September 13, 2023 Day 8 All 6 ladies have been transplanted in their final containers. I made sure to transplant before the roots showed. I chose the smallest Gorilla Cookies and Strawberry Gorilla for the 1 gallon containers. The other 4 are in their respective 5 gallon containers. I'll be focused on keeping the temp around 75Β° to 77Β° and 70% RH. Currently the tent is acclimating to the new humidity and light. Hopefully the temp goes up a bit more. It's currently at 74.5Β°. The grow light is about 49" above the seedlings at 80% intensity. DLI is around 20 mol/mΒ²/d. I'd put it down to 36" but then the temps in the tent drop even more with the lower intensity. That's all for today Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.5Β° RH: 71% VPD: 0.80 kPa September 14, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: These ladies are looking great! You can certainly tell the difference from the Gorilla Cookies already. They're already 4.5" tall. Very healthy and vigorous. I'm excited to see how they do. Gorilla Cookies: These are a bit sad. All three seem to not be very happy with the soil. One of them is a bit droopy. Could be too much water. Probably is. I'll leave the watering alone for the day. See what happens. Other than that, the other 2 are fine. They are absolutely showing the shorter stature of an indica dominant strain. These are around 3.5" tall. The one in the 1 gallon container is about 3" tall, but looks super strong and healthy. So of all 6 plants, one seems to be unhappy. I'll have to keep a sharp eye on that one. I'm using recycled living soil, so in theory, getting the soil wet should reactivate the micro organisms. I'll definitely be adding Advance Nutrients in the big containers. Again, the 1 gallons are water only, but still may need extra nutrients. I'm having a bit of trouble getting the temp up to 75Β°. It's getting cold here now and I still have drying plants in need of the cooler air. The humidity is pretty good. Update: I found a way to increase the heat while keeping the RH up. I have a heat pad for my back. Well, I put that in the tent with a plant saucer on top of it filled with distilled water. So far it seems that it's working fairly well. The temp has already increased to 74.5Β° and the RH is maintaining at 70% Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.4Β° RH: 69.3% VPD: 0.80 kPa September 15, 2023 I woke up to a low RH for seedlings. 62%, but the temp went up though. It's finally over 76Β° I'll have to mist the air every hour or so. These ladies look great! All 6 are beautiful and productive. The Strawberry Gorilla in the One Gallon Container is stunning. She's growing super fast. She was a bit too stretchy at first, but now she looks even better. Great colors and strong stalk. The Strawberry Gorilla strain definitely shows by her height. All 3 are tall for their age. The Gorilla Cookies are all showing their indica background. The next few weeks will be really exciting. I also ordered some recharge. I've seen too many cannabis cup winners using it to not get it. So that's on the way. Update: I had to move the light down and drop the intensity. It's helping keep the temp over 75Β° so now it's around 32" from the canopy and 50% power. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.9Β° RH: 68.6% VPD: 0.85 kPa September 16, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: These ladies are doing fantastic! Not too stretchy, but definitely showing the Sativa side of things. Especially compared to the Gorilla Cookies strain. Very healthy and vibrant. They are also pretty vigorous and starting to grow leaves and fast. They are nearly identical. Even the one in the 1 gallon container is just as vigorous as the other 2. Gorilla Cookies: These ladies are showing excellent signs of vigor and health. There was one that was a bit droopy for a day or 2, but she bounced back and is just as healthy as the others. There is a bit of yellowing on the outer edges of the leaves, but I think that was just the transition from plug to soil. They look fine now. One Gallon Ladies: These 2 are going to be put in the other tent in a few days. I just have to wait for the plants in there to finish drying out. It's should only be 3 days. Maybe 4. Either way, these plants will be on their own soon and hopefully by next week. I have 4 days left. That should be perfect. As I said before, these are the smallest of the group. But they aren't small at all. They were just the smallest. The Strawberry Gorilla is actually quite large. A good 4 to 5 inches tall. The Gorilla Cookies is about 3.5" tall as well. Nothing small about them at all. Development: They all have their first set of 3 finger fan leaves growing strong. The single finger true leaves are stretching out nicely. All 6 ladies got about 100 ml of water around the rim of the nursery bags. Just to keep them soaked in and the soil from drying around them. Depending on how these containers feel, I may start my bottom feeding in the next couple days. Just a gallon each to get the medium to a moist level. Currently the soil is at 25% saturation and only in the top 5 inches. Adding the gallon from the bottom will prep the roots to start growing down and out very quickly. So I may add the water in the next few days. Maybe a 2 days. They also got a pretty hefty misting. The RH is a bit low for these ladies. It's around 60%. And I would much rather see 70% at this stage. So far it's working. A bit of extra work until my new humidifier comes later today. Update: my humidifier came in today. Grow tent is now 80% RH. Very happy for this. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.6Β° RH: 66.7% VPD: 0.96 kPa September 17, 2023 Whoops. I left the humidifier on last night. Woke up to 90% humidity and 66Β° All ladies got a bit of water around their containers. Just to add a bit of moisture to the outer soil. I'll also be activating the bottom feed system in a few days I think. It should take a few days for the soil moisture to level out. This soil likes to hang out around 50% saturation. So far I haven't had a single problem with it and I don't believe I will have a problem. I could be a bit too dry maybe. Silly concept, but I am using 5 gallon containers and have not actually watered the whole thing yet. Not with the current seedlings. It would be too much water I think. Strawberry Gorilla: These ladies look pretty good. The cotyledons have a bit of brown on 2 of them. I'm wondering if my soil is a bit light on nutrients. I'll add some grow nutes tomorrow in a very small dose. I feel like brown dying cotyledons means I have a nutrient deficiency. However, all 3 are growing quite nicely. Gorilla Cookies: These ladies look pretty good as well. The one is still having a bit of an issue. So I'm leaving it alone. I did give a bit of the outside of the container water to start the full watering process. Anyway, one of these ladies looks absolutely fantastic. Great reach, beautiful colors and strong. The other 2 are also strong looking, but not as good. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.0Β° RH: 76.7% VPD: 0.64 kPa September 18, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Not much to report. Basically same thing as yesterday. Growing strong and tall. Gorilla Cookies: Everything looks good. That one plant seems to be recovering. The other one, however, looks great! Wonderful color and super strong looking. One Gallon Ladies: These 2 are doing just fine. Nothing to report. Just a couple healthy plants waiting for their own tent. All ladies got outer pot waterings today. Just the outer rims. This should help with root spread and level soil moisture. I think I need to do a bit more. The containers are barely wet. Just the top layer. I'm definitely starting the bottom feed system at the start of the week. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.7Β° RH: 70.0% VPD: 0.84 kPa September 19, 2023 This is the last day of the late seedling stage. We move right into early veg tomorrow and so begins the Vegetative stage of growth for these ladies. Today, the Dry tent freed up. So now my One Gallon Ladies are in it. 2x2x4.5 Mars Hydro Grow System. Mars Hydro TS 600 grow light. One 6" circulating fan and one 4" inline fan. I'm very happy with this, now there's a good amount of space for everyone in both tents. I've created a new Grow Diary for the 2 One Gallon Ladies. (Overflow Strawberry Gorilla/Cookies) Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.0Β° RH: 65.6% VPD: 1.04 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

How much if any foliage or stray branches should I remove from the bottom of this plant? She's super healthy so I don't think it will be an issue with stress, but I don't want any undue stress. Should I just leave it? I'd like to avoid popcorn buds all together.

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
