So I've got a dimmable ballast on this light and am currently set at 400w. When would you recommend to increase the power to 600w?

atm everything looks fine.... you are going to need your extra 200 watts for the Flowering stage. Using it before? i see no big need. Look how she develops and always shows a good internodial distance. I dont know how big your growspace is but 400 watts HID should be enough for a growingspace like 2x3 feet..... so keep your girlin your eye.. if she start to grow to dense with a short internodial distance dimm the power down/ rise the lights. If flowers has appeared around week 2 of flowering stage you can give all your wattage on her, shes strong enough then

Hi @HolySmoke! I like to dim my driver to the max as soon as my plants enter the preflowering stage. If you have only 1 or 2 plants in here, there's no need for more than 400w during the veg stage, but it's all about the quality of your light/spectrum and the way you manage the plant-to-lamp distance. I would keep it in 400w mode until you trigger the flowering stage. Hope this will help, let me know in the comments section if you need any further information. Happy growing! 👊

You can do that if it's not going to affect the temps or if you can keep the lights far enough from the plants. Best way imho is to go bigger gradually. I start with 125w LED, then after week switch to 400w and finally, when plants start budding to 600w (or more). Small plants can not use up too much light. Best of luck!

If you are worried about electric bill then you can keep at that watts till after 2 week of flower then slowly increase. But if you want faster growth more vigorous growth then when plant is 2 to 3 weeks old start to increase little at a time no drastic changes.
