Got the canuck puk for a great price. Testing the seeds in soil debate. I'm using fox farm ocean forest with added perlite. I flushed it with R.O water just once before placing seeds in. I put cheese and blueberry in jiffy pods just in case the soil was to hot and fried the other plants. Seeds were soaked in R.O. water for 18 hours prior to planting. Trying to keep things simple this time around, soil, water, light and little else. I add a little calmag to the R.O. water throughout the grow just to prevent any deficiencies. My local tap water is terrible for cannabis. Minimal pruning and not training at all. Also keeping the veg period short and the pots small to control size. Sort of like a sea of green but I didn't pack the tent.
Off to a good start. Stretched a little because of the weak fluorescent light but, not too bad. Doesn't seem to be any problems with the soil being to hot for the seedlings. Not sure if the bit of a flush I did on the soil is the reason for that, but they seem to be happy.
No pics for this week, sorry. Started adding liquid weight to my watering routine, which is essentially just carbohydrates. Hopefully this will help feed the microbes to get full use out of this soil.
Very happy with how this is going, it's very low maintenance. I almost forget they are there. They are all starting to bud and I'm starting to see some differences between the plants. Blueberry seems to be the tallest and gorilla is not far behind.
Plants are doing great. I bought a bottle of gaia green power bloom soil amendments and mixed it into the top of the soil. Hopefully this will keep the plants and the soil microbes well fed. It contains stuff like rock dust, bone metal, kelp meal etc. Seems like a good quality product. Wanted to try this as opposed to a liquid nutrient mix. The blueberry plant is by far the largest and most mature plant at this point. Its leaves are standing straight up and I can't figure out why. The temp and humidity is normal and the light can't get much farther away. It's not a powerful light to begin with. She still seems to be happy so I'll let her be.
Blueberry is still doing well with her leaves standing up. She's a solid 18" which is about what I was hoping for with this size of container. Upgraded my lights to a 400 watt hps, hoping that it will help them pack on a little more weight.
Just RO water from here out. They should be done anytime in the next couple of weeks. Blueberry is the most mature at this point. It was during this week I discovered a nanner sticking right out the top of kushy. I pulled her immediately and cut her head off. Hopefully she didn't pollinate all the other. This is probably the result of switching the light mid flower.
I can't fairly judge this plant as I caused it stress which in turn made it grow bananas. Harvesting early lead to a really small yield, but after a few weeks of curing, it turns out it is more potent than I though it would be. The smoke is still a little harsh (only been curing for 2 weeks) but it is just as potent as the white widow I grew. I will try growing this one again.
Hate that I had to harvest early but it had to be done. The change in lighting systems seems to have stressed her out enough to cause bananas. She could have used at least another week to mature. Only about 50% of the pistles had turned orange and up close it looks like some of the tricomes are still clear. One thing I noticed about this particular plant was that it was very hairy. The buds now that they are mostly dry are fairly dense but small. Small harvest about 7 grams of nice buds that smell delicious.
This is the current week. June 13th. Blueberry will be next to finish for sure, and probably also produce the largest yield. Gorilla is not far off and should produce a decent yield as well. Cheese is short but the buds are getting bigger and she's not showing signs of maturing yet. I've found 2 red hairs on her at this point. So hopefully cheese will produce a small, but better yield than kushy did.
Another week and these ones seem to be doing alright. I wasn't expecting them to take this long to ripen but these two seem healthy anyway. The blueberry succumbed to the light stress I think and it started having bananas all over. She was pretty close but I still would have liked to let her age a little longer. Harvest dairy to follow.
This plant grew the strongest and fastest of the four plants I grew. It really does smell like blueberry when you rub the sugar leaves. It was odd that the leaves stayed upright for most of flowering (no matter how far from the light) but it also allowed more light to the lower buds.
On further thought about growing this plant I am wondering if the leaf issue I had was due to the small container size for the plant. It didn't come up In my many searches on the subject but Its the only thing I can think that might have caused some stress.
