September 20, 2023 Day 15 Today is the start of Nutrients. I would normally wait another week, but this is recycled soil, so I'm guessing the nutrients are depleted a bit. I will also be activating the Bottom Wick Feeding Systems for them. They will soak up that water in a few days and everything will be great! I'm only giving nutrients every other watering. These are also 1 gallon reservoirs, so mixing is pretty easy. Everyone looks pretty good. Just root building and will speed way up now that the bottom feed system is setup. Not much plant growth, but that is to be expected around this time. In the next few days, everyone should start to take off. As for growth over the last week, they have all started on their second set of true leaves. I may increase the light intensity sometimes this week. Currently it's at 50% power. I'll most likely bump it up to 60% and play with it as the plants start to grow more. Currently the DLI is around 19 mol/m²/d. I'd like to have it around 22 mol/m²/d. I know it's a bit high, but I feel like these strains will enjoy the extra light as vigorous as they are supposed to be. Quick Update: All 4 containers are priming nicely. They should be fully primed and acclimated in just a couple of days. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.2° RH: 64.8% VPD: 0.96 kPa DLI: 22 mol/m²/d 50% Intensity September 21, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking fantastic. Near identical and healthy as can be. Beautiful color. Leaves are full and lush. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are also perfectly healthy. Near identical. Working on their 3rd set of leaves. The leaves are pretty broad and super lush. Strong stems. Standing straight up. No praying yet. I'm interested to see if maybe the light is in the wrong position. I may recalibrate my phone. (I have a DLI measuring tool on my phone) Watering: So far 3 of the 4 have done pretty well with their priming. The second Strawberry Gorilla is a bit slower. I added some water to the top to hopefully induce more absorption. I'll check back on them later today and see how it's doing. Environment: My room was a bit cool this morning. So the tent was also a little cooler than I'd like it at 73°. I had to turn my heater on to get my room up to the right temp. No big deal though. The tent is now at a comfortable 75°. Hopefully it goes up a bit higher. I'd like to see 77°, but this is fine. The humidity is pretty good as well. 62% without the humidifier on. Growth: each of these plants is in great shape. They are all doing slightly different things though. Strawberry Gorilla Two is reaching like she doesn't have enough light, while Strawberry Gorilla One isn't showing any reach. Gorilla Cookies One seems to look the best of all. And Gorilla Cookies Two finally recovered from whatever her issue was. Overall, today is an easy going positive day. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.2° (now 75°) RH: 74.2% (now 62%) VPD: 0.72 kPa (now 1.06 kPa) September 22, 2023 All 4 plants got a half gallon of nutrient water top feed today. I know I was going to wait for the bottom feed system to prime, but this will help the roots grow wider before going down. Not to mention, the soil was nearly bone dry. At least on the outer sides. The half gallon should soak enough soil to meet the bottom in the middle. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking quite good. The internodal spacing is a bit short for what I was expecting, but that's ok. There's still plenty of time for them to really stretch out to a reasonable distance. They still look great! Just a little short in the spacing. Great color, nice structure and decent vigor. Gorilla Cookies: Both of these ladies are especially nice. The internodal spacing looks great as well as color and structure. They both look like they will be big plants. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.2° RH: 66.7% VPD: 0.99 kPa September 23, 2023 Not much going on today. I'm not going to water, nor do anything else. Well, except for the oscillating fan. I dropped that a few inches so it gives a little more air flow to the plants. Strawberry Gorilla: They both look great. Short nodes on both. I can only imagine that is the way they grow. Not bad, but noticable. They still look great. Strong stems too. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 on the other hand are slightly different. Number 2 that had the watering issues is now the most developed of the bunch. She has 3 strong nodes, well spaced and already growing side branches. The other one is similar to the Strawberry Gorillas but the nodes aren't as short. Either way, they both look good. Great color and seem to be taking well to the nutrients. At least I'm not seeing any new issues. The yellowing little leaves were already a thing. I believe it was the transition from the plug to the soil. They look the same and it happened on 3 of them. So I'm seeing a bit of a pattern. I think the soil needed more nutrients. Anyway, it's really early to tell what they are going to do. At least for the feeding I think. Overall not much action today. Nothing to do. Maybe fight the temp a little bit. It's kinda low, but I expect it to get warmer throughout the day. I wonder if that's supposed to happen. It's only 9:30 am and the light turns on at 6:00 am. Quick Equipment Update: My oscillating fan is on the fritz. I have to get a replacement. AC Infinity CLOUDRAY S6. