Is this root rot, could it be an excess of nutrients? How can I fix this from happening.

I have some root issues, I recently upped the PPM in my tank, and since then my roots have started going very brown. PPM was at 900 when this issue appeared, so i reduced and is around 690 Ph is 5.8, - OUTDOOR DWC Photos are before and after I cleaned roots.
Solved

Looks like rot. With your set up, it could also just be dirt getting into your res. Hydroguard to prevent rot, and peroxide to treat it (you'll have to Google the proper amounts). Hydroguard will prevent rot if your res is getting too warm. If you are having real difficulty controlling the res temp and the hydroguard is ineffective, I recommend throwing a few 20oz bottles of frozen water in the res during the hottest parts of the day. Just make sure you really clean the bottles. Good news is this is easy and cheap because once they melt, you just throw them back into your freezer. As always, keep an eye on your pH.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I am in Aus so it's very difficult for me to get hydroguard. I have Pythoff which is a Nutrient conditioner used to stop pythium (and other root rot). I do not know what it contains, but I assume that is similar to hydroguard. Temps are getting up around 75. I will try the water bottle tricks.

Your plant looks pretty healthy. So not necessarily. - Are the roots slimy-ish? If so, then very likely root rot. If the roots aren't slimy, it could simply be nutrients colouring the roots..

Yes it is root rot. You need hydroguard by botanicare. It's a beneficial bacteria that's kills rot root and will have those roots pearl white. Also you can use it as a preventative in hydro. Love the stuff. Also quick tip you need some type of reflective barrier for your bucket to keep light hitting it and keeping solutions hot. Res temps need to be around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Try some frozen water bottles.

The issue is still occurring at ppm 690, I have been monitoring every 2 days and I am using a product called 'pythoff' as a nutrient conditioner.
