Hey hey my fellow grow-migos!
We are back at the beginning of week 6 with another week down in the books!
We had quite a bit of shuffling this week as the perpetual grow is constantly churning out beautiful plants covered in buds!
First I would like to give an update on that anvil that I was talking about last week- I had mentioned that it didn’t have that typical aroma I associate with cannabis and I was SUPER curious about what the smoke would be like (as far as taste goes) and I must say, I was PLEASANTLY surprised! I could really taste an incense like flavor on the draw, and it has a long way to go before I would consider it to be fully and properly cured which is great news! It already tastes amazing and it should only be getting better as it keeps going so I am SUPER excited to get into that down the road!!!
Ok mini strain update out of the way, now for the grow spaces… things were really starting to get super cramped in there for the poor rock candy cake and I really wanted to give her some room to breath- the frosted melon wreck had been about ready to take down and for the past maybe 5 days I’ve been just giving it water trying to flush some of those nutrients out of the coco…(this could totally be bro science and without proper facts to justify this practice, all I can say is I’m coming from the school of thought that says fact or not, I’m okay with taking the cautious approach as long as it won’t have any negative impact on the plant….. that being said- if anyone has facts, please always feel free to stop by and drop some knowledge)
I wanted to take it down as I have some exciting projects in the works however, I didn’t have anywhere to put it where smell wouldn’t be an issue and with tricker treaters abound, I figured waiting another day would be in my best interest.
I took down the frosted melon wreck and am excited to get into that, my yields have noticeably doubled and it’s been consistent- I think this one may be even more than that which is awesome! And also proves that yes autos can be trained and all that (just be careful because stunting is a very real possibility)
With that down, I was able to move 2 of the wautomint into its place (I topped those two, but really didn’t do any training on them- I will blame the neglect at first on just pure distraction within the garden- I almost broke the one so I think I backed off a bit and then it just evolved into an experiment- I have 4 plants of the same strain trained in 3 different ways so I figured it would be a good opportunity for me to get a nice comparison in end yields for each method. I know to truly test this I should be working with clones off the same mother plant, but I’m working with what I have.
That leaves just one wautomint with the rock candy cake- I didn’t really touch that wautomint too much, I pretty much have left it in that back corner minus when I fertigate but the rock candy cake is another story-
I had noticed that it didn’t take long to see roots trying to poke out the sides of the bottom of the grow bag so I figured it was time to transplant-
I don’t have a bunch of space so this will definitely be the final pot- it actually came from my grandmother- I have no idea what size it is but if I had to guess, I’d say somewhere between 7 and 10 gallons?
It’s a shame that I don’t have more growspace, I literally sent a message to the breeder just letting him know that I could tell this plant had so much potential and would be an absolute BEAST if it wasn’t confined in a 3x3 but alas, that is what I have for right now and I will utilize it as best I can- I will easily be able to fill out that space and then after I do that, THEN I will flip into flower and just hope after tbe stretch, I see some spears form- we will see, I’ve only had one of the other but not both… either I’ve scrogged and got a BUNCH of bud sites but no spears OORRRR I have gotten a few spears formed from the main branches of the plant, so we will see-
I keep seeing pictures online that keep my glass half full and I will continue to strive for the results I see in those pictures- but like I said, I have certainly noticed a doubling in my yields so we’re doin good no complaints here-
With the rock candy cake, after transplanting, I waited a day (probably could’ve waited longer from a stress inducing perspective) to train the crap out of that thing! I usually poke holes in the fabric or plastic pots I use but this was made out of something else so I actually decided to just use bamboo stakes (I’m gonna have to watch out and be careful I don’t poke myself in the eye)
I was on my way into work this morning listening to the dude grows podcast and they were talking about a bamboo scrog net like set up that I will definitely have to look up- they said it looked really cool and in the closet, it’s been difficult for me to put up a scrog net so this sounds like an alternative method I might have to explore…
Something I noticed while training the rock candy cake was again, the presence of hollow stems- I don’t know if I am wrongfully associating it with the jacks 321, but I haven’t come across any hollow stems until I switched to those nutrients- my hypothesis would be that there is something no longer present that I lost during the nutrient switch- I am going to have to do some detective work to 1. Figure out if that statement is correct or not and 2. Figure out what it is that I lost that’s responsible for this whole hollow stem phenomenon… the only reason I mind, is that I really enjoy the training- I feel like a plant sculptor….. and now I feel like a dork because I said that out loud, but you know what? It’s true, I love seeing what it looks like before, right after training, and then seeing how it bounces back and just flourishes! The resiliency of this plant is amazing and took me, a guy that was far too timid to train during my first run and turned me into someone who has trouble waiting to train these things to see what happens.
I am running low on jars which is a great problem to have and will soon be venturing into the world of edibles… smoking is by far my favorite way to consume my favorite plants offerings- however my wife likes edibles and also with certain holidays coming up, it may be a good opportunity to bring some with me to share the wealth!
As far as what we have coming up? Well, I have some more genetics headed my way- pure breeding had a new drop that I got in on which is awesome and on that same night, I actually reached out to another person on the same podcast and have some of his genetics coming to me as well- beyond that, I have a couple loose ends I am trying to tie up and we may still have that bit of exciting news that I’ve been eluding to in my past few posts, coming to us right around the corner! My fingers are crossed VERY tightly for that!
All that being said, I think that about wraps up all the updates I have for you wonderful growers and enthusiasts this week- I am excited to get at it and return next week with some more exciting goings on in the growspace.
So until next time growmies- stay safe and may your gardens and harvests be bountiful 💚🤙
