tri-leaf mutation usually comes with 3 axillary buds (nubs that turn into branches). so, just a variation of that mutation, i guess. It might still form some branches there. Any possibility of fertilizer drips or physical damage? plant is healthy. So, wouldn't be too concerned. Some mutations ramp up, some are not seen again in new growth... figure it out as it happens. Are there little nubs where the branches should be? can't see well enough with this picture.

In my diary of Alien sparkle you can see more examples of it. Every male and female expressed polyaxial growth.

In botany its called polyaxial growth. Common? No. More uncommon than common anyway. But it is known to happen. It's nothing to be concered about. It may do more of that as it grows.

It's not a polyploid. That is incredibly rare. This is fasciation and a much more common mutation, where some of the plant shows the mutation and other areas completely unaffected. I have had it in my garden many times, nothing to worry about. Sometimes increases yield and sometimes decreases it. Not much you can do.

I don't remember what it's called but it's a fairly common mutation. I believe its associated with 3 cotyledons and the plants grow out of it normally

Not polyploid, just a genetic mutation/variation. Yes it is quite common, I have had plants with random nodes that sprouted 3-4-5 leaves........it does not affect anything, you still get normal buds, not multiple Frankenstein buds appearing. One plant had just one branch on the entire plant that had 3-4 leaves at evey node and every other branch had the normal 2 leaves at every node. Cannabis is a surprising plant at times and the longer you grow, the more weird things that you will see! Triploid would mean the entire plant has 3 sprouts at every node, not just a random triple leaf sprout here and there..........it is just a slight genetic "hiccup". True polyploidism in cannabis is extremely rare, there have only been a couple of scientifically varified cases over the last century. Cannabis does not have polyploidism in its' ancestry.

50% to over 70% of all flowering plant species have a polyploid ancestry; having it express is another thing. One study estimates polyploidy forms at a frequency of 1 in every 100,000 plants. Quite rare. RNG :)
