Male Female Ratio regular seeds?

robinlsstarted grow question 3 years ago
I have 6 regular seeds. I would like to save 2 for using in a backcross, most important is to get seeds out of the 4 I am germinating. I have heard different things about male female ratios. Out of 4 regular seeds what are my chances of getting AT LEAST one male one female?

Take 4 coins, Flip them all and see if you get at least one of each. Do this 10 times and you will have an idea of your chances of getting one of each.

The thing about science is that its a human concept. Science is often wrong. The science of today that is conceived to be right will be proven wrong tomorrow.

6 seeds 50/50 male/female. Out of 4 seeds chances are high you will get 1 of each sex. I would say 75-80% chance you get 1 of each sex if you pop 4 seeds.

So 50/50 as NobodyBuds clearly explained and all others agreed and with 4 my chances are at least pretty good I will get at least one of each sex. Thanks folks really appreciate it. 😀

always 50/50... xx x xy = 2 xy and 2xx. simple permutation... .5^x where x is the number of coin flips. so .5^4 * 100 = 6.25% chance all are male or female, if germinating 4. (.5 x .5 x .5 ...50%, 25%, 12.5%. 6.25%... etc... keep halving it for as long as you want) anyone who says otherwise on the 50/50 thing is outing themselves as uneducated about biology/genetics in even the most basic understanding and simply pulling shit from their asses when the knowledge exists otherwise. the plant has 2 sex chomosomes. sex gametes are formed through meosis. this will split up the genetic material evenly between two new cells created for sexual reproduction. under normal conditions, all ovaries will have 1 x chromosome, since the parent has 2 x's. All pollen will contain 1x or 1y chormosome evenly split, because it came from diploid cells with xy paring. pollen with 1 x or 1 y does not have any unique abilities that make it ore likely to find a pistil and knock up an ovary. so, it's seemingly random, although technically totally predictable with the right data collection and resolution. life is just dominos falling into the next domino... so, those sources that said it may not be 50/50/... you should suspect anything they say in regard to real science... because they overtly make things up when that knowledge exists and has existed for centuries

Personal experience has led me to believe it’s somewhere around 50/50. Is usually get close to the same with males and females, however usually leans to one random side or the other by just a little bit. Only sometimes is it even for me. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for yah.

Well in other words your asking what’s the chance you get all males or all females.. no? I’d put that chance at around 10-15 % personally. Chances are you’ll get 2 and 2, but you could easily get 1 and 3.. but 4 and 0 either way would be a bit tougher statistically
