direct of a comparison as possible.

Hey fellow farmers, In the beginning of this week I ended up topping, slow her down a little bit, she recovered fast and is begging to be potted up Should be the last week she's stuck in her little pot, she's doing great, lower leaves are starting to turn yellow ever so slightly. The tent is almost free now, this girl will go into a 5 gallon bag with biotabs, let to grow lanky a little bit, and then i will scrog her down.

Heya farmers, Time to get to work, my flower tent opened up and it just so happens that this baby is ready for some SCROGging. I also fed her some Power roots by Plagron, this won't hurt my soil life and help the roots a bit, It's essentially just kelp, acid and K which promotes root growth, it's not like a fancy mycorrhizae or anything. before moving her over, I took 2 additional clones and put these in my homemade cloner. I'll be running this strain twice, so i hope she's good! I'm hoping both clones root, I changed some things about my cloner, as a result the clones are in a very high humidity area, whilst constantly being fed new oxygen, I have some fun ideas for the clones, I might run one in a Hydro Coffee-can setup speaking of clones, the top is doing great, growth looks extremely dense, however. We'll see how she does. Next week or 2 we will bend the tops under the trellis, trying to fill the trellis as much as possible. then I will cut off everything below the trellis and flip to flower. Combined with my very big light, this should give us a tent full of nice, firm buds, Lets see if Tangie can do it

Hey farmers. I’m still not done vegging, I want to fill my scrog net more, hoping I also use up a lot of the nitrogen in the soil before flipping to flower. The tucking has started, this plant is really dense, which is great, but makes scrogging a little harder. Still documenting my clones, not sure I’ll continue once they are established, since it’s more of the same plant, I will grow one of them in a super small container using hydroponics, should be interesting (and a PITA). I’m still learning soil, it’s hard, I feel very out of control compared to DWC.

Hey Farmers, I hope the clones don't clutter the diary, or confuse you guys, wanted to show the progress and have some fun with a clone. One of them is now in a micro DWC setup, a reservoir of less than a litre she will be flipped pretty soon, to keep her compact. Now for the main plant, she's so incredibly bushy, I'm not going to veg much longer, in fact I might flip next week. She's very indica like in nature, very strange for tangie, Dutch passion notified me this seed batch stretches less, here's hoping i still get some sativa stretch.

Hey farmers, I made the flip to 12/12 somewhere in the middle of this week, the plant immediately reacted, with fresh light green growth all over the canopy. There’s preflowers all over this girl, and my scrogging gave us a lot of equal tops, I'll be tucking for another week or so, either until i run out of room or the buds start to set. I am anxious to see what flower brings, I think I'll be growing all clones out, so i hope the smoke is okay. No more organic fertilizer for now, she'll use what's left during stretch. I'm not great at organics but the automatic watering pump+mulch layer of weed leaves seems to keep stuff happy and moist. If i see early senescence again this plant, I'll be giving up on biotabs.

Yo Farmers. it's been around 10 days or so since changing to flower and we've already got buds starting to grow, that's an incredibly short stretch for a sativa, I am quite worried about end product, but we do have a full canopy of these tiny buds I guess. I also flowered all of the clones, including the micro dwc, This is because I need to stop growing marijuana for a while, so I'm finishing this girl up, then packing up my tents because of a time in real life calls for no weed. Once it's all fully legal these situations will be a thing of the past, but until then I urge people to stay low and be careful, however when breaking a law you disagree with, you must accept the punishment. These plants were switched to 12-12 on 14/07/2023, today is 24/07/2023. It is uncommon to see bud formation this fast, especially for a sativa. I'm glad I vegged for 2 months, my clones do not have that luxury.

Hey farmers Week 2 of flower and I already have a sea of little buds, I did not expect this strain to be this fast, I normally expect the first two weeks to be just stretch. Luckily I vegged her for a little bit longer than I would typically have. The little buds look great and I’m excited to see how she does. I had a major timer failure due to a power outage, as a result for 1 day the plant had extra light at random intervals during her night cycle, it seems to have not affected her, here’s to hoping there’s no seeds

Week 3 of flower is over, The buds are shaping up nicely, however she is extremely light and lower leaves are yellowing, she’s definitely struggling. I have ruled out pH, soil and water both are at 6.2, I think she might be suffering from both led light burn and a nitrogen deficiency, those two go hand in hand, once the plant runs out of nitrogen it can’t really tolerate high PPFD and as a result both my lower leaves and top leaves directly in the light are yellowing. I have started feeding organic bottled nutrients and have turned the lights down, hopefully she recovers nicely, bud growth hasn’t really slowed down a lot so I’m very hopeful, sadly she doesn’t smell nearly as much as her clones, which did not run out of nitrogen. This is the last time I’m using bio tabs, it might be user error, but every grow with them I run out of food early in flower. I will continue onward, feeding organic nutrients by plagron, hoping we can still get a decent harvest. I have some fungus gnats and some other small pests, this happens nearly every run now, does anyone know how I could eradicate all fungus gnats? Please let me know. Thanks for checking out week 3, i hope next week this plant will have recovered at least a bit, it's too early for her to start dying.

