November 8, 2023 Day 64 This week will focus on watering and defoliation for Gorilla Cookies 2 as she is the one who needs all the work at the moment. I also changed the Big Bud to 3 ml/gal. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 looks fine. I have FastBuds helping me with the strange small growth. These people are great! Anyway, she looks healthy and happy now. The trichome coverage is insane. She also has a lot of orange pistils on a few of the more developed colas. They did start to swell finally. So that's good. I also refilled the reservoir today. I didn't both with top feeding her. She has plenty of weight and I don't want to mess with that. Personally I don't think either Strawberry Gorilla will need any top feeding at all because of their sizes. Number 2 is still my tiny warrior. Her buds are also starting to develop orange pistils. Trichome production is pretty good, but no where near as loaded as Number 1. She has a full reservoir and isn't light enough to top feed. Again, I don't think she will need it at all for the rest of the grow. Maybe one more time next week just to get more recharge in. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is getting nice fat colas. Buds are swelling and starting to connect to each other. Her reservoir was bone dry this morning, so she got a full fill-up. I plan on doing a top feeding asap. And she will definitely need it. I need to get more Recharge though as well as Bud Candy, Nirvana, Base Micro and Base Bloom. I can do the Nirvana and base nutrients, but I'm completely out of bud candy and the Nirvana is down to the last few ml. Recharge also has about one dose left too. Eek! Number 2 is astonishing. She's stacking and happy as can be. She has too many tops to count and more still popping up. I did a partial defoliation today. I took most of the big leaves off and some on top that were covering prescious branches and tops. I the lower part of the plant is now open and airy. Lots of light getting through now. I'll do a final defoliation if needed when she gets into her second week of flower. Or when she stops stretching. Then I can clear out what she doesn't need and don't have to worry about new growth. She's still super full and lush though. I did take too much. Probably could have done a bit more, but thought it best to not overdo it. Anyway, she got a gallon top feed and a reservoir refill today. She should be good for the next few days. Although, I think she is getting closer to a half gallon intake per day. If not a bit more now. I can only imagine she will be getting more and more thirsty in the weeks to come. I'm sure with her size and current thirst, she will be at a full gallon a day in no time. Update: While working with FastBuds about the Strawberry Gorillas, I learned that these are a ruderalis phenotype. That is the cause of the 3 finger leaves and the short stature. A wonderful thing to learn. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.4Β° RH: 57.3% VPD: 1.21 kPa November 9, 2023 Nothing to do today except to take pictures. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 looks pretty good with her buds. They are definitely starting to swell up. Lots of orange pistils on a few tops, but that's it. Strange. Anyway, she's good on water for a bit. Looks quite happy. Number 2 is looking pretty good. She's building her buds and doing her thing. Nothing to report otherwise. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is really starting to fatten up. Her buds are connecting and making for some pretty thick long colas. Around 8" to 14" on each top. She looks great! Very healthy and happy. She will be getting a top feeding either today or tomorrow. I'm waiting on my nutrients to get here. Number 2 is still stretching pretty good. Lots of new growth and more tops coming up as well as Bud sites forming all over the place. I'm glad I got both days of defoliation done when I did. No stress and much more growth up top. I'll definitely have to defoliate one more time. She is beyond healthy. Super lush green leaves. The internodal spacing is pretty good. Around 3/4". She cruised through around a half gallon between her soil moisture and the reservoir. I can expect the reservoir to be empty in a day or two. Update: Gorilla Cookies 1 got a half gallon top feed with recharge. That should be enough. Another quick update: I took a new measurement on Gorilla Cookies 2 and she is now 37" tall. She's really close to the light though. Like 13.5" and she's still in the stretch. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9Β° RH: 56.2% VPD: 1.22 kPa November 10, 2023 Little bit to do today. Not much. Just a pluck of a some leaves, a couple lower auxiliary branches and some watering. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is still swelling her buds up. Lots of orange pistils and covered in trichomes. They look pretty dense. She'll be needing a top off probably first thing tomorrow. I pulled some leaves off of her to open up some lower bud space and free up the crowding areas. Looking good. Number 2 is actually swelling better than her sister plant. She isn't as far along so her buds are getting more time to bulk up. Maybe she will give a decent yield after all. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 will be needing a top off tomorrow. She's drinking more now that her buds are starting to really pack on weight. I can only imagine how much more over the next few weeks. She looks fantastic. Number 2 is still stretching pretty hard. About two inches last night. She's absolutely healthy. But she's still stretching and only has 12" to the light. No clue what to do here. Kinda wish I had a taller tent. Damn. If anyone is reading this, leave a comment on what you would do in my situation. Remember, these are autos. I'm really interested to see how others handle this type of situation. If you have been reading a long, you also know I ran out of horizontal space to keep the plant lower. However, considering she is about 4 weeks behind everyone else, I think I'll have enough time in the last few weeks to spread her out with the SCroG net for maximum light penetration. