Just as needed to keep air flow and reduce hiding spots for bugs and fungus. Out door does not need light penetration like indoor sun is so powerfull and comes from so many directions

No need to defoliate, it is not a necessary part of growing cannabis. Just remember - More leaves = more energy being made = more growth. Try and only ever remove yellow leaves, for by the time they are yellow, they have served their purpose. Besides, if your plant would not NEED those leaves, it would not grow them in the first place!

Going to duck back in here and suggest that instead of defoliation, you try some LST... that would be FAR more beneficial to your grow than just whacking leaves off for the sake of whacking leaves off! :-)

I wouldn't trim anything that isn't touching the soil... sunlight penetrates leaves very well unlike artificial lights... and since you're outdoors, there's going to be good air flow around and through the plants... leave them be, you'll get a better harvest with all that photosynthesis that those leaves afford you! Good luck!

your outside, The only leaves i would consider removing would be any leaf that hangs within 5" of the soil.
