Preventing bucket heads ?

How do you prevent seeds from getting a bucket head upon germination? I've never had it happen before this grow, but it happened on both seeds this time and I'd like to prevent it in the future.
Solved
Germination. Substrate

It just gets a little bit dry, I try to germinate into a paper towel and then place the taproot into the soil at such an angle that it will need to drag itself out itself out the soil leaving behind the empty shell in the medium. Often times if the shell is exposed to air it drys very fast. Keep a humidity dome on until you can see the 2 coteloydon then take off dome immediately. This should keep it moist enough, if you need to you can very gently pry open the partially opened shell finger nails or tweezers but I found tweezers to be unreliable. This is not ideal but I've saved many wee seeds.

Sometimes it happens sometimes it don’t, keep spraying the top and it will push it off, if not and you’re worried you can gently brake it off with tweezers but he’s a fragile operation Good luck 🌱

Hey funderdank, Usually planting the seed point down 6mm beneath the soil is enough to drop the shell and prevent J-root (this is my go to technique for raising seedlings..I dont use the paper because disturbed roots dont grow so well and curved roots can become j'ed (j-shaped) which hinders growth immensely and preventing plants from acheiving their full potential by strangling the root and often pinching off the main water line altogether. I digress (I hate J-root a large proportion of all plant issues can be tracked to the health of the roots) sometimes if confident and you have good eyes or your glasses on you can use a small pointy tool to coax the husk to split and come away..this is very risky and I still fuck it up from time to time when this happens to me..and it does sometimes I water too hard and the seed becomes dislodged and floats to the surface then sprouts..grrr lol. It an easy fix...but risky. Or you can just leave it and keep the husk moist and the plant might bust out...could be a 10day process though. I hope that helps and wish you very Sticky Buds1
