January 17, 2024 Day 134 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 8 Curing Number 2: Captains Log: We are in week 19 of this missions grow. We finally see the end of the line and it's coming fast. Mission Report: Colas are getting too heavy. They are almost all leaning over. I even tried to readjust the plant with the net and brace them that way. It worked kinda. The left side straightened up a bit but then the right side started to lean more. I may adjust it back to where I had it before. Everything was leaning equally. I just ordered another SCroG net, but this one is disposable. It's honestly just to keep the branches from leaning too much. The whole plant covered should hold all the branches and colas in place. More orange pistils coming in now and looking great! I didn't bother checking trichomes. I already know it's time for flush and she definitely has a couple weeks to go. She got a gallon top feed of plain water today with a tiny bit of runoff. The reservoir is about half empty now. I expect it to dry up in a day or two. Because the colas are leaning, there is a lot of open space in the center of the canopy now. That's the biggest advantage I see to them leaning so far over. However I'm also seeing some yellowing leaves. Or color changing. I'm guessing she is killing off useless leaves. Although, the leaves aren't actually dying. Not yet anyway. This could be the start of the fade. However, I thought the fade started much closer to harvest. We shall see what happens. Also, not by my doing, the temp has been fairly low during the day. Mid afternoon it climbs up, but during the day it's around 72Β°. I know that's too low, but I also know that it will help trichome production and maturation. Not to mention the colors that should come out. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.2Β° RH: 43.5% VPD: 1.47 kPa January 18, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 9 Curing Number 2: Much more lean today. There's like 3 tops that are still standing. The rest have flopped over. I can't wait for that net to arrive. The big advantage is the light distance grew and the canopy opened up at least the center canopy. Honestly I'm not sure what will happen growth wise with the colas all leaning near horizontally. Really, it kind of looks like the Aftershock of an atomic bomb. All the trees laying flat. It's comical, but still what will happen to them? Frankly I'd rather not find out. Not with this plant at least. The biggest issue I'm running into relating to maintenance is my inability to reach the center of the canopy. I can't reach from the top or the bottom. Hell, I can barely see the center. The plant is too tall and I'm 5'9". The tent is also too short. So I can't even get a step stool. Such wonderful problems to have. I have managed to get into the back of the plant from the bottom. I can't reach much, but I can at least I can inspect. So far everything looks great. There are massive leaves back there that I could never reach. So that's where they live until I do a pre-harvest defoliation. She'll be getting a top gallon of Flawless Finish today. The reservoir is nearly empty, so it's time. Everything else looks great! I can only imagine how heavy this plant is going to get. Especially with the canopy opened to the lower bud sites. It should increase the yield quite a bit. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.0Β° RH: 43.6% VPD: 1.52 kPa January 19, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 10 Curing Number 2: The Beast is getting a wonderful aroma. Very pungent and strong. It just shows that she's getting ready for harvest. Another week and a half I'd say. There's more orange pistils and more leaning. I was told by a friend that the lean isn't a big deal, so that helped alleviate my concerns. I'm still going to throw a net over the top to keep colas from leaning up against each other so much. No water needed today... So far that is. The moisture content is around 20% and doesn't look like it will be at 15% for the day. Maybe this evening? If not by 4 pm, then I'll water tomorrow morning. But this is a great sign she is finishing up. Less water intake. The reservoir is nearly empty now. Just a little bit on the bottom and it'll be dry as a bone. Probably by the end of the day. I may start slowly taking leaves off in the upcoming days. I'll do it until harvest day. Or at least until the massive defoliation I plan to do before harvest. I'm not wet trimming. I'm just getting rid of the plethora of foliage. I like to dry trim. It makes collecting kief easier. Other than that, everything looks good. I will take note that even with the light intensity all the way down to 20%, the leaves aren't reaching at all. Shouldn't they be praying some? Maybe that means there's still plenty of light and there's no need to reach. However, I'm also not getting very tired plants. The leaves kind of stay the same. From what I can tell anyway. I wonder if it's because the supplemental lighting is on 100%. But those lights don't give off that much power. So it shouldn't do much to cause lack of praying. Update: Net installed. And what a mess it is. Oh well. It's kind of doing the job. Good enough at least. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.1Β° RH: 43.8% VPD: 1.53 kPa January 20, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 11 Curing Number 2: Not much going on today. She doesn't need water and probably won't until tomorrow morning. Maybe. I really hope I'm not stuck at an afternoon feeding schedule. I prefer to feed in the morning. The reservoir is completely dried out now. So flushing can really start. Honestly I'm not sure how well the flawless finish works in living soil. Maybe it doesn't do anything. But I really want a fade. It super helps me know that the plant is almost ready. But I rarely get a good fade or a fade at all. So hopefully with this plant, I started flushing in time. I figure 2 full weeks should do it. At least it better do it. We will see. Soon hopefully. I pulled some leaves off today. Just a few. Nothing to really note, but I did anyway. I'll pull some more tomorrow. And I'll continue until the last day. Hopefully by then, most of the lower leaves will be gone and I won't have to take 8 hours to trim 1 plant. Granted it's a huge plant, but I'd rather keep it down to 4 hours. Not to mention the size and density of the colas could bring about mold or something when drying with so many leaves covering the plant. So most of them can be taken off. At least most of the lower canopy. The upper canopy doesn't have that many leaves. Not enough to trim off before harvest. It'll be just the lower part of the plant and the lower to mid canopy. That's where the concentration of foliage is the most dense. Other than all that, the net seems to be working a bit. It's holding the most leaning colas up some and helped to open a bit more canopy. Update: I've been keeping an eye on the soil moisture content and in the past 2 hours, it's gone from 24% to 21%. I may actually have to water this afternoon. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.3Β° RH: 43.0% VPD: 1.56 kPa January 21, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 12 Curing Number 2: This beast is just too much. I decided I screwed up the top net and removed it. I'll just let the plant do it's own thing in that aspect. However, the lean is seriously a lot. I ended up trying to prop some of the colas up against each other. But they are all wrapped up in the branches. I started to do minor defoliation today. I removed a lot of the dying and damaged leaves off of the lower part of the plant. Other leaves are popping off with ease. So from here on out, I'll be removing some leaves here and there. The goal is to get enough off by harvest time, I won't have to do much full defoliation. She got a full gallon of Flawless Finish today. I'm pretty sure when is back on track now to be fed in the morning again. I am a bit concerned with how much the colas are leaning. I feel like they are just blocking light from other colas that have been topped onto. I was going to try and redo the net, but I really cannot reach in far enough to make the net work. Not sure what to do to be honest. This is an issue I've never run into. It's a great issue, but it's still an issue. Comment below with what you would do. I'd love to see everyone's opinions and solutions. Update: I replaced the top net and did a better job at it. So now the colas are laying naturally but supported. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.7Β° RH: 40.6% VPD: 1.69 kPa January 22, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 13 Curing Number 2: She got a full gallon top water today Flawless Finish. She was at 17% moisture content and was light enough. I have a feeling tomorrow morning she will be at 20%. She's definitely not taking in as much as she was. She also has a lot more orange pistils. Her smell is even stronger as well. I finished up taking out the damaged lower leaves today. There wasn't much left anyway. So now it's time to start slowly taking larger fan leaves out of the lower canopy. Just a few a day. So now based on what I'm seeing, she is right on time for when I expected her to harvest. She has about 10 days left I'd say. Her buds are super heavy. Foxtails or not, they are heavy. There's also the start of the fade I think. The leaves are yellowing and starting to appear to be changing color. Kind of. Right on time though. Grow System Environment: Temp: 70.8Β° RH: 45% VPD: 1.38 kPa January 23, 2024 Gorilla Cookies: Number 1: Day 14 Curing This is the end of the road for this lady. 2 week cure and the seal will be popped today. What a nice plant. What a nice grow. COMPLETE Number 2: Not much today. Just a gallon of Flawless Finish with a bit of runoff. I removed some more damaged leaves today and some others that were blocking other bud sites of were just too crowded. Not much though. I'm working the front of the plant mostly as I can't reach the back. However, I think the back is a bit less dense than the front and left side. I could be wrong. I can't see back there. Lol. So for the end of week 1 of flushing, here are the highlights. More trichomes. More orange pistils Heavier colas Fading started (yesterday) Less water intake. That's all for this week. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.6Β° RH: 45.2% VPD: 1.50 kPa

