September 27, 2023 Day 22 This week we start training. I started yesterday, but this is the time to get it going. Today I made adjustments on each plant. This week is the start of each individual plant getting pics. So we can see the progress of each plant throughout the grow. I've also added a liter top feed with just recharge in it to each plant. Just to get it started in the soil. I'll be using that once a week if not later. It all depends on how quickly they soak up the reservoir. Nutrients will be every other watering. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 looks fantastic. She took perfectly well to the training and almost immediately stood right back up. The adjustment here was a slight tweak in the anchor and a small tie down adjustment. Overall, she is looking fantastic. The nodes are starting to spread a bit. I'm hoping for more. I like to work with the right amount of space. Number 2 is just as nice as number 1, but her leaves are slightly smaller, indicating she may be a day behind in size. Her adjustment was just to slightly pull the tie down even more. Very happy healthy plant. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 looks fantastic. She has beautiful full and lush leaves. However, like Strawberry Gorilla 2, she isn't quite as big as her number 2 counter part. Still a very healthy and happy plant. Number 2 on the other hand is the largest amongst the 4. Funny because she started a bit unhappy with watering I think. Who knew. Lol. Anyway, she's at the same stage as Gorilla Cookies 1, but just bigger. Now that I think of it, she's the largest most developed of all the plants. Super broad leaves, strong thick stem, side branches coming along quite nicely. All of the plants are at the exact same stage. 4 nodes each. So everything is absolutely fine. I'm very happy with myself now. I've increased the light intensity from 50% to 60%. DLI: 26 mol/mΒ²/d should be perfect for this week. I may have to raise the light a bit to keep up with the growth. By the end of the flowering stretch, I want to have 30" plants filling up the canopy, with a light distance of minimum 18". Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.1Β° RH: 68.8% VPD: 0.88 kPa September 28, 2023 I forgot to increase the nutrients yesterday, so I did it today. However. I haven't watered yet. The reservoirs still have a good 1/4 gallon left. I'll refill when the water is near gone. I'll also be washing the reservoirs out next week. There's no build up currently. Strawberry Gorilla: These ladies look absolutely fantastic. One is definitely more de developed than two, but both are moving along swimmingly. They don't quite yet need any adjustments to the tie down. Probably tomorrow for both. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are amazing. Two is bigger than one, but not by much and I can only assume they will be the same height when they are all done stretching. So that's that. The leaves on Two are huge and is developing 7 fingers now. One is I think doing the same. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.3Β° RH: 65.2% VPD: 1.03 kPa September 29, 2023 Not much to report today. Everyone is looking beautiful. Wonderful colors, branching is looking great. Leaves are full. I only filled the reservoir for Strawberry Gorilla 1 as it was the only one empty. Maybe a thirstier plant? Either way, 1 gallon of water. Strawberry Gorilla: Both of these ladies are looking fantastic. They have been growing at a nice steady pace. Somewhat fast and of course will only get faster as time goes by. No adjustments needed today. I'll wait to start pulling branches down unless the tops get strong enough to hold them level. Then I'll do another adjustment. Gorilla Cookies: These ladies are fantastic looking. Number 2 is by far the most healthy of the bunch, or well, the most robust. Very nice growth. No new adjustments today. I will wait like the rest to train branches and the stronger tops. I'd like to note that the environment is near perfect in my opinion. Day temp is 76Β° while night temps are 69Β°. I can't complain there. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.2Β° RH: 66% VPD: 1.01 kPa September 30, 2023 All plants received adjustments to their tie downs today. The branches aren't quite long enough to start training. They are getting there. I expect some crazy growth in the next few days. Until at least week 2 of flower. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking super nice. I feel like they are just cruising along building up all that energy to explode with growth. Both are looking good. They grew about an inch last night which was pulled down today. Mostly on number 1. Number 2 already had an adjustment yesterday. Something I am noticing though is the slower growth compared to the one in my overflow tent. That one was FIMed and is bigger than these 2. Strange. I wonder if that's because the whole ant has to adjust for the bend? All branches are reaching now. That being said, I'm not worried at all. I've grown some pretty big plants with plants this size. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 look great! Number 2 is still bigger than number 1, but both at the exact same stage. Great colors 7 fingered leaves are coming out. I think that's a good thing? Anyway, super healthy. The overflow tent one is also the same size as number 1. It's looking like this is how they are supposed to grow. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.1Β° RH: 69.7% VPD: 0.91 kPa October 1, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: I didn't make any adjustments today. Instead I left them alone. Number 2 needed a reservoir refill of plain water. It's interesting how far off they are from each other. I was thinking I should top number 2 off as well and get them even again. Maybe I will do that. Yes, I will do that. Gorilla Cookies: These two are looking fantastic. I also left them alone and neither of them needed any watering. Number 2 looks like she will need a top off in the next day or 2. I may do the same as the Strawberry Gorilla and top both off and level them out. Then all four plants will be level with their water intake. Update: I ended up topping off all 4 reservoirs. It made sense. They all needed the top off, they actually needed more water than I expected. I think I'll let the soil dry up a bit after this reservoir. Let the roots dig deeper into the container. So far I've used this bottom feed system for a couple grows and it works wonders. Is it hydro or regular watering? I think hydro. There's a constant supply of water to the bottom of the container. I dunno. Would it be a hybrid technique? Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.5Β° RH: 68.8% VPD: 0.89 kPa (A bit too humid to be honest. I'd like to see around 62% RH) October 2, 2023 It's super humid today, so the Grow System is a bit high. Temps are fine, but RH is around 70%. I also have concerns about the growth speed of these ladies. In my overflow tent, I have the last 2 of the 6 plants for this grow. Those are in 1 gallon fabric containers, under a 100 watt full spectrum LED. So hopefully to solve this, I decided to match this light DLI with the one in the small tent. Obviously something is being done differently in there. They have all had the same amount of nutrients. Although I'm starting to think these ladies may need a nutrient top feeding to get the soil where I think it needs to be. I'll do that tomorrow I think. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking wonderful. As stated above, they are a bit slower to grow than the one in the overflow tent. Hopefully I'm right and the light intensity needed to be increased. Anyway, the branches are too small to train yet, so I'm going to be waiting. Number 2 is still a bit larger than number 2, but not by much. Colors are a tiny bit light. I'd like to see a richer green. Maybe they need more nutrients. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 look great as well. Colors are definitely a little light for my tastes. Needing more nutrients? Number 1 is the smaller of the two. Not by much, but smaller. And when I mean smaller, I don't mean just in height, I mean in general. The leaves are smaller, the stems are the same, but shorter. They seems to be at the same pace in growth though. Interesting. I'll keep an eye on them and see what the increased light intensity does. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.3Β° RH: 70% VPD: 0.86 kPa October 3, 2023 All ladies were trained down today. Level canopies and happy plants. They are definitely taking off as well. No watering today. I'll top water tomorrow. Not much but enough to get the nutrients into the soil. Strawberry Gorilla: These two are looking quite good. Number 2 is a bit smaller and training wasn't really an option. I did make a couple adjustments and pulled down a branch or 2. I also tied down the large leaves to keep them out of the way of the branches. I'll also be pruning the lowest nodes. None of them are catching up, so they gotta go. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are looking great. Number 1 is smaller, but still quite trainable. So branches and fan leaves were pulled down and adjusted for a wider plant. They are also already leaning over to the edge of the containers. So I'm training them out to cover the rest of the edge of the whole container. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.9Β° RH: 64.2% VPD: 1.06 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
