If you live in a dry climate, you want to trim *after* drying, so that the leaves will contain moisture for the plant, in order to avoid a hay-like flavor and too little moisture to cure.
If you live in a wet climate, you want to trim *before* drying, so that the plant will dry out before mold develops.
If you can control your environment, feel free to dry and trim in whatever order you want :)
Both ways work well. Wet trimming smells a great deal more than dry trimming.
Drying a cannabis plant will smell more than when it's growing, so yes, you absolutely need a carbon filter if you want to stay unnoticed.
