Slow growth and yellowing of older leaves in my seedlings: I think Premier ProMix BX isn't airy enough and holds onto water too long for seedlings (5 days between watering). Can an experienced soil grower confirm this and recommend a better store-bought seedling starting mix?

Did you make a few holes at the bottom of the cup? if not, go ahead and do it, it will help drain the excess of water. When watering, only do it when the cup feels really light. Also, 5 days is ok between watering. What you need to do is raise the temperatures above 23°C (73°F), then you will see better growth, below that threshold, the growth slows down to a crawl.

Hey there, so your soil mix could be too hot(lots of nutrients), i wouldn't add more and if you do, add very low like 1/4 strength. Check and add more drainage holes to each cup. Also add a very small clip fan into your closet. Good luck. Usually they will grow out of these problems but definitely make sure you're not stuck in muddy too wet soil.

hey there bike4canna, you're not actually using soil you're using peat moss which is what is inside the light mix. it's call potting mix but it's soiless actually, comes from a non-renewable ressource and has no nutrients in it ! great for roots, not so great for the the begginer grower. why? because it has no nutes in it? am i sure? yes i am? how? made the same mistake recently lol. so what you want to do to save your seedlings is add magnesium or cal mag asap, your seedlings are showing signs of magnesium deficiency. check your ph too, peat moss has wierd ph. next time just go with normal soil. what i'm doing this time with my light mix is layering it with my soil, going soil / light mix / soil / light mix / soil / light mix seven layers light that to get the benefit of the airy light mix but none of the headache of actually growing soilless, which is what you're experiencing right now. Hope this helps bro ! good luck 🚀

Your soil is definitely holding water to long. Roots Organic is what I use for everything! It's great because it's organic and you can start using nutrients after 2 weeks. But Fox Farm Ocean Forest or Light Warrior is specifically made for seeds and cutting's and the work great as well.
