October 4, 2023 Day 29 This week is a focus on the pre-flower stretch and training these ladies down to where I want them. I won't be going too crazy, but I want them trained enough to cover the whole container surface at least. My goal is to give each plant a couple inches of space between them. They also got a small top water today. Just adding more nutrients to the top for the soil to absorb. This should be around the time that they will be thirsty. Pre-flower is upon us and the stretch is already starting. No need for a bottom feed. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 look great. Training looks good, leaf color is quite nice. Number 2 is still a bit smaller than the other, but nothing too different. They are the same height number 2 having the shorter branches. Gorilla Cookies: These two have great structures. Beautiful ribcage look with their training. Number 2 is the bigger of the 2. She is 7" vs the rest of the plants that are all 6.5" happily, I'm keeping them all the same height. Hopefully it doesn't get away from me in the end. A perfectly level canopy would be amazing. Should I SCROG? Maybe not? I'll have to see how much I need to manage. I may use the net for support if I have to, but these plants harden off pretty quickly, so I don't expect to have too much trouble. I'll still be prepared for the height. Grow System Environment: Temp: 77.8Β° RH: 67.2% VPD: 1.05 kPa October 5, 2023 I decided to rotate the plants one quarter turn. Now the plants are facing the corners of the tent. So the lower branches start growing around the containers. No water needed today. I'll keep an eye on them for watering though. The bottom feed system looks really good. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 look great. Some small adjustments were made to the tie downs. Not much else to report. They are super healthy and looking wonderful. I may need to defoliate in a bit. I am guessing a week at the most. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are absolutely beautiful. They need nothing. A couple of adjustments and that's it. Colors are super lush and I think the nutrients are starting to work their magic. They have wonderful ribcage structures. Lots of open space and the training is certainly keeping up. I'll train for the next 3 weeks I think and then let them just go. I still may need a scrog net. But we shall see. Grow System Environment: Temp: 78.4Β° RH: 66.4% VPD: 1.09 kPa October 6, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 got a decent amount of training today. Number 1 has longer branches and is now reaching pretty fast. She looks fantastic and was pulled down into a nice ribcage structure. Number 2 has shorter branches but they seem to be a bit stiffer. Maybe slightly slower than her sister plant. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 got some pretty heavy LST today. All of her branches were adjusted and pulled down level. She looks great! Number 2 also got a pretty hefty training. She's slightly bigger and has broader leaves, so she needed quite a bit of finesse to ensure all of the branches were exposed. All of the main fan leaves are either tucked or tied down. Beautiful plant. Update: So the overflow tent is showing better results than this one. I know it's because the containers are smaller, but the light was also brighter in the overflow tent. So I dropped the light to around 25" and increased the Intensity to 80% and landing on a DLI of 34 mol/mΒ²/d. I think they are both light hungry strains. So far no signs of stress. I'll keep an eye for the rest of the day into tomorrow to make sure they are not suffering. Grow System Environment: Temp: 78.3Β° RH: 65.8% VPD: 1.11 kPa October 7, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Both ladies got some adjustments and a couple other branches pulled down. They also got a small top feed as well today. Just a bit to wet the soil around the base of the plants. I've also discovered that I should have used more soil to keep the plants from pulling themselves out. I used a paint stick to reinforce the tie down to hold the stem straight. They may need a selective defoliation in the next couple of days. Gorilla Cookies: I'm running into an issue. I am definitely missing a nutrient. They have some sort of deficiency. The leaves are lighter than they should be and some of them on number 2 are starting to get this pale look. Spotted, but not spotted. Like losing life. I'll definitely be asking about this. It's just the 2 in this tent. The one in the overflow tent is perfectly fine. Anyway, they are still growing plenty well. Number 2 is a bit droopy too. Grow System Environment: Temp: 77.1Β° RH: 65.1% VPD: 1.10 kPa October 8, 2023 No watering for today. All ladies look nice and healthy. I have the environment dialed in perfectly. I think. High 70sΒ° and low 60s% RH. These ladies have about 2 to 3 weeks left of stretch. I'm guessing more on the 2 week side, but it should be impressive. