Irregular light schedule.

Martian
Martianstarted grow question 2mo ago
I am thinking about giving her 24h lights a few days a week and then go back to 18h. Just to give her a boost. Will this irregular light schedule harm her? My first thought is that it doesn’t matter much since she is an auto, however I know that plants love balanced environments.

18/6 is optimal........you will not achieve anything by going to 24/0.........except a bigger electricity bill and a freaked out plant. All cannabis plants, autos included, NEED "sleep" during every 24 hour cycle for a correctly functioning metabolism. A plant with a messed up metabolism will never grow to its full potential. It will not finish faster at 24/0..........a plant can only grow so much during any 24 hour period and this growth tops out at about yhe 18 hour mark......this is a scientific fact, not ghetto science! People who run 20/4 or 22/2 or 19/5 are kidding themselves, all they are doing is wasting electricity and paying higher bills for no benefit. Don't do it!

I’d stay at 18 going to 24 for a boost for a few days isn’t likely to help as much as it could hurt or even set them back having to adjust, If anything turn your light power up a bit or lower the height a bit for more intensity while on 18h 👍 happy growin

You take chances with plants herming Switching light schedules or intensity of light can cause plants to do weird things.

Firstly, your plants require a night cycle. Folks every now and then claim that 24 hour cycles are a thing but in reality the plant is stressed to the extreme. I myself have done 24 hour light cycles (not intentionally). Other than requiring a night cycle, the plant also has a rhythm. For example, you can have a set cycle then change the light schedule and still measure nutrient transport analogous to the night-time happening during what WAS the night time. AKA, yes swapping around will harm your plant. How much harm is the question.. Past that, there is no optimal day versus night time (evidenced by the plethora of longitudes and latitudes which the plant is native to). This is plant speciifc, phenotype speciifc, and can completely be changed based on DLI target.

Viel erfolg

Hi bud. This is a great question as many people often ponder this! But no, extra light will not do anything for your plant, if the daily light intake is already achieved. Same as with nutrients, the plant can only process so much. Hence more is not better. Hope this helps, even just a little.

Won't do the things your thinking of. Like numbers stated what do you think it will do, and why? DLI is a great tool. I aim for aorund 35-37 DLI in my tent and with that I know they are getting their fill and won't need any more or a "boost" You can calculate your ballpark DLI using PPFD maps from your lights manufacture. Its stupid simple. gets weird when you using LUX or another readout vs PPFD https://www.waveformlighting.com/horticulture/daily-light-integral-dli-calculator Hang height has a role to play in this so try and keep em around the advertised height in the maps. if not Closer is stronger DLI and further is weaker DLI. My lights are overkill and I need a 30" hanghieght to hit my 37DLI on 16/8 and 11/13, I don't use traditional 18/6 or 12/12 cuz of how strong they are. Its a bit annoying but still works.

The real question is what benefit do you think this provides? if you already provide 'max' dli relative to your environment, then this won't do anything useful. If it does help, it just means you need a stronger light that can properly provide light over a period of time that allows a sufficient dark cycle.
