if sealed up, yes you need to burp. Especially if still gassing off moisture. If it's not fully dry at equilibrium with temps/rh, then they'll be overly moist and grow mold.
If they have fully dried, a sealed environment will eventually cause anaerobic bacteria growth, which will turn the weed brown and make it smell not so good.. some people actually prefer this, but i have no idea why, lol. So even after dried, 1/week burping is a good idea.
'curig' for weed isn't really the same as curing tobacco. Just dry it slowly and avoid anaerobic bacterial growth and all is well.
if you are going to make butter it won't matter much. it's an 'extraction.' When you warm it up, the volatiles terps you might have preserved are going to boil off. Only oily substances with a BP 212F will be absorbed by the butter.
i open my buckets and wave the lid across the top a couple times, then twist the lid back on.. simple as that. Once in curing stage, fill up the containers more fully. you want less air inside at that point. ~75% full if still gassing off moisture is a good idea.
light an o2 and heat are you enemy, but lack of o2 will cause anaerobic growth. Unless you replace the air inside container with nitrogen or vacuum seal, gotta live with burping and adding a little o2 back in.
I use smoke jar sizes that make me re-fill every week or so. That's i how remember to burp, lol. If you don't want brown weed, you do it until it is gone. If you are going to smoke it all up in 3-6 months, won't matter much. Get some 2-way humidipaks and call it a day (boveda, not the other brand)
