Winter 2022 - Lemon Pie Auto (42Fast B)

TommyBVRSA75 Germination completed. The seed still has the cotyledons in the shell, and it has been transferred from the wet paper towel method to a Riot Cube for seedling development. So far, everything is normal, seed hatching completed and developing since 11/12/2022.

TommyBVRSA75 First week development, perfect. There's a noticeable curve in the stem, but no structural issues at all. The week was dedicated to the introduction of the mycorrhizal apparatus, with two combinations that I always use... the UGRO Rhiza 1200 and the introduction of fast-acting Glomus intraradices (24 hours) along with the mycorrhizae from Trabe, especially the Myco Plant due to the combination of arbusculars with some humic acids that Trabe contains in this product. At the beginning of the week, Trichoderma will be added to prevent any "bad experiences" with pathogenic fungi, especially due to the high humidity and consistent temperature that makes it harder for the substrate to dry out. Other than that, this season, Plagron will be the chosen brand for our grows. I opted for the 100% Natural Grow, which is Plagron's most organic line, and I've included a product from Plagron that's more mineral-based, which is their Pure Zym. Preparations of 1.5l are being made, distributed every two days, following the pre-control that Plagron recommends to maximize their organic products, such as maintaining the consistency of EC and pH, which for it to be perfect should be above a pH of 6.0. That's why I control pH with Plagron Lemon Kick, and with no more than 6 drops, it maintains perfect conductivity and pH for the standards that Plagron sets for this organic line. As for the seedling development, everything is OK. The stem is slightly curved, but that's due to the post-germination days in the Riot Cube and the seedling's search for light. In comparison with the "brother" strain planted and germinated on the same day, there are already some distinct characteristics, like the long and slightly wavy leaves (compared to the "brother" strain with narrower leaves and a very pronounced "sawtooth" groove), showing a strong Indica character already taking shape. Regarding the addition of the two 26w LED tubes at 6500K (cold white spectrum), it’s evident that the most common problem with the 192w Blurple LED spectrum - Phytolite NX2 200 - that I’ve used in the last seasons has been addressed. The "flattened" appearance of the plants in the first three weeks of growth, with very short internodes and overlapping leaves, led to problems after week 4, with light reaching the inner leaves and stems, even with the application of different cultivation techniques. With the 26w LED tubes at 6500 Kelvin, growth is occurring in a much more natural and balanced way, and in this first week, even though it seems like the seedling is getting etiolated, it’s not happening. I’ve just gotten used to seeing "flattened" seedlings in the last growing seasons, and now, normality feels like exaggerated narrowing. Next week, for sure, there will be a lot of new things to tell you... because there will be a surprise... a big one.

TommyBVRSA75 Week 2 and a half (16 days) - because everything doesn’t have to be insecurity and mistakes (because they are made and will always be made, and the more we become overly confident with some risky decisions, that’s when we run into major problems) as I’ve said in the diary "brother," the "face and crown" of this grow season comes with the "good sister" present here in this diary and in this entry. The Purple Skunk from Sensi is thriving... what a wonder to see how this Indica has come saying to the "bad sister" in the grow cabinet, "see how I grow without problems... here I am, showing you my long leaves like sheets and here I show you that your problem has to do with something in your genetics that is so automatic and we are both Indicas like the top of a pine tree... like me but, still, so different... what happened?!? ... well, we both started "eating" the same and in the same progressive amount, we took the same lights and hour cycle, we have the same substrate and we have the same journey from the day we were planted as seeds in the paper towel and just on the same day our root appendage came out... on the same day we went to the Riot Cube, we rooted almost equally and in the same volume of substrate and equally, you are also in an airpot of the same volume as mine" ... STILL (!!!) if one is curled up and sickly, this one puts on the face of perfection and shows us, in her splendor, the virtue of a genetics that might be more adapted to colder weather and higher humidity. If one is black, the other is white; if one is sun, the other is moon; if one is sweet, the other is sour; if one is sound, the other is silence and why?!? There are unfathomable mysteries in mother nature and the clear example is that the expression of phenotype and environmental conditions that put one at the peaks put the other at the gates of hell... In short, the Purple Skunk from Sensi, in some of my latest "automatic" winter seasons, is the pinnacle of perfection when it comes to Indicas... If it were magical, I would play the lottery every week and win