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking pretty good. Their canopies are pretty level. Lots of auxiliary branches popping up. Both of them got slight adjustments to their tops to help side branching. I did pull down 2 of the top branches that were finally long enough to bend. In the next couple days I'll be able to start pulling down the auxiliary branches. Although, I'm starting to think I want these 2 to start growing vertically so I can cover the whole container circumference. By the end of the stretch, I'm hoping for a full tent lich with bug leaves and massive bud sites. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are still lighter colored than the Strawberry Gorillas. Number 2 still has the spots. I think it's stopping though. I'll run a top feed in a few days when the reservoirs are nearly empty. Number 2 also got a couple of the big fan leaves cut off. The few were blocking precious space for branches to grow. So I cut 3 of the upper main stem leaves. It helped a bit. I don't want to cut much at all. I'll wait until the stretch is more underway. Maybe a week or so. Maybe not. If they stretch enough, they may space out their nodes and I won't have to worry too much about air flow and light penetration. Both ladies got their tops pulled back down to level out the canopy. It may take the week to level out completely. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.7Β° RH: 63.5% VPD: 1.09 kPa October 9, 2023 All plants will be getting reservoir refills tomorrow. Strawberry Gorilla 1 is just about empty. And the rest are right behind it. They are all the same height for now. I've been doing a great job at keeping them short for the moment. But I think I'll let them take off for a week or so before really getting the branches where I want them. Maybe just a few days. Strawberry Gorilla: These two are starting tog get bushy. Both were rotated into the light. The canopies are nice and level, so I figured they were going to do as well as they can now, so the main top of each plant was rotated facing the center of the tent. I made no adjustments today. I'd like to let some of the auxiliary branches grow more before I continue training. So probably tomorrow. Number 1 had a single leaf removed that was just in the way and causing issues. Gorilla Cookies: These two are nearly identical now. Both have those light leaves but it seems they are starting to darken up now that they are getting more nutrients. Number 1 needed no training. Everything is level and growing nice and even. Number 2 had 1 leaf snipped today that was in the way and bothersome. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.1Β° RH: 63.5% VPD: 1.10 kPa October 10, 2023 This is the end of week 4. As we move into week 5, I've increased the light intensity to 80% power. I also lowered the light a bit. I think I did this yesterday. Anyway, the DLI is just under 40 mol/mΒ²/d. From what I read, DLI should be around 40 at week 5. So that's that. The canopy is pretty level still. However all but one of the Strawberry Gorillas is lopsided to one side of the container. Honestly, I haven't dealt with this issue before. I'm not exactly sure what I did, but all of the stems are super low and just below a 45Β° angle. The issue is that I have to pull all the branches toward the back of the plants to cover the open space. It worked really well with Strawberry Gorilla 1. The other 3 don't seem to be taking to it, at least not as quickly. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is looking fantastic. She had a couple leaves pulled off today to open up some branches. Her structure is nearly perfect with a completely level canopy. Number 2 is looking good as well. Great leaf color. Lush and large. She had a couple leaves removed as well today. As said earlier, her structure is not exactly what I'm looking for. Hopefully I can manage to pull it off. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is looking great! She is starting to fill the container out with a lot of help. She had a leaf cut for a bunch of new growth. Leaves are lush and a beautiful green. A little pale, but I think it's the strain. If it's a deficiency, tomorrow's watering with full nutrients should do the trick. Number 2 accidentally got topped today. I was trying to press down on the top to level things out as well as try to slightly pull the top back in and I guess the stem was too rigid. So now I have a late topping on my hands and a most likely stunted plant. The one and only advantage is that this was the worst of the 4 with her lopsided issue. So when she starts growing again, she will most certainly fill out the container. The yellowing is still going on. I'm hoping the next watering will help her bounce back. I started to change the positioning of the plants to avoid overcrowding and get the most light contact each plant can get. It's like a puzzle. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.1Β° RH: 59.3% VPD: 1.24 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

DoughHeadanswered grow question 6 months ago
The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