Hey growmies, It’s been 31 days since flipping to flower, my tent is filled with buds. I think I managed to recover this plant, if you look back to week 10 and 11 you can see this plant was struggling, losing her dark green colour and yellowing. I raised my lights, getting PPFD from 1100 down to 850, I have also started feeding organic nutrients. The organic nutrients alone will feed my plants, but my soil needed a recharge, too. I suspect a lot of the soil bacteria started dying back, so to try and replenish the ranks I topdressed with worm castings, and created a compost tea using molasses and organic worm castings. Neem oil was not enough to get rid of the few thrips I had, so I opted for Spinosad, an organic bioinsecticide which is derived from the fermentation juices of a soil bacterium called Saccharopolyspora spinosa I decided spinosad was the best option because it’s organic and safe to spray in flower, neem oil can’t go on flowers, reducing its effectiveness. After just one dose of spinosad applied in a foliar spray, My garden is pest free, and it looks like the tea and organic fertiliser is also getting color back into my plant. The smell so far is mainly skunk, no oranges (yet) but it's clear this run is back on track. The trichomes are okay, I've had frostier strains, I can still see new calyxes growing, so she's definitely still putting on more weight, it might be to early to call anything I also included some pictures of the clones, they really show what a difference ScrOGging makes, since the clones were topped once and let to grow naturally

Hey farmers, Week 5 of flower and my flowers are stacking nicely, I defoliated a bit but I will definitely continue to pull more over the coming days. I have a pretty good feeling about this plant, I think she will yield me over 200 grams of bud, just have to wait it out now. You can tell in the picture she's got some burned tips, I kept aggressively feeding on purpose until I saw this, just wanted to make sure she had enough after being without during stretch. At the end of the week I dropped some coco coir on the plant whilst moving stuff around ontop of the tent, very frustrating, it's sticking to the trichomes. Not much I can do, It was dry and clean, guess ill just pick it off over the next few weeks or during harvest

Hey farmers, She’s reaching the harvest window as noted by Dutch Passion, however looking at the plant you can tell she has a few more weeks to go. There’s still so many new calyxes swelling, if they all mature nicely, I will be left with a lot of bud, it doesn’t look or smell half bad either. The clones are struggling a bit, the tent they are in is not a good environment for flower, this is okay because it really shows off what a difference environment makes. The clone looks like it’s calcium deficient despite being the same plant, same nutrients, same soil, the only difference is environment, it’s that crazy they also look like completely different strains Let’s see how she finishes over the next couple of weeks

Hey everyone. Getting closer to harvest, the weather has been disastrous, very hot and humid, I’m praying we didn’t get mold spores, but where I live, it’s the perfect conditions for it. I’ll keep a very close eye for budrot and dying buds. If I find any I’ll probably harvest asap. That said, I hope to go two more weeks at least

Hey growmies, Week 9 flower has concluded, technically we’re closing up on week 10, this girl was switched to 12-12 on 14th of July, so as of writing, it is day 66, the pictures are also from day 66 flower. Happy to be mold free so close to the finish line, one of my buds had a fan fell on it, couple of weeks ago caused it to grow funny and bruise, i was scared it would mold but it didn't. The smell is so pleasant, next week will likely be the last update before harvest The clones are probably getting chopped this following week, they look a little rough, I'll likely harvest the main buds and keep the rest for edibles. I'll post a final few pictures of my clones, the next few updates will mainly focus on the competition plant

Quick foreword: I hate how Growdiaries does Harvest and Smoke separately and then messes up all the pictures. Please bear with me, I tried to label them all. Wowsers, what a trip this contest grow turned out to be! I am so sorry to submit it one day before the deadline, life got in the way, but the good news is this lovely plant has had a chance to fully cure and she’s been helping me through big changes in my life. Dry weights will be in the Smoke report. I have only input the mother’s dry weight as the total end dry weight. This is because this is a competition diary and the rule is one plant. Consider the clones a successful experiment. They are only here to document how hardy this plant is and how easy she is to clone. Remember, one of the clones was the top of the plant I cut off when topping her before flipping. I usually can never get those to root, but this plant clones very easily! As always, the main plant was dried in a cardboard wardrobe box, modified to have a 5v USB fan extracting air at the bottom. This helps prevent mold but keeps moisture in for a slower dry, which leaves some more terpenes. Drying took around two weeks. Trimming was a pain. I love the smell of this plant, but her lowers are so leafy. If you go back to around the weeks where I flipped, you can clearly see I left too many lower nodes and as a result I had too much of a bush. The Micro DWC experiment ended up surprising me the most. Check out the smoke review for its weight and taste! some people also asked me how far I keep my lights, I don't measure the distance, sorry. I use Photone on iOS and push the ppfd of my plants up to 1000 during flower. The Soil clones and the main competition plant were planted in organic soil from a local garden center mixed with organic fertalizer tablets and worm castings, the clones were in 1L and 3 gallon pots and the main competition plant was planted in a 5 gallon growbag. once the plants ran out of food I fed Plagron's Alga line. the DWC clone used just Plagron Hydro A+B and extra PK 13/14 in flower, this is by far the cheapest and most effective way in my experience, it could be due to lack of skill in organics, but you can clearly see, my DWC plant is frostier than my soil ones, and they're the exact same phenotype. I'll probably be going back to hydroponics, I'm not saying organic isn't the way to go, but for me personally, my skillset and way of growing better fits the artificial nutrients, and as a result my DWC plants flourish. I feel more in control with DWC, I know exactly what's going on in my buckets, whereas with organics I'm often scratching my head in frustration.
