October 25, 2023 Day 50 Now that Gorilla is 1 is stretching, this week will focus strictly on growth and keeping the tent in order. With the larger plants, I need to move things around. I didn't raise the light though. The DLI is high for both Gorilla Cookies. It's around 46 mol/mΒ²/d. Because the Strawberry Gorillas are significantly shorter now, they are at a DLI of 39. I also have a small problem. The lower canopy fan won't fit under the plants. Their branches are too low to the pots and they just aren't tall enough. So I have to leave it above the canopy. It's lower than the main oscillating fan, but not really penetrating the tops. Strawberry Gorilla: Internodal spacing is really short for this strain that I've seen so far. Number 1 looks pretty good now. Still really short. Around 15" tall. She may grow some more. I hope she does at least. Her leaves are a wonderful color and the buds are stacking nicely. Super healthy plant. I pulled a couple leaves off her today. Just a couple. Number 2 is still the smallest of the group. About 14" tall. But her stacks are really nice. I hope she pops up a bit. I'd like to see at least 18". I popped a couple more leaves off her today. Just a couple as well. Gorilla Cookies: This strain is just taller than Strawberry Gorilla. At least that's what it looks like. They are both super healthy and happy. Number 1 has super tall stacks now. Her internodal spacing is nice as well. Maybe 2 inches. Leaf coverage is near perfect. However, I did end up pulling a bunch of leaves and pruned some of the branches that just weren't going to make it. She is the tallest so far at 19" tall. Very happy plant. Number 2 is the star of this week. While all the other plants are already in flower, this one is just starting to stretch in the pre-flower stage. But the stretch is the part that makes her the star. This lady is 18" tall but only just started stretching. So I moved her to the back of the tent so I can still access all 4 plants. I can definitely say she will be a super big plant. Her leaves are stunning and a lush green with her tops being a brighter light green. I'm very excited for this plant. She was a bit light today as well. I'm wondering if the wick system is struggling a bit. I wonder if I add more wicks, will it start back up in force. Anyway, to kickstart her back up, I dunked the container in the reservoir and let it absorb the nutrient rich water. If it works, I'll need to refill the reservoir tomorrow and will end up topping off the rest just to keep everything even. Anyway, if she grows like the Zkittlez in my last grow, I may have a nice 3 ft. plant on my hands. It's a different strain, but it's still a cannabis plant and it shows how big she will be. Unless she suddenly stops growing, but I doubt it. However, these are supposed to be massive plants anyway. Either way, I'm expecting one of the best autoflowers in the world to be better than my last grow. Especially considering how absolutely healthy she is. The Zkittlez yielded over 6.5 oz, so I can't wait to see what this one yields. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.5Β° RH: 59.5% VPD: 1.19 kPa October 26, 2023 I'm going to ask a question today about cleaning up the under canopy for Gorilla Cookies 2. She's an extremely healthy plant, so I don't want to waste energy on popcorn buds. Watering is not needed today. Everyone has about a half reservoir left. It's also raining today so humidity is kinda high. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are still small. They seem to be growing a bit, but not fast nor are they all that vigorous. However, both of them have some really nice stacks going on and beautiful bud formations. They both look super healthy so I don't understand the stunting or whatever it is. Could it be the nutrients? I am missing some based on what advanced nutrients has for a schedule. I thought originally it was the used soil, but it's living soil, so there shouldn't be Anything to worry about. But there's nothing to worry about with that soil. The Gorilla Cookies are both beautiful and bigger, so the soils is fine. I don't think it's the light, but AC Infinity is sending me a new one to see if that's the issue. I don't think that's the issue, but who knows. Number 1 has some wonderful tops and beautiful buds. She's only about 15" tall, but still super healthy. Her roots are covering the bottom of the container, so I know she has a good root mass. Number 2 is still the hot mess I accidentally made her to be. In my defense, she didn't grow enough to get a good training. The weird part of this is that there was absolutely zero damage done to this plant, so she should have been able to grow freely without any high stress. Unless her LST was stressful, I don't understand. Her roots are starting to show through the bottom of the container, but not as much as Number 1. That at least matches with the size of the plant. However, I can't praise how nice these colas are turning out to be. I took some of the lower bud sites and branches off as well as a selective defoliation on both plants. It was definitely time to clear some of the nonsense away. I could have done a bit more, but these two are too small already. I don't want to stress them too much. I don't know really. I might go ahead and ask FastBuds for some insight. If anyone is reading this, I'd love to read your thoughts. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are fantastic. No watering needed today at all. I did pull some lower branches and leaves out today. Number 1 has some fantastic stacks! Internodal spacing stretched out enough that I don't need to do any defoliating. So I took just a couple leaves off and 2 auxiliary branches that just weren't going to make it. Her roots are completely covering the bottom of the container and it's showing. She's still stretching and looking great! Number 2 is my golden child. She is stretching and spreading out more and more. Roots are still coming through and that's wonderful. I am going to ask about clearing some of the lower foliage out. I'm not sure exactly where to stop and I don't want any undue stress. She's already absolutely amazing. Super healthy, so I don't think it will cause any real stress, but I'm worried about stunting her. Any suggestions? Obviously, check the pics to see what I should or shouldn't be doing. