Numerous studies have been done and many different plants, I am unsure of consensus. https://dc.cod.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1533&context=essai This paper attempts to answer the question - and does direct comparisons with and without mycorrhizae from seed. The results suggest it is highly beneficial. Interested to find out!

Logically, I would tell you to leave it alone directly in clean water, they could interfere with root respiration. I personally leave the seeds soaking for 24 hours before moving them into the substrate, in this way the water permeates well inside the seed and activates it without drowning it, since it is in the substrate you are free to put whatever you want as the contribution of oxygen is ensured by the porosity of the substrate. I am not a botanist but since using this technique I have never seen a single seed fail. Good luck :)

It's not going to do any harm - but it's not going to do any good, either... all the seed needs, to start the process of germination, is water... But good luck with your journey!
