This grow showed me that it is not always as straightforward and easy as my first grow was. After all the issues I experienced between weeks 4 & 5 I thought it would only get better from here on. Oh boy was I wrong. I had planned to switch to flower after week 5 and defoliated to prepare for flowering. Unfortunately one of the topped main stems of one of the Shogun plants snapped clean off and the attempt to have it grow back on failed. Due to this, all three babies were under a lot of stress. All three plants were defoliated but I had to let the one Shogun with the snapped stem recover. So I decided to let the ladies recover during week 6. Unfortunately, I saw nutrient and PH issues once again plus I realized that the substrate was too wet and I planned to let the substrate dry out a bit which never seemed to happen even though I wasn't watering. But I so dearly wanted to water again to straighten out the PH issues and signs of nutrient deficiencies. During hours of reading up I finally realized that the issues I was noticing were 100% self-induced. During previous research, I came across CO2 bags and I had decided to use one for my next grow. It is to be said that I am growing in a Home Box S (65cmx65cmx120cm). So I hung the CO2 bag up in the tent, switched the ventilator off, and left the babies sitting in most probably extreme levels of CO2 (I don't have a CO2 meter) and without any airflow. This lead to VPD (Vapour Pressure Deficit) issues. The ladies were unable to exchange gases due to the high humidity and the missing airflow which meant they were unable to uptake nutrients which stunted growth and lead to the issues shown in the pictures. Not to forget about all the other stress the plants were under. Once realized I chucked the CO2 bag (which was misused during veg anyway...), switched the ventilator and fan on, and let ladies breathe. They seemed to recover well but now I was a bit overzealous with the feeding and probably fed a bit too much. I stuck to the Biobizz instructions but the ladies had some problems getting to a healthy state. Especially the Shogun plant with the snapped stem is lacking behind in growth. The main stem is bigger than the main stems of the other two plants but the rest of the plant does not quite want to grow as well. The latest new growth seems to be healthy and the canopy looks lush and dense. I will have to switch to flower now going into week 6 since I am running out of space. Both Shogun and Critical have a fairly long flowering period and I hope that I will get the problems under control for the remainder of the grow. Tips and thoughts of all you fellow growers are welcome!!
