Happy new year everyone, glad we made it to week 12 from seed, and week 5 into flower. Last week I did a couple trims of some large fan leaves and also trimmed some that were covering other main bud growths from the lights. I did an extra week of alternating the same nutrient measurements and plain ph water until the colas had start getting bigger in girth. Height has slowed down and stayed at a good 13.5" from the growing medium and has at least 16" of head space from the lights, which is not a problem for now since I've changed the spectrum on Sunday from 100% blue and red light to 100% red and 40% blue, so that I can give it the go to grow a little taller and bigger in yield with the red lighting. As soon as the buds start getting bigger in mass I can change the spectrum again to an even red and blue light so it can go back to focusing on potency and node stacking. The grow tent is starting to smell a very sweet tangy citrus candy smell, but i'm starting to wonder a few things I will go into details about the two plants.
One plant i've noticed has a distinct smell and phenotype (the smaller one) that i've noticed is starting to be very different from the bigger plant. The bigger phenotype is growing much more sporadically with its many colas now developing with a hue of purple in its buds and a much more potent smell that describes what the breeders page had said it would be. The smaller plant has fewer colas counting at 9 but are significantly healthy and looks like will develop huge yields but the color is not as purple— in fact, there's no purple almost at all within its bud sites or main growth except the fan leaves' stems and parts of the main trunk. The odor is also very different from the other, it smells distinctly the same but with less fruity/candy bouquet and more skunky/earthy smell. Either these are two different strains or different phenotype plants which I might assume for the most part since i've seen photos of complete grows and some yields came out to look like either one of the plants i'm growing right now. This is all just observation and not really complaints about my initial purchase of the seeds since i'm overall satisfied with how things are going so far.
I've invested in a microscopic lens that will come in handy when harvest comes close at hand for viewing trichome colors and pistil color changes. I've taken the liberty of taking a few photos and manipulating the lens with my phone to get some nice photos of the trichomes. Nutrient measurements will now change for more yield and flowering until at least 2-3 weeks before harvesting when I will begin to flush the medium. Hope yall had a great holiday and see you next week!
Congrats on the successful harvest. Those are some beautiful buds. Been sitting on a few packs of these but after seeing this I may need to bust them open. Nice work my friend.
Hello my friend I have a question what week did your gelat OG plants start producing trichomes? I’m currently in flower week 4 and I have NO trichromatic production
@Gutismoke102, Hello buddy, sorry i took too long to respond, i'm starting a new grow this year and just logged in after a long time. You should start to get trichome production around that week if not later, if not then I suggest giving your plant more bloom nutrients to speed up flower maturity, best of luck!
@JohnnyLong, thanks for the heads up but theres no option to list a switch to 12/12 as a technique, yet oddly I can list it on a separate week log, so thats what it means..