every other week... and if the other "girl 42" with her announced outstanding genetics and everything that should come out wonderfully, we have her dwarf and we’ve had her "connected" to basic life support and still very much aware of what could come out worse, very soon (and in that Murphy's law is a bitch), on the other hand, I almost want to take this Purple Skunk outside and show her to the world so they can see how well she’s doing... One thing I am very clear about is that even with the support of 26 W PLED grow lights of 5600 Kelvin (for growth), which should give a boost to the vegetative state, the Blurple LEDs keep "doing their thing," and more in the case of my LED Phytolite NX2 200 with 192w nominal, it drives me crazy... and once again at least until day 25 of growth (never before almost 4 weeks of grow), I will always have these types of grows flattened and what I see, of something different, is that with the addition of the two 26w PLED growth tubes (5100 Kelvin - white lights), what they provide so far is in the enormous surface of the first leaves... the prominent Indica leaves have turned into almost lettuce leaves and I’ve rarely seen something like that... I had a huge secret and very significant changes in the course of this week in the last diary entry, but still having to wait a few more days for it to become reality, I will share with you the most novel things that are coming... I heard very good things about the new LED series from 2022, from the brand Mars Hydro and their TS1000 team of 150w and that and more the "bell" they’ve rung on their prices during the Christmas season and directly to the European branch of this American reference brand (I will never, in my life and as long as I can, buy LED equipment from stores that operate as third-party sellers) ... so I ordered one of these panels at a reduced price, but then taking it with more criteria, I thought... "what am I going to do mixing spectrums when I’m already "fed up" with the purple spectrum I have and being aware of the problems that can arise with mixing spectrums (the TS Mars Hydro is a Full spectrum of natural sunlight type)... I read in great detail the opinions of experts on this new line of Mars Hydro from 2022 and from what I could observe in the measurements made on Youtube by someone independent, the maximum PPFD effectiveness is for the area of 60X60, but guaranteed and with a deviation margin of 5%, 150 watts are 150 watts and not 130 or less than 100, as in some cases from manufacturers who to increase the average life of the LED diodes, cut power in some cases to almost 50% of total capacity... so what good is it to buy a piece of equipment with 300 nominal watts if afterwards, the effective doesn’t exceed 200... the case of my LED Phytolite or others like Solux and some market options, that sell you equipment that if you want you can "open" to reach their "real" capacity but you know they are going to heat up like halogens "the old way" and if you "open" them they last 5000 instead of the 50000 hours, plus the most likely is that you burn any plant no matter how strong its strain is. So I thought and made the decision I’ve been taking time to make. If you need more serious results and above all that the gram/watt ratio increases to what I desire, the solution is still at a reduced price, to buy the second TS1000 150w unit and how wonderful, we will make use of what the Full spectrum LEDs can give us best. Since they have a potentiometer (dimmable option) and allow you to connect them in a Daisy chain scheme with a direct cable between the drivers, I’ve converted a grow room from a main Blurple LED of 192 nominal watts (but output not exceeding 130w) into a Full Spectrum LED 300w (effective) with double coverage, meaning that the 80x80 of my cabinet will be completely covered and I will continue using the two 26w PLED tubes, both of 5600K until we have vegetative and the two of 2100K to give a boost to the corner areas in flowering... and I’m sure I will have a very different reality from what I’ve had in the last seasons and the Blurple... which has me "fed up" with the curled and flattened grows I get in the early vegetative times. One of the things that made me lean towards this change has been that it seems the Italian Phytolite has gone "down the drain" and almost launched COB modules for the NX2 200 (they even had it announced and available on their page) and for users like me to be able to change the multicolor modules that make the purple spectrum, for the page to be "off the air" and Phytolite has "died," which means that even warranty issues could become a problem if in the future there are breakdowns in the promised 5 years of warranty... who do you ask if the company has ended?!? Then something changed in the last two series of TS1000 from Mars Hydro, first the reflectivity has increased a lot and above all, the heating problems that occurred in summer, due to the drivers being fixed to the panel, can now be removed and for example moved outside the cabinet where the environment isn’t as hot in summer. Another positive note is that even with an automatic current timer and what usually happened when the timer turned on the panel and when