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.4Β° RH: 61.5% VPD: 1.13 kPa October 27, 2023 Not a lot going on today. Mostly letting these ladies grow on their own for now. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking super healthy. I guess I will have to accept the fact that these two are just small. They have plenty of bud sites though, so I may end up with a pretty decent yield anyway. Number 1 had bit of a top feed today. Just about a liter. The container was feeling a little light. I removed 2 leaves and released 2 branches from their tie downs. Number 2 is perfectly fine with water. She will be needing a reservoir top off tomorrow I think. As well as the other plants in the tent. Gorilla Cookies: These two are just fantastic. Number 1 doesn't need anything yet. She will need a top off tomorrow, but that's about it. I took 2 leaves off her as well. Number 2 is a beast. I took off a couple lower branches that just weren't going to make it. I also took a couple leaves. She got a half gallon top feed today. I think I may have to really keep an eye on this one for watering. Especially when she hits actual flowering. Speaking of flowering, this plant is in week 7 of veg. I don't really know what to make of that. I'm not complaining, but wonder why when all the rest hit flower at week 4 and 5. So I'm not exactly sure what to do about it when harvest time comes along. I use my tents as drying rooms. If this one is still weeks away from harvest, I may have to stagger harvests. Technically because they are in smaller containers, the plants in the overflow tent can be harvested the earliest I think. Once those are dry, I might be able to harvest the other 3 in this tent and cut them up for drying in the overflow tent. Once this lady is done, I can move everything over to the main tent and finish up from there. Because the plants in this grow aren't going to be 34" tall, I can definitely layer them in the drying tent with a second drying chandelier. Or I can use my AC Infinity drying rack. Or both. But if things go as I think they will, staggering will be the best option. I have a feeling that the Strawberry Gorillas will be done before the Gorilla Cookies. And those are small so there is hope that all the drying will be done correctly. Oh, I should also mention that both Strawberry Gorillas have some impressive trichome production. Gorilla Cookies is a little bit behind so I'm not seeing any yet. Not big deal. Just thought I should mention the trichomes. So sticky. And sweet smelling. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.8Β° RH: 65.4 % VPD: 1.07 kPa October 28, 2023 All but Strawberry Gorilla 2 got waterings today. Half gallon of top feed and the other half to refill the reservoirs. Not much else to say today. They all look great. Super healthy and strong. Strawberry Gorilla: Both ladies were finally raised up about two inches today. It's not much, but it's the best I can do for now. I noticed today that the new growth that's coming up doesn't have anymore 3 finger fan leaves. Just 5 finger ones. Could this be an issue with the transition to flower? Would that be a nutrient screw up? Too much or too little of something? Maybe a lighting issue? But I don't see how so. Anyway, I will have to figure this out for the next grow. Still a concern. Number 1 had a couple leaves popped off and was readjusted to make room for the lower canopy fan. Looking good now. Number 2 was also readjusted to make room for Number 1. Nothing else to really say today. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 looks great! She has massive stacks now and is still growing a bit. The bud production is absolutely amazing. I really can't wait to see how they end up when they swell and start to mature. Number 2 is insane! She grew another 2 inches last night. Her leaves are huge and lush. Still 7 finger leaves and tons of tops coming up. She is definitely preparing to grow some massive colas. Seriously cannot wait to see how tall she is after the stretch. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.1Β° RH: 65.2% VPD: 1.04 kPa October 29, 2023 Nothing to do today except take pictures and make observations. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is forming tight stacks and tons of bud sites. The whole plant is covered. I hope this will be a giant weed bud for a plant. Number 2 is similar, but not as big. Lots and lots of bud sites and tight stacks. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is looking fantastic. She has definitely stopped stretching and is now building those buds up. Internodal spacing is longer than that of the Strawberry Gorillas, but there's definitely no shortage of stacks and buds. Number 2 is still stretching and still seems to be in very early pre-flower if not still in Veg. I highly doubt this is an accidental FF version, but if it is, I think I have a plan. Instead of trying to let it grow super big, I'll let it stretch as much as she wants then pull branches and leaves and do some topping to keep her shortish but still bushy. I would have to let her go until the other plants are finished up, but again, I don't think it's a FF. Just a super late bloomer. Nearly 8 weeks in veg. Very strange indeed. Anyway, I found a few 8 finger fan leaves today. She is super healthy it's just crazy. The best part is, she hasn't even really moved into the flowering stretch. This is just preparing for what's to come. Massive colas. Hopefully there will be so much bud, I have to pull a ton of leaves off to make space. This plant has it all. Perfect leaf color. Lush and green. Beautiful tops coming up with even more perfect leaves. Roots are all over the place now. I finally learned what I must do with the bottom feed system. Keep it topped off and make sure to lift the plants every day or two so the roots don't bind up in the wicks. Update: I decided to selective defoliate both Strawberry Gorillas and Gorilla Cookies Number 1. I couldn't help it. They just looked like they needed it. Gorilla Cookies Number 2 was left completely alone. She also has some really nice 8 finger fan leaves. Amazing! Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.2Β° RH: 60.3% VPD: 1.15 kPa October 30, 2023 Not much going on. More of a watch and observe day. I might refill the reservoirs today. It all depends on how full they are by the afternoon. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is doing quite well. She has tons of bud sites throughout the whole plant. As she is short, the light should be able to penetrate through the bottom, which it seems to be doing so. Great leaf color and coverage now. Beautiful praying happening as well. No stress, just a happy plant overall. Number 2 is also doing quite well for such a small plant. However she has 2 shoots that are starting to tower over the rest of the canopy and those are in full swing veg and not really flower. Bright green young leaves and whatnot. Looks good, but I'm confused as to why so late in the flowering stage? If it all that late. Anyway, there's that. It may help with a pretty good final yield. Not only does she have new shoots popping up, the rest of the plant is covered in buds. Top to bottom. Again, as Number 1, she is small with a very short canopy. So technically, the light should penetrate all the way through. Especially with the leaf coverage she has going on. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 has some fantastic colas and stacks going on. Internodal spacing is right on point and leaf coverage is spot on. She needs absolutely nothing for a while. If not at all. Just observe and water. The bottom feed system is working wonders with this one. Number 2 on the other hand seems to be off now. I can't get her to take in enough water to cover the whole root system. Looks like I will have to add a couple more wicks. To make a square as well as an X. I'll try that later today I think. I need to do something. She is already drying out from the top feeding the other day. Moisture meter from yesterday was at 35% today it's at 30% and we started at 45% when I fed her. So 3 days to drink a half gallon as well as the near gallon she took from the reservoir. Its not that she isn't drinking, it's that the wick system isn't powerful enough to keep up the moisture level. Anyway, she grew a good 2 inches last night as well as brought more tops above the canopy. She is seriously shaping up to be a beautiful plant. All I need are the colors and she will be stunning. Update: I ended up giving each reservoir a refill and added a 3/4 gallon top feed. I also moved my moisture meter. Much better reading. I also added the extra wicks to see how that does. I'll check back tomorrow. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.1Β° RH: 57.7% VPD: 1.22 kPa October 31, 2023 Happy Halloween! Last day of the week and there is nothing to do. No watering, no touching, no snipping. Nothing. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is looking good except for the fact that she is now being over encumbered by Strawberry Gorilla 2. Her bud production is moving quite nicely. Great production and starting to really smell. Number 2 looks good as well. Bud production is steady. She won't need any trimming at all for the rest of the grow. I can only hope that these 2 really fill out the whole plant with buds. Maybe I'll need to trim more leaves when the buds start to really swell. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is starting to really stack up. Bud production is perfect and loaded through the whole plant. Foliage is nice and open so the light can penetrate deep. Number 2 is a massive plant. She's overtaking Strawberry Gorilla. She is stretching really well now. Not as vigorous as I had hoped, but she still have the whole transition to flower that will make her stretch even more. Not sure what to do about that. My light is almost at the very top of the tent and she is well over 24" tall now. She may get to 3 ft. I'll have to try my best to accommodate that. The biggest issue I have is the different sizes of the plants. The Strawberry Gorillas are still really short. So I need to find another way to lift them up to keep up with Strawberry Gorilla 2. I'll also need to drop the light intensity down as well which will also cause the DLI to drop below a good range for all 4 plants. Update: I decided to lift Strawberry Gorilla 1 up to the same height as Gorilla Cookies 2 Strawberry Gorilla 2 on the other hand needs a box of some kind. She's about 2 inches shorter and needs to be lifted. I also popped some of the lowest shoots off Gorilla Cookies 1. Just a few though. It's actually really clean under the canopy. And there are buds even on the very bottom of the canopy. Lots of them. I'll update if I find a box. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.7Β° RH: 53.3% VPD: 1.33 kPa

Did I over water this plant? The other 5 are perfectly fine. Just this one. I may have over watered during the transplant. I'm not sure. Just plain distilled water. Same soil across the board for all plants. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

I am sorry my friend but this plant is infected from the inside. Smoking it will cause harm for your health. Better luck next time buddy!

What are the benefits and consequences of defoliating a week before harvest? Is it good or bad? I have tons of foliage up top and need it to go away. It's too late in flower, but a week before will open up the canopy to the lower bud sites. Any and all help is welcome. Thanks!

Haha, love the Cristmas vibe! No there is no need for an aditional defoliation. This will only cause stress and decrease yield! Enjoy your harvest next week buddy! πŸ’š

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.

@nonick123, I agree totally. The SCROG is just a backup. Training definitely helps with branch strength. But too heavy buds would be good too.
