April 18, 2023 Skywalker OG: Day: 88 Wedding Glue: Day: 81 This week will focus on Wedding Glue as she has around 3 total weeks left before harvest. This week also starts Nirvana 4 ml/gal and Overdrive 2ml/gal nutrients. She has really thick tops and as I had hoped, are taking over the whole plant. I may have to do a light defoliation sooner rather than later. I'll assess today and decide what to do for tomorrow. Skywalker OG is going to be harvested tomorrow morning I think. She doesn't have quite enough cloudy trichomes. I noticed the trichomes are stacking on top of each other on some of the buds. I believe they are new trichomes and not matured ones. Either way, I can see the older ones and they are just about ready. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.5° RH: 52.3% VPD: 1.41 kPa Dark Tent Environment: Temp: 68° RH: 50% VPD: 1.17 April 19, 2023 Skywalker OG: Chopped: Day 0 Wet weight: 1.3 lbs 10 to 14 day dry. Skywalker OG was chopped today as you can see. She is hanging whole for the next 2 weeks. The whole harvested plant was 20.8 oz. Based on the common practice of estimated dry weight, I took out 85% of the wet weight leaving 15% dry weight. The estimated total is 3.12 oz of dried and cured bud. Wedding Glue looks great! The bottle of nirvana came in today so she got a full gallon. 3/4 gallon in the reservoir and 1/4 gallon top feed. She is covered in frost and sticky and smells great! I ended up taking out some of the lower buds and some leaves that were blocking air flow. I know it's a little late for snippy snips, but they were taking up energy that could be utilized elsewhere. Not to mention, she has so much foliage and branches covered in buds, losing a few auxiliary nodes won't bother her. Not much anyway. I also took a few of the upper canopy leaves. The ones really overlapping and the ones getting essentially crushed by other leaves and buds. It's definitely tight in there. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.2° RH: 50.5% VPD: 1.40 kPa April 20, 2023 Happy 420 everyone! Hope the smoke is good and the snacks are sweet. Skywalker OG: Day 1 Drying Wedding Glue is looking better than ever. She put on some heft last night. Maybe the new nutrients I added are working that quickly? It's great! The foliage is super lush. She has an even sweeter smell too. Does anyone know how fast nutrients begin to work? Anyway, she seems to be drinking pretty fast. Her soil moisture went from 60% at fill down to 48%. She also went through about a liter of water from the reservoir. Very nice. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74° RH: 50.8% VPD: 1.38 kPa April 21, 2023 Skywalker OG Day 2 Drying weight: 12 oz. Wedding Glue is so smelly and sticky. I can't help but admire her in all her frosty glory. She's also cruising through her water. Fantastic! Buds are absolutely huge compared to her size. Cleared out a couple leaves under the canopy that were never going to see the light of grow. She is all bud and foliage. I can't wait to see how she turns out. 2 and a half weeks left. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.6° RH: 52% VPD: 1.42 kPa April 22, 2023 Skywalker OG Day 3 Drying Weight: 8.5 oz I read that the best way to know when your plants are dry is by weight. When your plant reaches 25% to 30% of it's wet weight, it should be dry and ready for trimming. That's what I read at least. It'll be easy enough to know. Just do the snap test and see if it matches up. I'm using a hanging fish scale. Kinda wish it measured in grams. I'll find one eventually. But ounces is fine. Just a rough estimate of total plant weight. So I'll check at 6.25 oz. Then at 5.2 oz. Wedding Glue looks fantastic! She is getting super dense now and her pistils are starting to turn orange. I also finally figured out when to start flushing. Or what the "last week" is. After the pistils turn 60% orange, then start flushing for a week? I think that's it. Based on common information I found throughout the interwebs, flowering takes around 6 weeks with an autoflower. Up to 10 weeks I believe. We are in the middle of week 4 now. So another 10 days then she should be ready for flushing? This is all in theory, mind you. Anyway, she's looking great! Tons of frost all over the place. The leaves are getting dark and look like they are about to turn to a purple of some sort. No issues whatsoever. Let's hope for some beautiful harvest colors. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.6° RH: 54.3% VPD: 1.35 kPa April 23, 2023 Skywalker OG Day 4 Drying Weight 7.3 oz. I believe I'm correct in saying that the first couple days of drying is when they lose most of their weight. Good to know. Wedding Glue needed a watering today. She got 1 liter of top feed and the rest of the gallon in the reservoir. I saw a couple more of those tiny flies, so I got out my foliar bug spray stuff. A couple mists under the canopy and on the soil. Should do it. When the top dries out a bit, I'll do a diatomaceous earth sprinkle. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.1° RH: 57% VPD: 1.25 kPa April 24, 2023 Skywalker OG Day 5 Drying Weight 6.5 oz. I took a second weight reading yesterday afternoon. She read 6.5 oz. So I believe she is in the most important part of drying. This is when she starts to really push the moisture out of the buds. The environment is nearly perfect. Dry System Environment: Temp: 69° RH: 58% VPD: 1.02 kPa Wedding Glue is frosty and fat as ever. She still has a good 2 weeks left. 1 week of flowering and 1 week of flush. I'll also do a defoliation... A much REQUIRED defoliation a few days before she gets the chop. Pistils are around 15% orange. And she has more trichome production ahead of her. My real question is, will she get some purple leaves going on? Or is this a strictly the green phenome and will it turn purple after the flush? I haven't touched the buds at all, so I don't know how dense they are. There's definitely too much foliage to really see what's happening. I do know that if I touch a single bud, my hands will be sticky for hours. Hell, I get sticky pulling out a fan leaf or 2. Anyway, a natural grow with zero human contact. I have gloves for when it's time for harvest. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.3° RH: 55.1% VPD: 1.27 kPa

