Introduction - Week 01 Summary - Ensign's log, stardate 100753.58, Throughout the week, it was mainly basic refilling of the humidifier. Did a couple of IPM sprayings of Tweetmint which has seemed to have reduced the brown dust build up around EB1. Nice! Will most likely spray more next week. Also increased the PPFD to around 200 μmol/m2/s Not much else. The seedling in EB1 is recovering from the mite damage and new growth is looking a lot better. Overall a pretty simple grow week! Steady as she grows Ensign. 🖖 [START OF WEEK 01] ========================================================== WEEK 01 - Seedling 02/21/23 → 02/27/23 This Week's Estimated Goals ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: 12 mol/m2/d PPFD: 185 μmol/m2/s VPD: 0.5-1.0 kPa This Week's Meter Readings & Averages ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DLI: 13.09 mol/m2/d PPFD: 202 μmol/m2/s VPD: 1.25 kPa Soil %: [17.8, 25.4, 19.8, 25.6] ========================================================== Day 01 - Monday - 02/21/23 - Total Days: 007 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 76.0°F [24.4°C] - Humidity: 58.2% - VPD: 1.25 kPa - Soil %: [18, 26, 17, 26] ----------------------------------- - [09:22]: Good morning little ones! --- Quick morning check up! --- The seedling in EB2 is now fully uncurled and looking nice and happy! --- Wow! --- So far so good! --- Don't frack this up Ensign. --- Misted the dome of EB2 with distilled water (EB1's dome was still pretty wet). --- Vents fully open for EB1, vents slightly open for EB2. - [21:24]: Good evening my ladies! --- Both seedlings are looking great! --- The seedling in EB1 has definitely gotten taller! One of her leaves looks a bit gnarly. Hopefully new growth will be healthier. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- The brownish dust particles are still covering everything around the seedling in EB1 and is starting to pile up. --- Tomorrow plan to vacuum the tent. Will also do an IPM spraying of Tweetmint. Day 02 - Tuesday - 02/22/23 - Total Days: 008 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 75.0°F [23.9°C] - Humidity: 54.2% - VPD: 1.32 kPa - Soil %: [18, 26, 19, 26] ----------------------------------- - [09:28]: Morning checkup! --- Nice! Both are growing along and looking great! --- Okay! --- Before lights out, --- Time to clean the tent a bit and do an IPM spraying! - [09:40]: Filled a measuring cup with a cup of distilled water. --- Added 2mL of Tweetmint --- Mixed the solution and poured it straight into a spray bottle. --- Removed the humidity domes and gave them each a quick cleaning. --- Also vacuumed the tent. --- The dust particles were localized around EB1, so made sure to vacuum both the top mulch cover along with the floor of the tent. --- Once everything was vacuumed, - [09:49]: Misted the entire top of the mulch cover. --- Gave each grow bag a misting as well (~5 mists each). --- Even sprayed the floor and sides of each EarthBox. --- Also misted each of the cleaned humidity domes with the IPM solution before placing them back on. --- Vents fully opened. - [16:11]: Good evening my ladies! --- Nice! Both are looking great! --- EB1 seedling is clearly the tallest (she looks well over 2" tall). Also one of her first set of true leaves is a bit mangled, and I can clearly see leaf damage. This was probably from the over population of mites (I think). But she's recovering nicely! --- Placed the humidity domes back on. --- Vents fully open for EB1, vents slightly open for EB2. --- A bit of a rough start, but both seedlings are now fully growing and looking great! --- Also the brown dust is still present, but seems to be less than before. Will do another IPM spraying in a couple days. --- The EB2 seedling is looking incredible! She looks both perky and happy! --- Did not mist anything. --- Placed the humidity domes back on. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). - [20:34]: Took a PPFD reading. --- Both seedlings were was at around 152 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 9.85 mol/m2/d - [20:37]: Adjusted the environmental controls a bit. --- Within the AC Infinity App, --- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Schedule for the grow light. --- Increased the MAX level from 1 to 2 - [20:40]: Took a PPFD reading. --- Both seedlings were was at around 202 μmol/m2/s which gives a DLI of 13.09 mol/m2/d --- At the current light intensity, the is now pulling 204.8W (from 149.7W) Day 03 - Wednesday - 02/23/23 - Total Days: 009 ----------------------------------- Daily Averages - Temps: 74.4°F [23.6°C] - Humidity: 56.1% - VPD: 1.25 kPa - Soil %: [18, 26, 20, 26] ----------------------------------- - [09:21]: Quick morning check up! --- Both girls are looking great! --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Each seedling is getting taller! --- Grow strong little ones! That's an order! 🖖 - [09:56]: Adjusted the environmental controls. --- Within the AC Infinity App, --- Adjusted the 'Vegetative [18/6]' Automation Schedule for the Exhaust Fan. --- Lowered the exhaust fan's humidity HIGH/LOW values from 70%/45% to 70%/35% - [21:22]: Good evening my ladies! --- Nice! --- The seedling in EB1 is a bit droopy but less than earlier. Still looking good to me! --- Wow! The seedling in EB2 is looking happy! --- Misted both seedlings with some distilled water. --- Covered both seedlings with dry domes. --- Vents slightly opened. --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). --- Plan to do an IPM cleaning and spraying tomorrow morning. Both seedlings seem green and healthy! --- Also both local temps and RH are looking perfect! --- A local temp of 79 F and an RH of 72% gives a VPD of 0.95 kPa --- Refilled the humidifier with distilled water and Hydrogen Peroxide (~20mL). - [20:13]: Took height readings! --- The seedling in EB1 was about 2.25" tall! --- The seedling in EB2 was about 1.5" tall! --- The seedlings were about 46.5" away from the grow light. --- This is the farthest I've ever had my light from the seedlings. --- The Mars Hydro FC-6500 is a huge improvement over the old TSW-2000! She can really crank out the PARs! Curious to see how she does during veg and flower. --- Right now I'm just stoked that both seedlings are growing steady without any yellowing! --- Also the mites seem to be under control. --- There's now little to no brown dust on EB1! --- Nice! --- Overall an easy grow week! Great diary! Love the info. I too use earthboxes and Build a Soil nutrients. I noticed your Ecowitt moisture meter data is at 19-25%. My earthbox without the reservoir filled is reading 40-42%. If you use your fingers to test the area, are you finding the soil moist one inch below the surface? Just curious! Good luck with your grow, you are using the best of the best and I followed you to watch your progress!

