Germination styles

Interested in finding out what the most popular germ method is. It said only 8% use the same method as I do (jiffy plug). Even though it claims users have 90+% success rate. What do you do? What is your success rate?

the real interesting fact, it seems like overall all germination metod has the same germination %? i have used 1 jiffy with 100% and prior to that i used directly in smoll soil pot.100%. And i have also used a 12h pre-soak+ soil pots. 100%. I've had great success with all, but not with 3 cookie gelatos, which i got a full refund on becouse there was seed issues with those.

24hr in water seed pops put into a jiffy pellet (after absorption I squeeze it a bit to drain some water out no issues this way) then into final pot for autos an 1gallon pot for photos.

Soak and papertowel is the most common method I believe, it's easy and it works - unless you make it too wet for too long or let it dry out, that is.

Haha now I’m gonna say that I use the paper towel method and have no issues. I don’t soak my paper towel I just get it nice and damp and make sure there’s room in the bag to form water droplets on the inside of the bag. I alway have good results. Once the seed shows its tap root I drop it in medium just a 1/4 inch down and wait for it to come up. I have also just dropped the seed in soils and put it outside and waited for it come out on its own. That took about 14 days for it to pop. I’m not a fan of peat pellets. They seem unstable and hard to work with once they’re wet. I like little coco starter pots. Once roots show out the bottom you can just kind of break up the pot a little bit and drop it right into your next pot when transplanting. It’s really all about personal preference man. Once you find what works for you, that will be your go to method. Happy growing friend.

I started with the wet paper towel method but I found it easy to be too wet and rotted some seeds. My success rate was an embarrassing 50% before I abandoned the paper towel. Now I soak my seeds in water for 24-36 hours then I plant them in a hydrated peat pellet which in turn gets planted in my potting soil. With the soak and peat pellet method I've had a 100% success rate.

I don’t recommend peat plugs / jiffy pellets for germinating just of the amount of ppl I’ve seen on here have issues of dampening off. I personally thing they hold too much water. My procedure is as follows- Cup of room temp water with a splash of regular 3% peroxide at a ratio of 10:1 or 5:1 - some ppl do 1:1. Let it soak for 24-48 hours, I will encourage them to submerge every once in a while. Most seeds will be cracked open or have taproot after 48 hrs. Then I go straight into a 2” rockwool cube. Open up a hole and carefully insert til it’s just below the top of the rockwool. Then tear a little piece off the corner and cover the hole you put it in. Have them in propagation trays with cover on.. put them under weak light. Heating pad is nice but I never use one anymore. My germ rates have been 95% or so the past 6 months. I also tried the peat foam plugs like root root or rapid rooter. They’re great too. I just had some develop mold so that turned me off. I think the downfall of jiffy plugs is just not enough oxygen in the root zone/too moist