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.3Β° RH: 59.8% VPD: 1.19 kPa November 11, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is still packing on weight. Not too much. Definitely a smaller plant. But the buds that are swelling look pretty good. She got a reservoir top off today. Number 2 has been completely overrun. She's so small and Gorilla Cookies 2 is so large that it shadows the whole plant. Nothing to be done about it now. Either way, her buds are bulking up some and I'm starting to think she might build buds to match the size of the plant. Still no watering needed. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 looks great. Buds are noticably packing on weight now. She looks damned good. Very happy with how she's turning out. Kinda wish she was as tall as the 3 main colas on one side. She got a reservoir refill today. Nothing else going on with her. Number 2 got a half gallon top feed. No recharge. The top watering was to keep her moist while she chugs through the reservoir. She grew another inch last night. She is an absolute beast. She's overtaking most of the tent now and I don't expect her to stop anytime soon. I popped off a couple of the lowest branches that were doing nothing and cleared out any new growth under the canopy. I'd also like to add that she is now 10" from the light now. Still stretching. πŸ€” Btw, I'll be replacing the Big Bud Nutrient with Overdrive starting next week. I'll add it first with the weekly top feed and then half dose in the reservoir. That should do the trick. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.4Β° RH: 55.8% VPD: 1.25 kPa November 12, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 looks pretty good. She is swelling up and starting to pack on some weight. By the looks of her, I'd say another week or two to go. Nice praying leaves, great colors with beautiful purple hues coming in on the buds. No fade yet. I don't expect that until I flush. Number 2 is packing on the weight. She has about 3 weeks left. Not bad at all. Even though she is half obscured by Gorilla Cookies 2, she still looks pretty strong. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is seriously packing on the weight now and swelling her buds up. There are branches that will only show buds. Quite a few actually. I can't wait to see her outcome. Number 2 grew more. Obviously. Unfortunately, she is about 9" away from the light and I can't do anything about it. Anyway, she looks absolutely gorgeous. Her leaves are beautiful and vibrant. Lush and broad. I removed a bit more lower growth. Mostly new and some stuff that I seemed to have missed. Just a couple here and there. Maybe 4 in total? A few leaves and that's it. No stress and I'm hoping this means I'll be getting more productivety at the top of the plant. Technically that's how it's supposed to work. She still has a good 7 weeks left. Hopefully she finishes up her stretch soon. I really can't change anything or it will mess up the other 3 plants in the tent. Not until I find another way to prop them all up to canopy level. Basically, this plant is 40" tall. Maybe 41". That's 104 cm and stuck in a 3x3x6 tent. She needs a 4x4x6.5 tent. However, in the next 3 to 4 weeks, she will be alone and will then live up to her full potential. At least for the last few weeks of flower. So maybe a good 5 weeks alone? That's going to yield some impressive results. She also got a full reservoir refill as it was empty this morning. I really hope the harvesting ends up being staggered a bit. I have 6 plants total. Two of them are taking up the dry tent. Those have about 3 weeks left. Maybe the Gorilla Cookies in that one will be another 4 weeks? Either way, I'll red to do some shuffling. The two Strawberry Gorillas in this tent should be ready in 2 to 3 weeks as well. With any luck, I'll be able to harvest these two and move the two in the dry tent to this tent and then harvest a week or two after the first two. From there on, the only things left are the Gorilla Cookies in the big tent. Two of those will be harvested in about 4 weeks. Then it's just the Gorilla Cookies 2 left. That would be ideal. A harvest every two weeks with 3 different harvests. So a total of 6 weeks of harvesting and drying. I'll definitely need to get some big grove bags for this harvest. Mostly because I still have a lot of bud left from the last harvest. And it's not going anywhere anytime soon. By the time harvest rolls around, I'll still have about 4 oz left. What excellent information that is. Update: So I got bored and decided to make more plant observations. I found that the Gorilla Cookies 1 has really nice stacks coming up. Not only are they all over the plant, but they are getting long, connecting and already are covering a few branches to the point where you can barely see the actual branch. Those buds were already covering most of it. Now that they are stacking tall, I expect some massive buds from this plant. The one in the Overflow Tent is doing the same thing. Not as quickly or robustly, but it's in a 1 gallon container. I'm not expecting a lot from it. Gorilla Cookies 1 will be the second best plant in the crop from what I can see. Update: I found another bucket. A 2 gallon one. So I put that and a plant riser under Gorilla Cookies 1. That freed up 2 more risers which I put under both Strawberry Gorillas. They are now at a reasonable height compared to light distance. However, I'm not too sure what to do about the intensity. Gorilla Cookies 2 is less than 10" but if I drop the intensity, it will take away from the other plants, but also wont penetrate deep enough through the canopy. I'll keep an eye on her and see if she starts showing signs of light stress. So far I see nothing. But I'm no expert. I mean, the leaves are going from light green to a lush beautiful green as they get older. I'm also concerned that if I lower the intensity, won't it make her stretch more? πŸ€”πŸ€” Unsure of this one. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.2Β° RH: 57.3% VPD: 1.21 kPa November 13, 2023 Some stuff was done today with all ladies. Everything looks great in the tent. We have some lighting issues with height and plant size. I'll get into it. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 looks great! She's starting to really swell now. However, I don't think I'm going to get big chunky buds from her. She will most likely have smaller colas, but I can say the end result will be amazing with the amount of trichomes she currently has. So for the lighting on this plant. As she is only 16" tall, she is on a 5 gallon bucket with a riser under that. She's about 16" from the light which is perfect. Her DLI is on the lower end for flowering, but within range. She also isn't covered by any other plant. Looking good. She is definitely going to be done first. I'll have to hold her while I wait for another plant to finish up. Number 2 is getting some pretty hefty buds. Her colas are bulky and look super dense. They won't get to be enormous I'm sure, but will still pack a punch. She will definitely need a top watering at the beginning of next week. As for height, she is a mere 13" tall. That being said, she is about 18" from the light and is being overshadowed by the massive Gorilla Cookies 2. There are two branches that popped right up and are at the SCroG net level. Really nice there, but not much help for the rest of the plant. I rotated her a bit to see if I can make more room. It worked a bit, but not much. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is looking great! Moisture level is perfect. She's drinking plenty from the reservoir. She'll also be getting a full top watering at the beginning of next week. Her lighting is actually spot in with the light height. 16" from her canopy and showing it with her abundance of bud sites. The three tallest branches are furthest away from the light. This position prevents light burn as well as keeps the buds looking good. Looking back at how I trainer her and her position in the tent, I should have put the taller parts of the plant in the center to help with the rest of the plant to stretch. Oh well. Learn something new. Number 2 is absolutely biggest plant for me to date. She is 41" tall and has more branches than I can count. Her bud sites are everywhere. Even in the middle of the canopy there's buds forming. If she were alone in the tent, she would fill the whole thing wall to wall. As it stands her structure is pretty nice. Near perfectly level canopy and a clean lower portion of the plant. However, the amount of side and auxiliary branches there are is causing the plant branches to be "woven" together. I've tried to keep them in order, but the plant has been growing so fast, they just keep wrapping themselves around each other. I'm sure it will all turn out great in the end. These are lower branches that caught up to the canopy practically over night. She's thirsty as well. Her soil moisture level is around 30% I'm not completely sure I like it that low, but I think I can wait for 25% which will hopefully be in 2 days. I may have to give her a half gallon today. It all depends on how she looks in the next few hours. she still has weight to her, but not enough. The bottom feed seems to be working. But will need another reset with the top feed at the beginning of next week. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.1Β° RH: 56.6% VPD: 1.21 kPa November 14, 2023 Last day of this week. I've already prepared for tomorrow. Well, almost. I need to refill my gallon jugs for tomorrow's top feed for all the ladies. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 got a reservoir refill this morning. She'll be getting a full gallon top feed tomorrow. She's looking pretty good. Tons and tons of trichomes and the buds are super dense. I don't think she has finished putting on weight yet. Number 2 is still tiny, but the buds are bulking up more than that of number 1. She's seriously overshadowed now as Gorilla Cookies 2 stretches like mad. She doesn't go through nearly as much water as the rest of the group. That's ok though. She's taking in what she needs. The top feed will reset the bottom feed system as well, so maybe I'll start getting some slightly bigger buds. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 looks great! She's packing on more weight and she's bulking up even more. Pistils are fat and long. I can only expect good things from her. She got a full reservoir refill today. Her top feed tomorrow should work wonders for this lady. Resetting the bottom feed system should increase her intake and in turn increase her bud production. Most of the branches are officially covered in buds. The colas are super long and I expect they will end up super chunky nugs. Number 2 is out of control. She is now 6" away from the light making her roughly 43" tall. She's a friggin beast! Tons and tons of bud sites. Uncountable tops. And they are all level. I can see so much coming out of this plant. So I won a contest recently for Seedsman with autoflowers. The plant was a Zkittlez Auto. That plant ended at 34" with quite a few tops and 6.5 oz of dry bud. This plant, however is taller, bulkier and healthier. I can only deduce this plant will have better and more dense buds. In turn, the increase in health and density, I would wager a guess of around 8 to 10 oz dry weight. We shall see. So long as I don't run into any other issues. The folks at FastBuds recommended to increase the daylight hours and drop the intensity down so I don't get light burn. Sounds like a good idea. I think I'll change that for tomorrow and run 22/2 at around 40 to 50% power. The goal is to keep the DLI down to around 45 mol/mΒ²/d. Trial and error for the day I think. She also got a full top off with her reservoir today. Again, preparing for tomorrow. Update: So after careful observation of the top leaves of Gorilla Cookies 2, I noticed some burn spots on a couple leaves. I also saw some canoeing on 2 leaves as well. No big deal, but I don't want it to go any further. So I turned the light down from 60% to 40% for now. I'll probably bring it back up when I can spread her out after all the other plants are gone. Anyway, I was going to change it to 20/4 but I'll leave it here for the time being. The DLI dropped a bit low with the Strawberry Gorillas, but let's face it. The focus needs to be on the best plant in the tent and that is the Gorilla Cookies 2. So now I have the DLI down to a still too high 55 mol/mΒ²/d. But it's the best I can do. I do wonder how people with 400 and 1000 watt lights turn theirs way up without causing light stress. Is it because they are that high up? Or am I just being too careful? πŸ€”πŸ€” Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.3Β° RH: 57.4% VPD: 1.24 kPa