@Ensign420, All great questions... I would wait until the moisture drops after top drench to fill the reservoir. I look to see if the reservoir is dry and if so, will fill reservoir a few days after last top drench. I use rainwater. I found that RO and distilled water contain absolutely nothing for plants. I noticed my plants really like rainwater. So, I set up a rain barrel to harvest water. Rainwater is near neutral PH with little or no particulates. I measured it as low as 5 ppm. Much better than the wasteful RO water. I do use distilled water for my humidifiers to reduce the white calcium/sodium dust that is caused by using tap water. Tap water is fine if you have decent water without too much sodium. I usually do not add additives to the reservoir, preferring a soil drench technique if adding anything. I have added Yah Whey to the reservoir with spectacular results, but much reduced dosage, say one ounce for entire reservoir, but very infrequently. I never PH my water. Microbes take care of all that for me, for which I am profoundly grateful. I would not use a wetting agent for the reservoir at all, just for top drench when you want to add additives such as BuildABloom which I highly recommend as a bloom booster, top drench that onto the soil. Nor would I add Mycrobe complete. I worry a lot about anaerobic bacteria in the reservoir as there is little aeration that occurs in the reservoir proper, so I try to keep it clean. Hope this helps. Great questions!

@MarcGrows, Nice! Out of all of my EarthBox grows, still have yet to fully fill the reservoir. But plan to give it a try soon. Just finished top watering today (reservoir is currently dry): - The larger plant is at 31% with the soil being at 44% - The smaller plant is at 33% with the soil being at 35% Since I just top watered today, guess I should wait a few days before filling the reservoirs right? Also wondering, when you're filling the reservoir all the way with 2-3gal, do you use tap water or distilled water? Do you add any additives to the reservoir water (Yah-Whey, Quillaja, Mycrobe Complete, etc)? Do you pH the water?

@Ensign420, my results with the earthbox have been spectacular in the past, and I really do nothing, that's why I love using them. I top drench for the first 4-5 weeks until roots have developed long enough to drink the water in the reservoir. When I do fill the reservoir, I fill it completely until water escapes from the overflow. Usually, 2-3 gallons. I then watch the water level until it is dry from viewing the fill tube. I usually wait one or two days before refilling the empty reservoir again. After initially filling the reservoir, I then top water only for a feeding such as BuildABloom or ferments. I wait to soil drench when the reservoir is empty. I do not have to feed her a lot as I top dress shortly after she drinks the entire reservoir for pre-flower feeding. I usually cut out ferments in flower. Currently, my Ecowitt moisture is at 53% with water in the reservoir. I have not customized the MULT_CH Soil settings. No need to apologize! We use the earthbox for simplicity in our busy lives. I also re-amended my soil before the grow. One of the ingredients I have never used before to re-amend is basalt. Known for its mineralization and paramagnetic energy, it could be why my moisture meter states a higher percentage. It sure conditioned my media making it fluffy, providing a texture I never experienced before.

Excellent detail. I just bought the Apogee MQ-610 ePar that measures up to 730nm. I should've spent the money on that a long time ago. My lights were too close last season.