the potentiometer was at 75 or 100%, that start with the regulator already elevated tended to burn the diodes of the panel... From what I know, that doesn’t happen often anymore and from what they’ve told me, the after-sales service and warranties of Mars Hydro Europe, make it easier for you if you need to ask them to replace the equipment, which didn’t use to happen before and that’s why my purchase wasn’t from stores, but directly with Mars Hydro and if there’s a problem, they’ll send you a new one without asking too many questions and they have this policy now because they are very confident in the product they have in this 2022 series and one or another grower friend who has opted for the 2022 both for the TD600 or the TS1000, have told me that so far, the Mars Hydro product is very, very good... And to finish, that does make me tremendously excited... starting a new stage with LEDs that will serve you, and more in the way I’ve planned and yes... 230 euros already with shipping for two LED panels of 150 watts (and yes, they list them as 150 nominal watts and they are 150 watts), means we will start next week with 300 beautiful watts, giving the "girls" the "little cabinet sun" they need so much. TommyBVRSA75 Day 20...switching from "sun" to the "girls" Two TS1000s at 150w, for complete coverage of the grow area. The era of Blurple is over, and we’re starting with full spectrum Sunlight. The measurements are unbeatable at 1.81 mol of PAR, and let's see how the grows react to the change in spectrums. I would have some fear if we were already ahead of pre-flowering, due to the risk of revegetating, but since we’re still fully in vegetative, we can correct the light stress before it’s too late. New grow moment and a new development paradigm since the Blurple had me a bit annoyed, especially because of the uneven development issue in the first weeks of growth and the squashed appearance of the plants, with such little internode space that even giving LST right now is very complicated. But in a week, we’ll have growth to pull leaves and branches to allow for better light distribution in the grow, and now with the 300w and the lights at full coverage, they won’t lack for growth conditions. TommyBVRSA75 One more week and it's crystal clear... the Mars Hydro TS1000 150w LEDs with each of the grows in direct focus and what we have is something like what you see in the photos. I'm still waiting for them to start the vertical stretch and gain size so they can show the first signs of flowering. But as is clear in the photos, we have a super massive plant, with primary leaves as long as sheets and a huge amount of secondary leaves and branches still under the main leaves. And you ask me "why the hell aren't you doing LST?" And I reply "there's no way to do it because the stems of the primary leaves are super rigid and there's no way to bend them without damaging them. This week I've already had to do something that doesn't usually happen, which is to defoliate a couple of primary leaves, to allow the covered secondary branches and leaves to come to light and to help this pile of leaves take shape, and why is that? Because, for now, my vegetative Lemon Pie is a tremendous pile of leaves for a height that isn't quite "up to par." The grow will have to reach almost 80 centimeters according to my forecast, and for now, we're just over a quarter of the total and I still don't see the central cola developing, and the secondary branches still aren't getting the light they desperately need for the whole grow. It won't be long before I have to defoliate at the base again so that the super massive and very short space between nodes can take shape, and I ask anyone who can read my diary to give me some opinion on how we can balance a grow that at this moment, I don't see with the proportions it should have right now. If we were in flowering, I would say that we've had a revegetation of the plant, but that's not what has happened in this vegetative stage. This grow from the very first hour has had a phenotype where its primary leaves are enormous, and as I've said, possibly the longest Indica leaves since I've been an indoor grower, over six years ago. I have a lot of expectations to see what can happen with this Lemon Pie, and I've seen some diaries where there are grows of this strain that are also tremendous in the dimensions of primary leaves in length, and the strain tends to have a solid and very Bonsai-like appearance. We have the next ten days ahead that will be very particular regarding what the grow can yield in productivity and with that, in the quality of buds. A grow without reasonable secondary growth may show its cola as a reference, but it would also be interesting if its secondary branching could also be a structural point that could allow for the development of long and wide buds, and it seems that it hasn't shown its best side yet. I talked a lot about how the "sister" was the sickly one and that this grow was the one "pulling ahead." As strange as it may sound, now this grow is the one giving me headaches and the "sickly" one is starting to show champion structure. God Jah in command, and in the next diary entry, we should have something clearer...