Growdiaries is currently broken, it isn't accepting/posting any new diaries. It's been like this for over a week now. Every time I click save on a new germination diary it says at the top "Something went wrong" The admins are absent it seems.

Did I over water this plant? The other 5 are perfectly fine. Just this one. I may have over watered during the transplant. I'm not sure. Just plain distilled water. Same soil across the board for all plants. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

My largest plant just started to flower and is already 9" from the light which is at the top of the tent. It's a 240 watt light board from AC Infinity. I have it set to 60% power. Should I leave it there or should I dial it down? No signs of stress yet. Other plants are shorter.

Hst the big plant and raise any still lower to equalize canopy across room. I see fox tails being a issue for you in about 6 weeks from light hot spot on plant. Best plan to start avoiding it now.

A few of the lowest auxiliary branches on my Gorilla Cookies are not getting enough attention from the plant. Should I remove them? Or should I leave them because of being in week 4 of flower? Take a look at my diary to see the plant and then these pics. Sideways pics? Weird.

Your describing a process known as Lolipopping. its good to do on lower bud sites that will not get the same exposure "light and air" as the top buds sites. I've done this on grows where I've used SCROG net and it worked out well. Good Luck!

Got bud rot. So I removed all of it. Should I harvest or wait a couple days to see what the plant does? It was a lot of bud rot. All of one side and most of the bottom of the canopy. Lost a few branches. Sideways pics? Again?

I am sorry my friend but this plant is infected from the inside. Smoking it will cause harm for your health. Better luck next time buddy!

What are the benefits and consequences of defoliating a week before harvest? Is it good or bad? I have tons of foliage up top and need it to go away. It's too late in flower, but a week before will open up the canopy to the lower bud sites. Any and all help is welcome. Thanks!

Haha, love the Cristmas vibe! No there is no need for an aditional defoliation. This will only cause stress and decrease yield! Enjoy your harvest next week buddy! πŸ’š

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