I like to wash, and then trim my buds wet. The leaves don't stick to the clippers at all that way and it's so much faster and easier. The weights you see above are of fully trimmed nice buds and not the clippings and popcorn.
This one wins for the most unique smell I think. Not as strong as I was expecting, but instead actually like real blueberries in having a more subtle odour. If anybody has feedback on there experiences with the smell of the blueberry chemovar I would love to hear it.
Smoked at 3 weeks of cure. Still a little harsh on the throat, hoping that improves with time. Tastes and smells good otherwise. When you break up the buds is when you really get that unique berry smell. I found the high is very relaxing, calm and happy.
Wow, I can't believe I'm in the tenth week of flower. I really wasn't expecting these to take so long. They are both doing very well, leaves are slowly starting to die off and they both have about 50% of the hairs have turned, and the trichomes are mostly white. Just waiting to see a little amber
Well I guess I spoke to soon. I'm finally seeing some amber trichomes now. Especially on the cheese I will probably take the 2 remaining plants down tomorrow, day 78 of flower.
At day 76 for flowering and still not ripe, is this normal for cheese and gorilla strains in soil? Or am I counting wrong? Do I start counting from the flip? Or from when you start seeing pistils?
Every grow is different and like all strains there are different pheno types so it's always best to use a jeweller loupe to verify and find out for sure.
Small but mighty plant, same size as the kushy but she definately benefited from the light upgrade and the extra time. I'm anxious to see what the dry weight is because the buds are quite dense. The smell is strong of skunk and pine right now but I'm hoping that that cheesey funk comes out more with a proper cure. As I said previously, I like to wash my buds before I trim and I like to trim them wet. I have included a before and after close up of the main cola for anyone out there that is concerned about losing trichomes. If you are going to wash just be careful not to bash them off the side of your water containers and they will be fine. I use doc bud brix method if you want to look it up. I first cut off the branches and remove fan leaves and small leaves and tips that don't have any trichomes on them. Then i wash them, shake them out a bit and then trim off all the goodies for extracts and edibles. That way I know all the material I will be using is clean.
Didn't get very big but I'm pretty happy with how easy it was to look after this one. No signs of any problems through the entire grow. I will follow up with weights and smoke report as soon as it's ready, and I can't wait!!
This one definately has the strongest smell by far. Even days after the chop she still has that great skunky sort of smell, not even a hint of that fresh cut grass smell you get with most plants. The buds are also beautiful to look at. I can see why this one is such a classic.
Smoked some at 2 weeks of curing and I couldn't be happier with the results. The smoke was smooth and tasty and the buzz was fantastic. I will be growing a lot more of this one.
This is by far the stickiest of the four plants and could end up having the highest yield as well, or if not at least as much as the blueberry. It fox tailed a little bit but the stress of changing the light didn't cause any other problems like with the kushy and the blueberry.
Can't wait to try this one!! I've heard gorilla is pretty strong and I can believe it. The trichomes are on almost every leaf right to the tips. The trim would make a good amount of bubble hash I'm sure. She smells pretty strong too, can't wait to see what it's like after cure. Now that its fully dried and in the jar its distinct smell is starting to come out. I didn't know what to expect and I was pretty surprised at what it smelled like. It's not like anything I've smelled before and I was getting a little concerned that maybe something went wrong. Then I read a description of the strain on puresativa.com that described it as a " chemical tennis ball funk" and it all made sense.
Final picture is of the main cola of each plant. Gorilla takes the prize for yield, the buds are very dense and sticky.
Just tried it the other day. About 4 weeks curing and fuck is it ever potent.
Hi! Start count when flip to 12/12. It's normal phenotype differences.. Some might get ready bit earlier. Hope this helps out. Happy harvest! Hehe I'm sure it's gonna be looks good 👌
Hi @indoorontario! 10 week into flowering is a common thing, and many environmental factors could impact the duration of the late flowering stage. They are close from being ready, but you don't want to rush anything. As always with home growing, patience is the key 😎 You did a great job, keep us updated on the harvest and happy growing! 👊
