Since autos have a finite timeline is it better to just let it grow as much as possible and get as big as possible or have the most bud sites when its starts to flower?

Cut or keep topped branches? (1st day of flower)I have 2 budsites on my plants that I needed to top due to dying growth (either from windburn or trellis net).
