December 13, 2023 Day 99 This weeks is a busy week. We'll be harvesting, cleaning up, finishing and moving plants around. I'll be bringing in a Gorilla Cookies from my overflow tent when I harvest Strawberry Gorilla 1. Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is just about ready for harvest. I believe I could harvest today, but I'll hold off for a day or two, just in case. I'm letting her dry out now just before harvest. I won't be doing a dark period though. No space to do it. I'll give it a shot anyway, but I don't think I can fit both the Strawberry Gorilla in the overflow tent and this one going in. The 5 gallon container makes it not work. Number 2 has to be stressed out. She has to be. But I don't know what stress looks like apparently. I may harvest her as well this week. I don't think she is ready yet though. I may harvest because of the bud rot I cut out. Just in case it tries to come back. I don't think it will though. Either way, I'll make that decision on the next couple of days. I dumped a gallon of plain water in her soil today. I was going to let her dry out completely, but I want to salvage as much as I can just in case she needs more time. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is looking absolutely fantastic. Her buds are getting fatter and heavier everyday now. She still has a good week or two in flower. Then two weeks of flush. She's going to need a reservoir refill tomorrow morning I think. Number 2 is ridiculous. Her tops are turning into massive colas. There's so many it looks like a sea of bud. Leaves are there, but they are being overrun. She got a full gallon today. Yet another gallon. With recharge. She's getting more thirsty now. Her reservoir was also empty, so I refilled that as well. Talk about taking in well over a gallon of feed. I see this as a very good thing. It means I'll get even better colas. She still has a good 2 weeks left of Big Bud. After that, I'll switch over to Overdrive. She had a couple dead leaves in the lower canopy. So they were removed. Everything else looks absolutely amazing. Not a thing wrong with her. She has about three weeks left of flower. Then a certain 2 weeks of flush. Especially with a plant so big. The countdown starts now. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.8Β° RH: 47.4% VPD: 1.46 kPa Update: I decided to move Strawberry Gorilla 1 to the overflow tent. In it's place I put the Gorilla Cookies from the overflow to here. I'll be running 48 hours of dark and then harvest. She's ready. She is actually joining the Strawberry Gorilla in there for harvest time. Can't wait. The arrangement in the tent is about the same. Strawberry Gorilla 2 is in the back still. But I switched buckets. Gorilla Cookies 1 has a 5 gallon bucket that lifted it about 4" more. The small 2 gallon bucket is under the new Gorilla Cookies giving it roughly the same light exposure if not a little more than that of the Overflow Tent. She also seems to have a bit more space. Not much, but a bit and the light penetration is significantly better I think. December 14, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Number 1 is in her first 24 hours of dark. However, I forgot to turn the timer off and the light was on from 6 am to 7 am. I'll be harvesting tomorrow afternoon at some point. Dark Tent Environment: Temp: 68.5Β° RH: 44.5% VPD: 1.33 kPa Number 2 was infected pretty bad. So I pulled her and tossed her. Sad, but she was the smallest anyway. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 looks fantastic! Her buds are getting even heavier and denser. The main canopy is starting to bulk up more as well. Her reservoir was empty as I thought. However, she still had plenty of moisture so no need to top feed. I might add a liter of water with recharge in it, but I doubt it. Looking great! More orange pistils as well. I'm just waiting for them to start shrivelling up. That should take the rest of this week and a bit into next week. Number 2 is a beast as always. She stopped drinking from the reservoir again. But she also hasn't cleared out the soil water. Most likely tomorrow or later today if she dips below 18%. With Both of the Strawberry Gorillas out of the tent, there's more space for the lower fan to circulate the air better. It also made it easier to bring in the Gorilla Cookies from the Overflow Tent in. I'll continue recording it's progress in the Overflow Diary. Anyway, Gorilla Cookies 2 is stunning. Her colas are growing super fast and stacking like mad. The problem I have is that I'm not tall enough to really see the top of the plant. But from what I can see, there is a lot of foliage still, but there's so many colas, I expect there to be a lot of leaves. She's starting to give off a beautiful aroma. Sweet and a little spicy. I haven't noticed mint yet, but I'm sure it will come through in time. