sure looks dry... "topping" doesn't cause droop.
most ppl take a top-down approach to irrigation and assume they are doing things right...
Irrigate entire pot.. this means you don't whimisically pick a volume of water to give... you give enough to ensure the entire subtrate got wet. With soil you want to dail that in for minimal runoff so you don't waste amendments in the soil. You do this by watering at the some point each time and in hindsight you can figure out how much fertilized water you need to prepare and avoid excess waste. You do this by feeling the weight of the pot, primarily... sticking a finger 1" deep into top of soil is a valid choice too but won't be as consistent and learning to feel the weight of a 'light' pot... if you do it at same loss of weight, then it will require the same volme of water previously. This depends on the size of teh pot, how much perlite (or similar) there is etc... it varies.
If this sounds foreign to you, reconsider the believe that it certainly cannot be over- or under-watering. if yo do it this way, then consider watering at a point of a little less weight loss.
