With autoflowers, at what point do you switch from metal halide to high pressure sodium lights? When the pistils first show or when you actually start to see budlets?

Tricky but simple. If you want the plant to stretch then use the HPS when you see the 1st pistils so she'll gain height, but if you want short plants do the whole stretch under MH then switch to hps when the stretch is done ( when the vertical grow is finish ). According to me it is all about the spectrum : Blue to get them short , orange to get them tall , 50/50 to get ... best of both world

Hi @indoorontario! I would switch to HPS once the plant has ended its stretch, indeed HPS is great to make the buds fatten up, not so great when it comes to the pre-flowering stage (heat + bloom spectrum => stretch => poor yield). Happy growing!

I would wait intel your just seeing the buds start to form like when they start getting really bushy but. It’s always good to experience something different if your growing the same plant over maybe try it early then next grow try it later? You never know exactly how the strain will react honestly 🌱🤙🏼😁

This essentially will break down to preference , you can switch to HPS pretty much anytime . Often times growers will only use HPS bulb duing the growth of an autoflower . You could flower it under your MH too , but I wouldnt advise that as its not really the right spectrum just keep in mind it can be done . Also to note , it all depends on how long the roots take to reach the bottom of your pot , I use 3 gallon pots with autos and they start taking off around week 3-4 , I've had some go past that but for the most part no . I grow with both bulbs I leave the MH in till its done stretching only then will I switch to HPS . This is my personal preference I'm just laying it out as a guide . I hope this information helps you to on your journey ! Happy Growing!

If u want closer spacing in-between branches then wait untill u see little buds. If u want it to stretch a little swap. Hps encourages stretching. Mh will slow the stretch.

Sometimes autoflowers will veg for a couple weeks after showing the first pistils so you can wait until you see the first pistils forming buds on your tops. You can run it another 10 days or so after they start forming if you want to reduce stretch. Hope this helps. Good luck!
