Training autos - predicting peak of vigor on plants

Hi Growers, I've done lst and hst on autos before but not always the same nice results and I wonder what tips you might have or what markers I might look for in the plant to know if it's on point for training. How to identify the peak of vigor before it happens in veg?

Hey there Seedlock , autos' stems "thicken up" quite quickly and it can be a bit difficult to train them and especially difficult for the training to pay off. You want to start as early as possible, something like 10 days , dont forget an anchor. if you leave it too long the bud sites get all stunted , that's the thing. you can tell by the appearance of 5 pointed leafs, try to do all that beforehand. Buy yourself some time by removing the leafs as they split or even beforehand.

@Organoman and @ChitownCannaChica Thank you for answering 👊 👌 So you mean that you get the same results if you do 1st top on a plant on it's 2nd week as if you do 1st top on one at 4 weeks? That doesn't seem accurate. I've read that training should only start when the plant is reaching the peak vigor so that it takes the least time recovering from every session I understand you might be talking only about LST not HST but even for that there must be a better time to start training than any random time no? I'll keep seraching. Thanks again for replying!

There is no "peak" time for training, it can be done at any time and up until about the second or third week of flowering, depending on flowering speed. It is best to do a little bit often, rather than a whole lot all at once, which is taxing on the plant. Also, try not to defoliate, it is unnecessary except in extreme cases of excessive humidity. Just remember, - Less leaves = less energy being made = less growth. It really is that simple.

Autos are more about genetics and environmental helpers versus LST. If you have good genetics and environment on point—- LST all day
