unless you are trying to do some sort of frequent fertigation program, you are probably watering too frequently with that much fugnus growth on the outside of the pot.
myco needs roots to survive. That may just be some random fungus feeding on any decaying organic material in the substrate. Usually this is not a problem, but not ideal, either. It can be indicative of bad watering habits. From what i read in current diary week, it sounds like you have some bad watering habits.
you don't choose the volume of water needed. You simply water until the whole thing is wet. Whatever it takes. then wait until top 1" dries and repeat. If you water at the same loss of weight, which should correlate to the 1" dry top layer, it will require the same volume.. a volume you learn in hindsight. it is not our choice it is dictated by how much water capacity the soil has and it's aeration properties.
you can tell this is fungi and not nutrients drying up because it's hairy. for future reference. A little dried up "scale" isn't too big of a deal. scrape it off and clean it between uses.. same with this, though you may want to soak it in some 3% h2o2 for 30minutes between uses too.
