if you want to reduce photosynthesis and co2 intake, it's a grand idea... fwiw, these two things are the most important factors for growth, so don't do that.
they are the lungs too, so only selective prune a leaf for a very specific and good reason. not just "to defoliate because other people defoliate"
You aren't "sending more energy" anywhere. The products of photosynthesis is highly mobile. Apical dominance is the force behind why vertically higher areas of the plant will get more resources. Removing leaves won't change that.
I've been reading that nonsense for years. Last few grows i've puprosefully left a large leaf bent and heavily shielding various bud sites. They always turn out just like every other bud site that is at the same vertical height.
overgrowth, congestion, causing condensation due to overlaping plant material, bunchd up buds physically touching each other in an extreme way can all be disease vectors. There are good reasons to remove a leaf. I see a very airy canopy and even some gaps - not much reason to remove anything on top and you are missing out on some photosynthesis as is. maybe, underneath but can't see that level.