TommyBVRSA75 Well, ladies and gentlemen... Lemon Pie, 32 days in just like her "sister" in the closet, and today I have to confess something that happened about twelve days ago. Let me recap what happened... almost from the first week, the genetics of the Lemon Pie had and still has some of the stiffest branches and stems I can remember having in a cultivar. Genetically, it has some Indica leaves that are true blankets due to their size, and the stems connecting both branches and primary leaves to its stem are among the most difficult and complicated I've ever had. It wasn't possible then in the second/third week to bend the primary leaves and secondary branches due to their stiffness and abnormal thickness. So, I did what I could, which was to defoliate two of those huge primary leaves, and with that, the secondary branches were left trapped in the shadow of such large leaves. What I did next was what experience had already taught me from the past about developing cannabis cultivars, which was to try, in a very measured way, to bend the secondary branches to make them come out and apply supercropping, a stress technique that I master perfectly, and I don't want to sound immodest. I bent, I bent again, and so on successively, doing these bends to then put a bending clip to direct the branches towards the light and gain lateral vegetative growth space... But as I told you, the Lemon Pie or this particular phenotype has very stiff branches and leaf stems, and with the bending, one quarter of the growth segment of the cultivar broke from the core of the stem... I thought afterwards, I’m going to put adhesive tape on it, and it will recover in a week, but then my idea was that if the "break" of the branch was successful, if after a week I defoliated the primary leaf that was on this branch, a wounded plant would suffer another extreme dose of stress, and that branch would likely atrophy for sure. That broken branch did allow, however, that an important part of the plant and the branches covered by the giant primary leaves would be exposed to light, and the plant could develop in that area. Then, with the same "spirit" that led me to break the branch of that segment of the plant, I tried with extra care to soften the branch and the stem of the primary leaf (just like the one that had broken, but on the opposite side of the plant's lateral) and on that particular branch and leaf, it seemed that the stiffness was even greater than in the "piece" that had broken... in short, two small movements up and down to move the branch and expose it to light, and snapppp... the branch on the opposite side breaks. I was "stunned" and thought, "you've messed it up, champ"... "very simple, you've mutilated a cultivar, for being foolish and thinking you're the owner of all the secrets of cannabis plants, and now, mutilated, it will be compromised for the future... less size, lower production, and most importantly, in ten days, fungi and bacteria will enter the wounds of the stem and kill the plant in no time." So, I had to draw on my knowledge and seal the wounds of the stem in a way I already knew and that had always worked for me, for example, when I do the so-called winter pruning on my outdoor chili peppers, where I cut the branches and put three essential things on the wound so that the wound is not the death of the plants... first, Blackstrap Molasses without sulfur as a preservative, and with that molasses, I cover the holes (wound) in the stems... on top of this covered with molasses, I sprinkle some Trichoderma powder... Trichoderma is the best biological control for fungi that exists, and any pathogenic fungus that could enter and damage the plant's vascular system cannot enter with Trichoderma present... and finally, something that is one of the best healing agents that nature can provide to any living being, which is Aloe Vera gel. In summary, with this molasses/Trichoderma/aloe vera paste, the "holes" opened in the stem were sealed, and the cultivar reacted. There were about 3 to 4 days where, normally, it remained frozen and without evident vertical growth, but very quickly, the space that resulted from removing the branches and stems contributed very quickly to the secondary branches starting to grow and gave it notable lateral and horizontal growth. From a very large number of stunted leaves inside the Lemon Pie bush, the cultivar began to grow with the typical pine shape, and it was possible to alleviate the extreme leaf growth in the vegetative stage that this grow presented. Kind of like saying "sometimes bad things come for all the good," and the broken branches were perhaps one of the best techniques I could apply to this grow. After the "shock" days passed, normalcy returned, the holes in the stem already had a callus forming, and although it may not be as tall as her "sister" who was once the "sickly" one, the Lemon Pie now grows with a structure that promises a very important harvest. With 32 days gone by, I notice, and you can see in the photos that the central cola still hasn't gained horizontal growth... we're still in vegetative, but almost certainly, from the grows I've seen of this Lemon Pie, there’s the possibility of two possible phenotypes in this cultivar, one with more spaced leaves and with buds that are more airy and dispersed (a bit of Sativa inheritance, and