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.1Β° RH: 47.7% VPD: 1.37 kPa December 15, 2023 Day 101 Strawberry Gorilla Harvest Strawberry Gorilla: HARVEST DAY! I'll update in the harvest report. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is looking fantastic. Her buds are fat and heavy. More orange pistils, I think I'll start to flush when I start seeing her trichomes. So maybe ten days. No watering needed today. Honestly, this specific plant has had an active wick system for nearly the whole grow without any issues. Amazing! Number 2 is beastly as always. Her buds are building more and more. It's insane. I'd say we will be flushing in about three weeks. Well, two and a half. She needed a top feed today. No recharge. The reservoir is a bit slow to empty, so she must be having some trouble getting the wicks to stay moist again. It should bounce back tomorrow. I cannot express how many tops this plant has. There are buds from the very top to well under the SCroG net with a huge concentration of buds at the net. It's crazy. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9Β° RH: 47.0% VPD: 1.48 kPa December 16, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 1 Drying Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 looks absolutely fantastic. More orange pistils and fatter buds. What more could I ask for? Well, a 7 ft plant with 6 lb of weed on it, but I grow indoors. Lol. Anyway, she's good on water. Maybe a reservoir top off tomorrow. She didn't shed any leaves today, so that's fine. I'd also like to mention the anchors I set up. She seems to be happier with them in place. I don't know why I think that, but it just looks better in some way. Number 2 is.... I don't have words. Awed to giggles. Every time I open my tent and see her, I laugh. It's just that amazing to me. The height is impressive for a shorter tent, and the sea of tops... Just wow. Maybe this will end up being a normal thing, but I still can't get over how amazing this plant is. Buds are still stacking and getting dense. These are still growing buds. We haven't even started to swell up yet. That should start next week. No water needed today. She will definitely need a top feed tomorrow though. The reservoir is working, but not at full speed like she was the other day. Oh well, can't go back now. Just work with what I've got. I pulled out a couple dead leaves. Just stuck in the lower canopy. That's about it for today. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.8Β° RH: 49.0% VPD: 1.37 kPa December 17, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 2 Drying. Temp and RH are in range. Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 has nearly all orange pistils now. Bright orange. Very pretty and there's tons of them. None have shrivelled up yet and I checked the trichomes. Nearly all clear. I'd say another few days to get enough cloudy to start flushing. Buds look great. Getting heavier and denser. She has a beautiful aroma. Sweet and a bit spicy. It's refreshing and heady at the same time. Wonderful. She got a full gallon reservoir top off today. I'd say three days on this gallon. Hopefully two days. Number 2 is just packing more stacks. The tallest tops have the longest internodal spacing and there still isn't any stem left to see. They are also bulking up. Not swelling yet, but still stacking and getting super bulky from it. I can't wait to see how dense these colas come out. She needed a gallon top feed as I new she would and also a reservoir refill. That's two gallons in two days. She's getting super thirsty. I think the start of next week I'll switch to Overdrive and take out the Big Bud. Then two weeks of Overdrive before a two week flush. So a total of 4 weeks and 2 days until my estimated harvest time. It could be longer, but hopefully it's right on time. 8 weeks total of flower. They say to harvest, but I don't count the flush stage. I don't think it was meant to be that way. I could harvest in a couple weeks, but it wouldn't be a good idea. 4 weeks and a bountiful and potent harvest. She had a couple dead leaves to pull out of the canopy today. Only a couple so not bad. Anyway, this is the time where it's more of an observe and watch stage. She will finish stacking and then not much of anything to do except water and keep her free of dead leaves. No defoliation, no pruning. Hell, I'm not even moving her to get a better position. I'm just leaving her completely alone. Unless of course she needs something. But I don't think she will. I wish I could rotate her though. I'd love to get the two sides against the walls to have some open space. That would give me a full plant with decent lower buds. I may be able to do that in a couple weeks. We shall see. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.4Β° RH: 46.1% VPD: 1.47 kPa December 18, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 3 Drying Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is starting to weigh some branches down. Happily I can tie them up if need be. No water needed today. Actually, she didn't seem to take any in from yesterday. We shall see what's happening in the next couple of days. Only a couple leaves shed today. One was me reaching for the other one. I brushed it and it fell. Number 2 is also starting to weigh a couple branches on the very outside down. Not much, but enough for me to keep an eye on one in particular. I may have to tie that one to the trellis. The rest seem to be held pretty well in place. At least that's until the real weight starts packing on. We will see then. I may still have to buy some of the disposable netting. Just to drape it over the canopy and hold all the outside branches in place. Although, I won't be complaining if they lean a bit and open up the canopy some. So her watering is a bit finicky at the moment. The wick system is inactive again. However, I think it's because I haven't watered to runoff. Maybe I will later today. She will definitely need another gallon today. If I could I would remove the water from the reservoir and top feed it to her. But I think I'll reactivate the wick system with the runoff. We'll see what happens. I think 1.5 gallons should do the trick. But the reservoir is still very full. I may have to syphon some out if I go this route. Maybe I'll wait for the reservoir to drain a bit and only give the single gallon later today. This is a wonderful problem to have, but when I lift the pot to check her weight, the plant itself is a chore to lift, then I need to differentiate the plant weight from the container weight. I think I've got I'd down, but getting the whole thing up in the air is difficult. Lol. Such a large plant. Her buds are dense already. And I mean DENSE. Super tight budlets are covering every cola and will certainly be a spectacle when finished. Update: I finally decided to decorate my ladies. How festive! Check out the pics. Beautiful. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.3Β° RH: 48.9% VPD: 1.40 kPa December 19, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 4 Drying Gorilla Cookies: Number 1 is looking great. Flushing will start any day now. I just need her to show about half cloudy trichomes. All of her pistils are orange now. However, they are pretty far from shrivelling up. In theory, they should shrink over the next couple weeks. Her buds are dense and heavy. Even the lower branches with less than ideal buds are getting weighed down. Also, her main top is massive. I'm hoping this is an example of what to expect from The Beast. She doesn't have any main tops. Just a sea of colas. Let's hope all of them get this big. Honestly, they are shaping up to be pretty huge. She needs no water today. Only one shed leaf. Number 2 is looking great! Colas are getting bigger, she has great color. No stress or anything like that. Just a very happy and healthy plant. The reservoir is about half full now, so the wicks did turn back on with yesterday's top feed. She's about half way through yesterday's gallon. And with the active wick system, she will be perfectly ready for a gallon tomorrow with Recharge. I'll be replacing Big Bud with Overdrive tomorrow. That is a two week nutrient. The dose will be 5 ml/gal. Nothing to be done today though. She needs no water, no trimming, nothing. However, I would like to note that the top of the canopy has way too many leaves covering lower buds. I'm not really sure what to do about it. Firstly, I can't reach most of the leaves without pressing against the rest of the plant. Second, it's WAY too late into flower to start defoliation. Maybe I'll wait for the last week of her life span and defoliate the whole plant. I read that doing so in the last week will cause more trichomes. I just have to wait for her to recover before I harvest. At least from what I've read. So I'll give that a shot. I may do some more research. Or ask a question. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.9Β° RH: 47.2% VPD: 1.42 kPa

Did I over water this plant? The other 5 are perfectly fine. Just this one. I may have over watered during the transplant. I'm not sure. Just plain distilled water. Same soil across the board for all plants. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.

Como se han estirado en una semana! 😍 Ese entrenamiento tiene buena pinta, yo creo que no va a ser necesario el SCROG
Prilyfe13
Prilyfe13
@nonick123, I agree totally. The SCROG is just a backup. Training definitely helps with branch strength. But too heavy buds would be good too.