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.6° RH: 68.6% VPD: 0.87 kPa September 24, 2023 I decided to water 3 of the 4 plants. Gorilla Cookies 2 is fine for watering. She did however get a reservoir top off. Anyway, just below the surface of the 3 was dry as a bone. So I added a half gallon of nutrient water top feed. Let's hope it goes well. Strawberry Gorilla: These 2 are looking great. I noticed they are a bit slower to grow than Gorilla Cookies. While these 2 still have pretty short nodes, Gorilla Cookies has beautiful node spacing. However, these 2 are taller and still quite healthy. Strong stems. What's really interesting is how they are nearly identical. I almost certainly have the same phenome. Gorilla Cookies: While Strawberry Gorilla are identical, these 2 show subtle differences. Gorilla Cookies 2 is developing absolutely wonderfully. Perfectly even internodal spacing. Wonderful colors and strong. Just an overall nice looking plant. Gorilla Cookies is slightly different in color and structure. She seems to be a bit thinner in stature. They are about the same size. Anyway, let's hope the watering today helps along boosting growth for Gorilla Cookies 1. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 66.5% VPD: 0.93 kPa September 25, 2023 Not much to do today. No watering needed. However, it's the exciting time. All 4 plants took off last night. Each one has side branches growing rapidly. I love this time. Strawberry Gorilla: Both ladies are starting to stretch their noses out. Looking great! Excellent color and beautiful leaves and colors. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 are looking good. They have fantastic structure and everything is proportionate with side branches growing vigorously. Beautiful green and wonderful leaves. The stems are also pretty strong. Speaking of stems and strength. I have always wondered. Does the constant air circulation cause the stems to harden off too quickly? I feel like this may cause difficulty when training. If anyone is actually reading this, do you have any thoughts on the matter? Leave a comment. I'd love to see what you all have to say. Update: I ended up top watering with plain water on 3 of the 4 plants. The soil just below the surface is super dry still. So I sprayed the top for a bit, just to get more water to seep in. I'll go back in a couple of hours and do it again and again until I get the soil moist all throughout. Update: I ordered a small thing of Recharge last week. It came in today, so I'll be adding it to the next feeding. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9° RH: 71.2% VPD: 0.81 kPa September 26, 2023 I was going to start training these ladies starting tomorrow, but they all seem perfect for training. So I decided to start with the one single bend. They are all anchored down to keep the stem straight. One single side bend. Strawberry Gorilla: The shape of this strain is a tall stem but really short nodes. The bend was perfectly fine, but it doesn't look nearly as good as the Gorilla Cookies strain. Either way, they should turn out great! Let's hope I can keep up with the growth. I shouldn't have any troubles. If need be, I have a scrog net to help. I was planning on topping one of these, but I feel like doing so will ruin my canopy and what I'm doing. I may have to top if they grow too tall. Let's hope I can keep the whole tent level. Gorilla Cookies: These 2 have perfect structures for training. At least that's my opinion. The nodes are perfectly proportionate with the plant size. This should be perfect and I'll have a wonderful canopy. No watering today for them. They seem to be fine on that for now. I'll probably give another top watering tomorrow. Not much, but I need to get the recharge in the soil. Hopefully that brings the soil back to its full potential. Update: I decided to start LST on all 4 plants today. They look perfect to start, so I did. Each one is anchored down and has just the one starting bend. They were quite easy as well. Near perfect flexibility on the stems. I can wait to see how they look tomorrow. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.2° RH: 72.3% VPD: 0.76 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest 🙏 please and thank you 😊

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

Why are they growing slowly? I have 6 plants total. 4 in this tent and 2 in another smaller tent. The ones in the smaller tent are in 1 gallon fabric containers and get the same bottom feed wick system as the 5 gallon ones in this tent. Why are the 1 gallon bigger? Thanks!

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie 😃 🙏

How much if any foliage or stray branches should I remove from the bottom of this plant? She's super healthy so I don't think it will be an issue with stress, but I don't want any undue stress. Should I just leave it? I'd like to avoid popcorn buds all together.

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