lokos to be a fiar amount of perlite in your soil. overwatering is easy to avoid with simple good habits when watering. water until entire pot is wet. a little runoff ensures this, but not always necessary. wait for top 1" to dry and repeat. how often you fertilize depends on several factors and preferences. the more often you fertilize the less concentrated it sould be, and vice versa for longer periods of time between fertilization. so, if it is ever droopy after these types of irrigation habits, it's the drainagae quality of your substrate that is the cause of any droopiness or water-related issues. 50/50 is a good mix of perlite to soil. stick in that range and you should never see 'overwatering' while stickign to the above standard operating procedure. if you swithc to coco, only need 30% perlite (or similar drainage amendment) if you stick to those ratios fo substrate:drainage amendment, it is impossible to overwater. you might over or under fertilize, but it won't be from too much or too little watering. don't ever tell your self "it's all the same" because it isnt each plant is different gentics and potential different reaction to whatever is in the soil... that soil is not 100% homogenous either. always observe and react... cause and effect... feeling it's all the same is irrelevant and tends to interject personal biases into diagnosing problems. regardless, something specific is happening to the plant you observed looking odd. that's all that matters.. identifying and reacting properly. allow a bit more development before transplant for a rootball that is more robust. when you distrub the rootball that is usually the cause of any transplant shock.. not watering it.. you should always water after a transplant to help settle the substrate around it.. make sure you don't have to fill in any chasms if the form. time your transplants as best you can so it isn't 2 irrigations with very little time between. you don't want it to be as dry as a typical wet-dry cycle, so that the substrate will hold together better with enough moisture in it. deviating 1 time from that normal wet-dry cycle (waiting for top 1" to dry before next), is not the end of the world. but don't make a habit of it. also, in a small seedling tray or starter cup etc, you want to irrigate a bit sooner than 1" deep. in general it's anon issue, because by teh time you have to irrigate a recently planted seed, it's got a tap root all the way to bottom of small starter pots. allowing top to dry reduces risks of pathogens and pests. it keeps a good o2 ratio in soil for roots. it promotes deper roots vs superficial roots that are less effective. this simple method of irrigating provides numerous benefits. remember, you don't pick the volume of water needed... that is a recipe for fucking up substrate equilibrium. feel weight of pot when it is time to irrigate. this can be used as a trigger too. If you water at same weight loss, it requires the same volume of water as before. so, you can dial it in and reduce wasted water.