let's not forget that this grow is a 50/50 sativa-indica hybrid) or the second possible phenotype, which is a short bush like a "bonsai" filled with leaves, and when it enters flowering, it will double in size and be almost a bud packed in all the spaces between branches and those pesky very stiff primary leaves that are very characteristic of this strain. Well... let's see what the very immediate future holds for us, and for sure, we will have two grows (plus one... which is the surprise grow living in a wooden closet, customized to serve as a grow space). To all the friends, brothers "growers," and the world who love these things about the most beautiful plant in the world, may God Jah always be with you, giving us enlightenment, understanding, and harmony with nature and mankind. TommyBVRSA75 Day 58 and a very good week for Lemon Pie. It reacted perfectly to a significant defoliation, much to relieve the overload of fan leaves (primary) that were having a huge impact on the lower areas of the plant, and due to the conditions of low temperatures and high humidity, the XXL primary leaves that were very characteristic of the vegetative stage of this grow could create conditions for a microclimate conducive to mold. It was significant that the Plagron organic plan, despite giving instructions for the use of its root development and reinforcement product, Power Roots, with the excellent structure that the mycorrhizae and Trichoderma have provided to the grow, it became evident that Power Roots, due to its very solid formula of chelates and perhaps unnecessary nitrogen integration at this stage, was causing tip burn on the leaves, indicating that the nitrogen input was doing more harm than good. With the suppression of Power Roots, everything returned to normal, and now the perfect development of the central cola is very noticeable, and like the grows of this season, they all tend towards purple phenotypes, and with the lower temperatures, as you can see in the photos, the initial structure of the bud already shows purple pistil tips that will surely increase day by day. The flowering stretch makes the grow currently present around 60 centimeters, and from my experience, the grow will settle at almost perfect final heights of 70/75 centimeters, and due to the robust structure of the branches and support, there will be no need for stakes or other ways to support the buds, which will surely be very thick and solid due to the medium insertion of pistils. Once again, 42 Fast Buds in command of super good genetics, and as I had already mentioned, there was a need to do something unusual like a lateral Fimming to allow light in and for the secondary growth to lead the plant to have a perfect shape that will provide high profitability regarding the final yield. Worrisome for the beginning of flowering, what the next few days anticipate in terms of weather, with a temperature that you can see is not ideal, and especially due to the evidence that during the dark period the grow room could reach a very bad 92% Relative Humidity like yesterday. During the light period, the humidity becomes tolerable, hovering around 70-something % RH, which, while not good, is not dramatic. The closet grows, and since we are now in full flowering, are already exposed to 100% of the power of the TS 1000 at 150w from Mars Hydro, and as you can see in the photos, the corners of the closet have the 26w PLED tubes for flowering, so that the less illuminated areas can also develop buds at lower quotas of the plant. I started yesterday with the star product in my opinion, which is the B'Cuzz Blossom Builder liquid line from Atami, which with its PK 18-23 is currently one of the most notable flowering structure development products on the market. For those who are serious about maximizing yield in proportion to what is spent on inputs and lights, this product in conjunction with Delta Nueve as a precursor to flowering is essential for impressive buds in just a few weeks. Not only in quantity but especially in structure, density, and quality of terpenes and resins of the buds. From now on, each week visually will be a beauty to behold, and I invite (those who accompany me in the diaries) to share your critical views on what is presented in the photos. To finish, Lemon Pie and her closet companion are starting to complicate things for me, even in winter and even in low temperatures and high humidity, particularly regarding smell, and despite having already dispersed ONA Gel jars around the house, and since I don't have extraction, the pungent genes of the "skunks" from the genetics are already very noticeable even without buds practically. In a couple of weeks, I'll have to take extra care for any neighbors with sensitive noses, and I’ll surely have to light a good half dozen sandalwood incense cones in the mornings (because they burn slower) and strategically disperse them around the house before heading to work, as nothing in nature can surpass the smell of sandalwood incense to mask the sweetness of the "skunk." The closet room is an interior room, with no windows and no exit to the area of the house that leads to the door, so I will do as always, to ensure that not a hint of any suspicious aroma is noticeable. TommyBVRSA75 8 weeks (approximately 60 days) It would be super easy for the strength of quality