Forgive me growmies, for I have sinned…
Oh boy what an update this week! Although it’s a bit out of order, I’m going to start with what I was referring to above as it’s slightly irrelevant to the journal being that this is about one of the rock candy cakes roommates…
So right now I have 4 wautomint autos going, as well as 1 frosted melon wreck auto in the same space as the rock candy cake-
Things are understandably getting a little cramped… after all, these are just 3x3 spaces I am working in and although it’s perpetual and I have plants in various stages of growth, I think count wise I was a bit hasty starting this last venture with the rock candy cake… but no REGERTS right?🤪 …..let’s hope… anywho
So things are getting cramped and I decided to take the largest of the wautomints and move it into my other area with the cosmic apprentice and anvil. I wanted to do just a little bit of lst on it and I had a decent amount of space (which I used) between the nodes to try and make the stalk more pliable to bend it over and tie it down- all seemed well at first, well when I went to check on them a while later that night, it looks like I went in and just broke branches left and right like I’m chuck norris breaking boards… ugh I do NOT know how that happened- well I might…
I was real quick to try and blame my newb status (which yes that still definitely ties in) and just say I wasn’t being careful enough, but I really was being careful and looking back I realized I had come across something I up until this point, had not experienced… hollow(ish) stems- when I was trying to gently pinch these stems which although maybe diameter slightly larger than a Bic pen, it gave under little pressure.. I have had stems I had to use both hands to try and pinch to soften that inner stem and was unsuccessful so this was a surprise, a first, and a learning experience- I know when I felt it- and then I kept going… I know not to do that so I can sacrifice one branch as opposed to sacrificing a whole plant, not to mention the most promising pheno (so it looked at the time at least 🤷♂️🏻🤦♂️🏻) of the 4…
I haven’t completely given up hope on this one, I know that these plants are amazing and resilient and have bounced back from many near death situations of various circumstances… best case scenario, THIS will be one of those stories..
Whew! Okay it felt great getting that one of my chest and out of the way, thank you for listening! Now onto the rock candy cake!
Now last post I had mentioned that when I had transplanted the peat pellet into the cup, I wasn’t seeing many roots and went ahead with the transplant anyways- well I believe that’s why I am not seeing a whole lot of growth this week, I imagine our root system is still trying to establish itself and just needs more time to catch up with its new container- so I am going to hold off on transplanting this week-
Believe it or not I had a little unexpected issue which was the fact that this past weekend my wife and I went to pure breedings neck of the woods for our anniversary - which on one hand was awesome, we had a great time!!! But on the other hand- I was in major panic mode 😱 as I’m growing in coco and didn’t want it to dry out, turn acidic and burn my roots- soo it was time for me to take a look through my stuff and see exactly which components I had to set up a little auto watering system while I was gone.
The hydro halos and tubing to go with that was too large a diameter to fit the pump that I had but luckily I had tubing that fit the pump as well as just enough Blumats to hit all of the plants-
I have to say it was a bit stressful but actually when it was all set up it was kind of cool-
I totaled erred on the side of caution all around on this one-
For example I only mixed up 4 gallons in the reservoir as I knew even if it had that feared syphoning effect that I’ve read about (which made me super nervous as I was about to leave town), that worst case scenario, it still wouldn’t flood my basement.
And also I had to use caution when setting the timer and run time- I was so cautious that my efforts were basically useless and the coco had dried quite a bit by the time we were back home… but hey- at least I actually didn’t kill any plants… well… hopefully…
apparently I came back from my anniversary judo chopping every limb on that one wautomint for being head of the class (not cool of me, 🙏 for a speedy recovery… I see some recharge in its near future)
As far as nutrients go, I have just been using the basic jacks 3-2-1 mix on the rock candy cake with the exception of the night I got back from our trip-
Additionally I had used fox farms bush doctor cal mag as well as kelp me kelp you. I added the Cal mag because I was thinking that I was unsure what the Coco drying out to that extent would do- so coco has to be buffered and all that and has to be kept moist, when it dries out, does it throw everything out of whack? Under the assumption that it did (and yes I know, I know the saying about assuming so we’ll see) I added cal mag.
And as far as adding the kelp, I’m going to be as honest as I’ve always been and tell you that I’m not quite sure on what the outcome will be or how it will interact with the plant at this stage and if it will even help it recover or at least continue to do it’s thing un phased or stunted from the coco mishap this past weekend… what I CAN tell you was what I was thinking/ hoping is that I keep hearing how kelp (specifically this one kind in I think the netherlands(obviously just correct me if I’m wrong, I didn’t Google it to fact check myself)) is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and I was hoping that by it’s addition- that it might bring some of that vigor that it is known for producing.
Thank you so much everyone for stopping by and joining me on this adventure and be sure pop in from time to time there will be plenty more to come! I’ll see ya next time!! 💚🤙