Autos do have a short life span and I noticed my plants lower leaves did this when I saw nothing else wrong with them. I plucked the leaves and continued watching and checking runoff ppms and ph. I grew in coco so ph wasn't my issue I was worried about ppms. Always follow the 10-20% water runoff rule. And make sure they are not 300ppm or more above your input ppms or your over feeding. Or 200ppms or more "less" then your input ppms. Or your under feeding. Environment plays a role so Google a good vpd chart, I use pulse vpd chart. Make sire your in the correct zone for your current stage of growth! I see nothing wrong but lower leaves dying off due to short life span, although a runoff check will tell you if you're deficient or toxic and then we can go from there! Please consider me as the answer to the question so I have a chance to win grower of the month contest πŸ™ please and thank you 😊

My 2x2 is starting to crowd. This is driving the RH to over 70%. Should I defoliate to help with crowding and RH? Or should I just leave it alone? RH in lung room is 48% Exhaust fan, high or low with a dehumidifier, doesn't work. What should I do? Defoliate? Thanks! Check diary.

Defoliation can certainly help. Less leaves = less transpiration. Are you keeping your soil really wet? If so water less. Lowering the space temperature will slow down the transpiration rate and will decrease humidity. Not sure what you are using for extraction fan, but it might be wise to just run it constantly, or get a bigger fan that can move that humidity out quickly and keep it in check. Keeping the tent open will certainly lower the humidity, but you'll waste light and release all of the environment. So to recap, Defoliate 50% of your leaves, yes Lower environment temperature (decreases transpiration rate) Don't saturate your soil or leave any water laying around (a big full root zone needs saturation, but if your plants go 4 or more days without watering then reduce your water volume) Invest in a bigger extraction fan

I'm using the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE. I don't top feed, so does anyone know if I should let the reservoir dry out? Or, because it's a form of hydroponics, do I make sure to keep water in there all the times? Also, should I keep the nutrients constant? Thanks!

