I am considering making some dry ice hash but I'm not familiar with this. What formulation do I need. There are pellets ,strips and sheets. Blocks too I think. I've seen pellets in different sizes.3mm and upwards. Anyone who can help me get started would be most appreciated

I know you speak about dry, but i use simple ice cubes, better buy crushed ice even ... What i learned while trying : Better use full mesh bags. One of last photo on harvest week. growdiaries.com/diaries/164028-grow-journal-by-asnoriu I eventually ended up with only two bags , 220 to clean, 25 micron to collect. While using 5 or 7 bag sets, my favorite hash was from 50 mesh. But it takes time, so i just reduced to two and process goes way faster. Why full mesh ? After a year or so, those with plastic sides start to peal off, i dont want plastic in my bubble. Tried dry or wet trim, wet always taste better. With wet trim better to keep it for 3-14 days in freezer. Keeping longer brings fridge smells, downgrades quality - hash after drying and curing becomes dusty, breaks , not holds form, reminds dry trim hash. Material straight to bucket, dont ut bag into bag and so on, just material and ice. Create vortex, that hels to break trichs off, i do 2-3 min spins, let hand recover for 5 min and repeat. 40-60 min and you can go through filters. I was doing 3 waves for best extraction, each time changing water and adding fresh ice. Cheap washing machine, not riffeled pipe out from alibaba and you have bubble wash machine not for 400, but for 50$ max. Saw people use drill and head for plastering mix, but then too much of leaves particles goes into hash, becomes dusty too. So i stoped breaking material so heavily. You need two buckets , one for mixing, then first filter into second, wash through and reuse first with next level of mesh. Try to keep fresh buble in smaller crumbles, dryes out faste, some put again into freezer for 6 hours or so and then grade it into smaller bits for better drying.

btw, you don't need to buy costly dry ice with bubble hash. Regular ice cubes or crushed or bagged cubes from the grocery store is fine. They glands will still freeze in the water and break off. Sorry, forgot to mention that.

> I'm not sure but bubble hash, all you need is the bags with various micron mesh screen sizes, a 5 gallon bucket, some water, and a few bags of ice That's the pain-in-the-ass setup (and you need three 5gal buckets). You need RO water, lot of ice, a washing machine, filters, a tank with a grid and a water pump that sends water back to the washing machine or a water jet. And for the filters, you can choose between bubble bags (and a bottomless bucket for each) or vibrating sieves. The hardest part about bubble hash is the drying: you have to glaze the hash collected in the filters and then scrape it off onto a flat surface to dry in the air or in a freeze-dryer. > Other way is just old school like they do in Afghanistan. "old school", the other word for "you can't dab it"ā€¦ šŸ’©

The more evenly distrubuted it is among the plant material, the more quickly everything gets to the right low temperature. I wouldn't go too small with the pellets nor pay extra for it, but might be more efficient at the job. dry ice is so cold that proximity in a small mesh bag may be consequential... maybe, more important with larger quantites? As you shake it the varying desnities will separate, so have some object to mix it up again, if you got a ton in there. trichomes get brittle and fall off through the sieve... all that is happening. Anything that sucks the heat out more evenly might save small amount of agitation to get same return, which potentially meeans a bit less contamination of other plant material beyond trichomes. Dry ice hash is pretty brutal no mater what, so it's gonna be green unlike ice-water hash.. less contamination in ice-wataer method, but also akes a hell of a lot longer and risk of dumping 3-5 gallons on your floor if inside. local supermarkets in the US at least often carry dry ice. i'd just take a hammer to it in a bag before i paid extra for any particular shapes or sizes :P but if same price that'd save a step.

As far as I know, there's no real formulation, the principle being to glaze the material so that the trichomes remain solid and detach easily (as with the bubble hash, with which I'm more familiar). The small pellets seem more likely to mix well with the raw material and keep it as icy as possible. Ed Rosenthal's blog talks about 3 lb (1.36Kg) of dry ice for 4 oz (113g) of material: https://www.edrosenthal.com/the-guru-of-ganja-blog/2018/7/27/make-your-own-dry-ice-kief-in-minutes

I'm not up on the latest and greatest methods of hash making, but bubble hash is maybe the most cost effective? I'm not sure but bubble hash, all you need is the bags with various micron mesh screen sizes, a 5 gallon bucket, some water, and a few bags of ice. Then what i like, is instead of a electric cake mixer with those short little batter mixer thingys, use a cordless drill and a drywall compound mixing attachment. Zip that thing around the water, ice and weed for awhile and then pull the bags out and go through each bag. They have progressively smaller micron screens so you get various levels of quality. Scrape the hash paste off the screens with a spoon and set it on some paper to dry. You can use the same batch of weed and do a few runs. Other way is just old school like they do in Afghanistan. Beat the dried out plants on the floor, or just handle the greasy buds and roll it off your fingers. I saw other methods of separating the glands from the flower but i don't remember the process.