Best to get a light meter. Photone or tentbuddy. Not sure what works on what phone but look into a meter for sure . Tentbuddy gives u outlines for veg and flower along with a VPD Calculator. It's hard to just say "lift it 24in above" the light meter will get u in the best range.

Why is my Wedding Glue Auto so short? She's healthy as can be. The issue here is that she is in day 30 with zero signs of upward growth and only 5.5" tall. Can I fix this somehow? Huge leaves though. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Look at the diary to see.

She is growing slowly.. But, I can see she's only around pushing up her 5 or so set of nodes. She will get bigger. She's just slow going atm.. had the same thing with my lemon pie and took her ages to flip. She'll put on most of her height during pre flower. Idk her traits but she looks mainly indica with her big fat leafs. Indicas grow much lower and have more girt. Sativas grow higher that have less girt. But, sometimes plants especially autos are unpredictable. Wouldnt worry about it to much. Good growing

After much research, I couldn't find anything on how to properly handle a really short plant. Does anyone have a thought about this? Or how to induce extra stretch? This is for documentation and research for this particular grow situation. Please see week 5 entries. Thanks all!

Looking for suggestions and opinions on "light defoliation". What percentage of leaves are removed during a light defoliation? This is for my short bushy Wedding Glue. Should I just remove the biggest fan leaves and call it a day? Thanks all!

No need for defol right now. You’re at a critical point you don’t want to hinder anything. You have a great even canopy. Let her be.

I'd say leave her be my guy. You need those leaves for photosynthesis. To make those nice beautiful flowers! Besides she doesn't really have an abundance of leaves from what I can see. I hope this helps.

I've always wondered this and never asked. Should all cannabis plants go through senescence? I only ask because I've only ever had 1 plant that went through it. Am I harvesting too early? Or does it even matter? These are autoflower grows.

If you're nailing the nutrition, don't do a pre-harvest flush, and the genetics don't support it, then there's a good chance you won't see senescence and there's nothing wrong with that. As long as you're happy with the trichomes on your grow, then no one can you tell it's the wrong time to harvest. There's a lot of debate about "flushing" and what it can or can't do for your plant (including a lot of recent research on this). Many top professional farms don't flush at all and as a result they see little to no senescence in their crop. That said, I always flush - probably due to habit and/or bro-science - and I do always see a "fade" as a result. I've no way or telling you if this actually improved the smoke or quality though. Latest research suggests that it doesn't really help, but that probably won't stop me doing it every harvest! 😂

I normally don't ask more than one question a week, but I believe I'm at a critical point with my wedding glue. She hasn't grown at all in the last 2 days at 14.5". I haven't defoliated yet because of stretch, but I think she's done. Should I defoliate or wait a few more days?