to end up prevailing, and the little friend Lemon Pie Auto from 42 Fast Buds keeps gaining every day in its flowering phase, unmistakable signs of the "little" quality of its phenotype and everything regarding the incredible "display" of terpenes, pistils, and resins that will be the "trademarks" of this strain. Now, the variation it presents compared to its cabinet mate is very noticeable, and both germinated on the same day; on the same day, they were moved to Riot Cubes and rooted, and on the same day, as seedlings fully developed, they went to their pots. Both started with organic Plagron, but while the Purple Skunk didn't do well with the organic and needed a flush after 11 days and to switch to "mineral" with Gold Label, the Lemon Pie stuck with the organic from Plagron, and from its beginnings, there was even a need to stunt its growth. Let's not forget that at almost 4 weeks, I had to make a very drastic decision, which involved doing a mechanical "Fimming" on the two side branches (that is, breaking two of the primary growth branches by mechanical action), as the growth strength it presented would surely cause the side branches to limit the available space not only of the "companion" Purple Skunk but even its own growth. Doing such a high-stress training was an incredible risk, but what was achieved with that Fimming was to push the growth areas to parts of the grow cabinet where growth could be controlled and provide the necessary vigor for the cultivar to present itself at the point it is today. The Lemon Pie will tend to take more weeks of growth and flowering than the Purple Skunk, and that is very noticeable by the current state of the pistils, still very white and daily spreading throughout the branches and bud structures (not just in the central cola, but throughout the grow). So, the maturity of flowering is somewhat delayed compared to its cabinet mate, and based on what it shows, we will have a super producer of very high genetic level and an unbeatable phenotype with the Lemon Pie. If the companion is scheduled to finish on day 70/75, we have the Lemon Pie for almost day 90 or more, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to mark the flush in just about 3 weeks from today. The photos you can see indicate that a central cola is being structured that will be long and heavy, and there is a whole lateral structure that is very broad, where the insertion of the pistils for buds occurs very low, so the buds from the lateral branches will also be very large, dense, and wide. For all the reasons I mentioned, and based on previous experiences, it is very easy to realize that the Lemon Pie will be a super producer, and once again, what the genetics of 42 Fast Buds anticipate ends up happening. With the strength of the LED lights I have this season, it will be very logical that the mark of 2g/m² will be a reality, and I won't be surprised if, based on what the photos show us, the mark of 350/400g/plant will be a perfectly achievable goal. For now, the Lemon Pie doesn't impress with its smell, and even running my fingers over the pistils, it isn't very sensitive yet, the Limonene, which is the terpene that gives the strain its name (even though the only time I smoked Lemon Pie, it tasted more like mint tea leaves than lemon). As a good example of material from 42 Fast Buds, the quality and health that the cultivars from this bank usually present are remarkable. Leaves of immaculate green, stems with a solid structure and perfect disposition, and if anything is missing, it’s the perfect structure of the Indica, which is very robust and in the shape of a "Christmas tree," with its impressive central cola and, due to the applied Fimming, with four to six symmetrical lateral branch structures... in other words, a true apex of the virtue of a cannabis plant in all its glory. In a week, ten days, the maturation of the buds will be perfectly clear, with a much denser expression of the "flowers," and a very significant development of sugar leaves and resin glands. According to the maturation, the Lemon Pie will tend to present purple pistils and a range of varied colors, with yellows, greens, oranges, and reds... 42 Fast Buds usually has their bud photos look very much like what we get in our "grows." God Jah, always in command, giving us infinite wisdom in every cultivation experience. The patience and humility to accept mistakes as lessons for the future and the perfection of the practice. Surely, with each passing day, a greater love for the most beautiful plant in the universe, and how it turns out to be much more than just a plant, but a higher form of understanding of our potential. TommyBVRSA75 Another week and outstanding notes for the enormous genetics of 42 Fast Buds and their Lemon Pie. Robust, solid in structure, with leaf insertions and secondary stamens that promise a high-level lateral development and all the arrangement of pistils that will form exemplary quality buds. There’s something in the genetics of 42 Fast Buds that guarantees the potential these perfect hybrids express. So far, there isn’t the exuberance of smell like the other seasonal companions, and these pistils developed in huge quantities are a preview of perfectly outlined buds with a dense structure, and the maturation will try to bring precious nuances between purple and orange.
