I’ve done DWC several times, not a newbie. Getting pH spikes from 6.0 to just under 7.0 in 48 hrs, and an algae like dark brown/reddish substance within 48hrs as well. New stones, black buckets, 950 GPH pump feeding 1 stone per bucket. Net pots covered with cardboard. What gives?

I think everyone contributed equally to this, and it’s still unknown exactly what was causing this.. but I’m thinking it may be part of the mechanism of hydro guard, cuz it’s disappears after a few days, like it says it turns bacteria into food for the plant so maybe that’s what’s happening. Thanks for input everyone

Wierd. I had issues like this before in my rdwc system but I was using root accelerators and it was just the nutrients. If they are not slimy and you don't feel its root rot then maybe throw some frozen bottles in the control bucket. I used hydro guard and kept my plants fine in a closet for a while lmao. I've never had an issue with root rot or algae being so bad it was harmful though and I use clear and sometimes white buckets but Idk mate. They don't look so bad to me so maybe changing things too much could cause more issues. I start thinking about maybe having backups worst case. Experience has taught me to always have a plan B lmao

In order for algae to grow it has to have light so somewhere, maybe from a lid not being closed all the way or you have an opening that isn't sealed. Since there's already algae in the system you can remove it with a SCRUB-brush, or use hydrogen peroxide (3ml of 3% H2O2 per gallon of solution) to remove it. If there are particles floating in the nutrient solution, be sure to flush the reservoir and growing chamber with ample water, and then start with a new batch of nutrients. If the problem is severe, make sure you have the algae completely flushed out to avoid the risk of clogging some of the flow lines in the system. After you use the peroxide, refill the tank with clean water and DRAIN AND REPLENISH AGAIN to rinse it good. Some info says peroxide will not help or work and will kill the plants like it kills the algae. Use common sense and don't flood the plants with peroxide, and rinse the tank thoroughly.

Pics may not seem bad but this is after 48 hrs from nute change and cleaning.. happened several times already early on in veg, shit shows up after 48 hrs and spikes pH to 7.. Running hydroguard at 2-2.5 ml/gallon. Nutes do not have dark color, normal GH flora trio