That is helpful @Prilyfe13. I think we can definitely narrow it down to two things - a lack of Calcium (which matches your description of brown dots progressively getting worse and becoming more blocky), and possible light burn. If the issue is only affecting the very top of the plant nearest the light, then I believe you may have hit the nail on the head with light burn. Looking at your photo dated 19th March, the issue wasn't present in it's current form then, but I can see the sides of the leaves starting to curl up. This is THE classic light burn symptom. It begins on the sides of the leaves (rather than the tips, like nutrient burn) and then progresses inwards. But, you've obviously described a classic calcium deficiency as well, as I said... so perhaps it's six of one and half-dozen of the other! When it comes to living soil, I am certainly no expert, but my understanding is that you don't generally need to add too much in the way of nutrients as this is mostly in the soil already. Hopefully someone with more experience than me in this field will be able to help you... That said, if you don't get any more expert advice, I would probably err on the side of caution and raise/dim the lights (as you have done) and then maybe incorporate some Cal-Mag into the next few feeds, just to be sure it's getting enough. I don't think I've ever seen calcium or magnesium toxicity myself, so if you're using the small recommended doses, I can't see that it would cause any harm even if it doesn't need it. RE: Fish shit - I don't think this is the cause. So long as you're only using the recommended dosages, it should be fine. RE: an equipment list - don't even get us started or it will never end lol. All you technically need is air, water, soil and the sun... that doesn't explain why my spare room looks like the inside of Area 51's weapons testing facility. 😂 PH and TDS/EC meters are great, but I managed to grow successfully for years without them - particularly growing in soil which is much more forgiving. Its the same with basically every growing accessory I own. The main thing, to me, is managing the growing environment: keeping humidity high in veg and low in flower, keeping temps in the ideal range in the day and at night, etc. Those are the hardest things to do as you might be fighting against building itself, weather and geography etc, which are not battles that can be easily won. In future, if you want to keep your plants smaller and spread out the canopy more to avoid light burn and increase the PPFD or what would otherwise be lower branches, I would recommend that you start practicing LST or SCROG'ing, but that's more a technique than an accessory - other than the plant ties you'll need to make LST'ing easy. 😁 Good luck!

Hi, I follow @LegacyMarketFarm here and on you tube. He indicated there should be final defoliation 3rd week after flowers start. This forces energy to all remaining bud sites. I did this with my plants to keep down any mold issues since I couldn't control humidity. .I will say, however, there are many different thoughts on the 3rd defoliation. Happy growing and have fun 👍

So I have a bottom feed wick system. Works great, but now my plant is dry on the bottom and seems to have slowed down to a trickle of water uptake. What does this mean? The soil is also drying out pretty quickly as well. See Diary for further details. What do I do? Thanks!

If this was my grow, I would be watering from the top since she's not taking it up from the wicking and is drying out.... the last thing you want is for your entire plant to turn crispy. Water until there's some runoff and then wait to see if the runoff is soaked back up into the pot - if it is, give more water until it stops soaking it back up and then throw away the excess... Good luck!

What do I do with this overly leafy plant? I'm pretty sure the foliage caused very airy buds and tops. What should I do here? Major defoliation before 48 hours of dark? Leave it, cut the branches off when harvested and run a dry trim or with this should I run wet trim? Thanks!

This plant is looking beautiful! I would not recommend to defoliate this late in the growing phase. Just make sure that there will be enough moving air around this plant to prevent fungals. The only advice that I can give to you for this plant is to cut down the nutrients a bit. You are giving too much. 75% from what you are giving now is more then enough till harvest.
