September 5, 2023 Welcome to a new grow diary. This grow will be with 420 Fast Buds Gorilla Cookies and Strawberry Gorilla Autoflowers. I'll be running 2 of each in my AC Infinity 3x3 Automated Grow System. Currently I have 3 of each soaking in shot glasses for the night and then into root riot plugs tomorrow afternoon. The best 2 of each to sprout will be kept. The other 2 of each, if in good shape will be planted in 3 gallon fabric containers and thrown in the dry tent as an alternative to tossing them. Only if they are good though. I'll be using the AC Infinity Germination System with kinda crappy cheapo led strip lights. I'll leave those in the plugs until they stand up and move the plugs into a AC Infinity 1/4 gal fabric nursery bags for a few days. The goal is to keep the dome on for hopefully a week before I need to plant the bags in AC Infinity 5.4 Gallon Fabric Grow Pots. Ultimately I plan on having these plants in all of their final containers before the roots break out. So there isn't any interruption in growth. I may slash the bottoms of the nursery bags to let the tap roots grow freely down to the bottom of the pots. This grow will be the AC Infinity Bottom Feed Wicking System... As you can see, nearly everything I use is AC Infinity. Not a sponsor. Be cool if they were though. I'll be using Sohum Living soil. I'm recycling it and offsetting the nutrients with Advanced Nutrients Micro Grow Bloom Base. And bloom nutrients for the flowering stage. I'll be using LST and Defoliation for training techniques. I might top one of the Strawberry Gorilla plants for a first time test to see how it works. Hopefully I'll be successful. I also may employ the use of my trellis net for the first time as well. We shall see. I'd like to see 36" tall plants this round with 12" deep colas. As for my Yield Goal, I'd like to see 1.25 lbs dried and trimmed. It's a tall order, but I feel like these strains can do it. That's all for today. Thanks for visiting. Update: all 6 seeds sunk to the bottom in 6 hours. They have now been moved to root riot plugs and are sitting the Germination System, lights out, heat mat on and water filled on the bottom to keep humidity up. I've also used a couple of plastic dooders to keep the plugs above the water so they don't absorb too much. September 6, 2023 All ladies are sitting happily in the dome for now. None have broken surface yet, but I expect them to anytime. Today or tomorrow. They sunk rather quickly in my opinion, but I feel like that's a good thing. They should sprout in the next day or 2 if they germinated. It's nice and humid in the dome, I'll be monitoring it when they need the light. For now it's a bit of heat and a lot of moisture. That's it for today. Nothing much else to talk about. September 7, 2023 Today is the first day of these ladies lives. So far I can see 3 breaking the surface. 2 Strawberry Gorilla and 1 of the Gorilla Cookies. That's so far though. I'll check later this afternoon to see if there's any significant progress. Then I'll take pictures of there's anything to photograph. Quick Update: 2 of each strain have popped now and the last 2 are close behind. September 8, 2023 We have 6 sprouts now! All 6 look perfectly healthy. One of the Strawberry Gorilla seeds has helmet head. I'll leave it for the day and see if it comes off on its own. I'll remove it tonight if need be. Lights are on now and these ladies are going to grow grow grow. I'll find out how they do on the next week or so. I might be keeping all 6. They all look great so far. What's really cool, at least to me, is how each seed in the strain is identical. Strawberry Gorilla is a tiny bit taller. I think it's just the sativa. September 9, 2023 Today is wonderful for all 6 ladies. They are all perfectly identical to each strain. Wonderful sight to see. Anyway, I'll most likely be transplanting all of the ladies into 1/4 gallon nursery bags until the main tent frees up. Or I'll have to switch stuff around from the main tent to the dry tent. I have 3 plants drying into the main tent. They won't fit in the dry tent. But I could put the dome in the dry tent for now and allow them to grow there for the time being. The goal is to not expose the roots at all. At least that's the goal. It's nice and humid in the dome. Temps are perfect and it shows by the seedlings. Wonderful. Update: I have planted all 6 seedlings in nursery bags and back in the Germination System with the extension on. I'm using a 50/50 mix of Sohum Living Soil and Coast of Maine Seedling Starter Soil. Lighting seems ideal. I'm a bit worried about the humidity. It may end up being too low without any extra moisture. Maybe I'll spend the next couple hours adding a bit of water at a time until each one has 250 ml. That should do just fine. I decided to pour 250 ml of water in the drip tray. The heat mat should warm up the nursery bags and produce enough humidity. Should work. I might have to refill it, but oh well. September 10, 2023 All 6 plants look immaculate. Growing perfectly. Nice healthy stems. Growing at a rapid pace. They will all be moved to their final containers when the first set of true leaves finishes. As they are all nearly identical, I'm going to take the 3rd of each strain and put them in the small tent in the 1 gallon containers. I may do a second diary for those as they will have a completely different setup. September 11, 2023 These ladies are super healthy. Strong stems, true leaves coming in. Tall and strong. I think these are the best seedlings I've had so far in my year and a half of growing. Very happy. These ladies look like they will be ready for their final pots in a few days. If I'm correct, they will stop growing vertically for now and will start to spread their new leaves out. Let's hope those roots stay in the nursery bags for the next 3 days. September 12, 2023 All the plants are starting to show their first set of finger leaves. I'll most likely be transplanting tomorrow. One of the Gorilla Cookies is a bit shorter than the others, but still completely on point with all the other plants. No water needed. The dome is keeping everything nice and humid and the soil moist. Perfect. I already have the Grow tent prepped for these ladies. The 2 one gallon containers are currently in the Main Tent. I think I can keep them in there for a bit while the dry tent is occupied for another week or so. I'll be using a couple deep 12" saucers with cotton wicks. Each saucer holds around a gallon of water. So each of the plants will have a gallon of water in their reservoirs. This will be a plain water grow. No nutrients unless needed. The 4 ladies in the main tent will be in 5 gallon containers and will be using the AC Infinity Bottom Feed Wicking System. They each hold a gallon of water and will be fed every other reservoir refill. From what I understand, bottom feed systems, as they are technically "hydroponics", always need water in the reservoir. So I'll do my best to keep them topped up. I'll also be cleaning the reservoirs out every other week. Maybe every week. Quick Update: I decided to prep the containers today. So all of them now have the soil they need to take in the transplants. I have a 5 gallon bucket half full with the Coast of Maine/ Sohum soil mix. I'll be using that to top off the containers after the transplant.

Did I over water this plant? The other 5 are perfectly fine. Just this one. I may have over watered during the transplant. I'm not sure. Just plain distilled water. Same soil across the board for all plants. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest ๐Ÿ™ please and thank you ๐Ÿ˜Š

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

Why are they growing slowly? I have 6 plants total. 4 in this tent and 2 in another smaller tent. The ones in the smaller tent are in 1 gallon fabric containers and get the same bottom feed wick system as the 5 gallon ones in this tent. Why are the 1 gallon bigger? Thanks!

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie ๐Ÿ˜ƒ ๐Ÿ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

Prilyfe13commentedweek 6a year ago
So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