In a bottom-feed watering system like the AC Infinity SELF-WATERING FABRIC POT BASE, it's generally beneficial to maintain a consistent moisture level rather than letting the reservoir completely dry out. Here's why: Continuous Moisture: Plants often prefer consistent moisture, and allowing the reservoir to dry out completely may stress the plants. Consistent moisture ensures that plants have access to water and nutrients when needed. Hydroponic-Like System: While it's not a traditional hydroponic system, bottom-feed systems share some characteristics. Maintaining a consistent water level helps provide stability in nutrient availability to the plants. Preventing Stress: Allowing the reservoir to dry out completely can lead to stress for the plants. Inconsistent watering can result in fluctuations in nutrient availability, potentially impacting plant health and growth. Nutrient Consistency: Keeping nutrient levels relatively consistent is advisable. Fluctuations in nutrient concentration can lead to nutrient imbalances, affecting plant development. Regularly monitoring and adjusting nutrient levels based on plant growth stages is a good practice. While maintaining a consistent moisture level is generally beneficial, it's crucial not to overwater. Overwatering can lead to oxygen deprivation in the root zone, potentially causing root issues. Finding the right balance and adjusting based on the specific needs of your plants is key to a successful bottom-feed watering system. Regularly monitoring plant health, nutrient levels, and moisture content will guide your watering practices.

The feeding system your running is probably more efficient on the smaller containers. Add to it the roots have to push to find water then it would be easier in the smaller container. Thus meaning the smaller ones found water first and had a easier time. If I had to guess the bigger ones will catch up, and surpass the smaller ones. Although this is my assumption, I'm not accounting for the phenos. Every strain has multiple phenos. You may plant 10 seeds and have 10 different looking plants. Better breeders get this dialed in, and the phenos are less sporadic. 10 seeds might give you 2 or 3 phenos instead of 10.. Now. With this said I would guess it's the smaller containers allowed the plants to have a steady supply of nutes quicker, if it's not a odd pehno... if so the bigger potted ones should catch up and surpass the little ones. Goodluck. Please consider selecting me as the answer so I can be entered for a chance to win grower of the month contest I would really appreciate your support growmie πŸ˜ƒ πŸ™

Lower 3rd is a general rule of thumb. I find the best practise is to keep your plant profile low through trellis nets and scrogging them (Screen of Green). I don't understand why people waste time and energy growing a plant 4 feet tall just to have to butcher the lower 3rd to half of the plant. Why did you waste the time and nutrients is what i ask myself? Why not trellis your plant and fill the net 3/4 with tops, then flip to 12/12, and tuck the first week, then allow everything to stretch up, then defoliate and watch your yield be epic, with little plant wasted.

In regards to a grow question about bottom feeding, I wanted to explain what I know and what I don't know about the bottom feed wicking system I have specifically with autoflowers. For starters the system works best when the 1 gallon reservoir needs to be refilled every couple of days or less. This is usually at the start of flowering when the roots have reached the bottom of the fabric container. No need to worry about the standing water. It'll be gone before anything has a chance to populate it. As for an autoflowers early life, I believe there is a difference here with photos and autos. Photos are generally in veg longer than autos, which means top feeding is a very short venture with autos. I have found that 14 to 20 days of top watering is sufficient. But not a full watering. Just enough to make sure the young plant gets what it needs. The final top watering before the bottom feed is about 1 gallon to 1.5 gallons. This is in both 3 and 5 gallon fabric containers with living soil and not coco. That could be different. It could also be a bit later or earlier based on what the plant wants. As for the bottom watering system, I prime the containers around week 3 by filling the reservoir with a half gallon of water and letting it soak into the soil. It takes about 20 minutes, but works well in the end. By doing this, the water from the bottom will meet up with the watering from the early top feed and by the time they connect the plant is ready for the wicking system. It's like prep work. As for what to expect during the grow, your roots will grow into the wicks. When this happens, I don't recommend lifting the plant from its base. This is where the fill up comes into play. I like to use a one gallon water jug to fill the reservoir. If I had a spout, I think it would be easier. Nothing pressured. Pour the water slowly to help with spillage. I also mix the nutrients right in the water jug. Makes it easier to fill up with an exact gallon. I haven't had much of an issue with salt build up, but I only use a 1/4 to a half dose. I wondered if I should let it dry out, but no. Instead, I use a lower dose of constant nutrients and keep the reservoir from drying out. Clean it every couple weeks and it should be good. A little trick I thought of in hindsight. Cut your wicks a little bit longer so you can make a loose knot to hold them in place. Make sure they are long enough to touch bottom. If I think of anything else I'll add it too. Any questions, please ask.

So this is what AC Infinity says about their Bottom Feed Wicking System. Please refill the basin whenever the water meter reads empty. It is recommended to clean and refill the basin every two weeks to prevent unwanted buildup and further protect against interlocking roots and wick lines. It's best to keep an eye on the meter for the low water reads.
