hey, I’d like a couple of your opinions regarding defoliation + lollipopping. I’ve reached the point where I need to defoliate my jungle, but I’m afraid of messing up. I can already do lollipopping, but defoliation remains a mystery.

Defoliation can be used to accomplish different things at different points of your grow. If you're trying to grow a more symmetrical plant it can be used in veg to slow down overly aggressive branches. I find it useful when SCROGing a particularly leafy strain to eliminate humid zones and promote airflow. Powdery mildew loves leaf on leaf contact. In flower, sites that are unshaded with good airflow around them develop better than a shaded site near the main stem. Most of this gets corrected with LST of some type, but thoughtfully removing a leaf here and there can go a long way with a bushy plant. Not all strains react to defoliation the same. If you got a stretchy plant with few fans you should probably avoid it.

The key to experimenting with defoliation is doing it thoughtfully. Don't just remove leaves at random, only remove a leaf if it's creating unwanted shading of lower bud sites. If done on a healthy plant, it's unlikely you will do any major damage to the plant(at least during veg since it can always be given time to recover) so experiment with it to see how your plants respond to it. Personally I like to do a fairly thorough defoliation right before I flip to 12/12 and then a lighter one after the flowering stretch.
