You're lucky if they are alive. Seedlings are extremely sensetive and fragile. Keep it in mind while interacting with plants, this is the period of life when they are most vulnerable. Roots do not like light and can stop developing from it in addition to the threat of mechanical damage. Buddy, your task is to create the best conditions, not to stress your plant. There is no point in checking the roots by digging them up. Any stress will slow down development. Peace and good luck!

If you seedling has sprinted and broke ground then you know its made roots.. if it has not sprouted pop another bean or germinate till it cracks its shell and you see its tap root poking out then plant. This way you have confirmation it is not a dud and will pop up in a weeks time if you did it right. Taking them out of soil at such a young age is dumb. you risk damaging it, when its so little it can not recover and if it does, its stunted and lost a lot of time repairing its self. Just plant it and wait, if nothing shows in a weeks time plant a new one. Good Luck!

I've a load of early diaries were i go into depth about doing germination and bringing you through the seedling stage. All harvested Diaries from 6-8 months ago you'll find Germ 101s and that. Your sub looks very wet. Too wet and no perlite. So you have a dense substrate. The roots need to work harder. You should start seedlings out in cubes if you're using dense subs. Add sand, pebbles, perlite. It needs something. I do see some sticks but not enuf. Anyways. If you want I go into depth about it. You'd be surprised at how often a seedling drowns. BTW. That's a no no. You don't do that no matter what. If you see growth you just nature it. Good Growing

You can do it but it’s not recommended unless absolutely necessary such as transplanting etc

It’s easy to explain. Root hairs are penetrating soil particles when the roots are growing. Pulling them out is risky. Probably you do it very carefully like a surgeon and not too late. I was trying to help my EasyBud with sprouting by gently removing the excess of soil above her, and in the end she was a beast :)
