Hey everyone! So to start with just a bit of background on my experience level and my spaces- I am a new grower with a perpetual set up. I’m not sure exactly what number grow to count this, I have plants in all stages of the aforementioned perpetual grow… so I want to say second, but what I can say for sure- is that this will be my first time with feminized photoperiod seeds- the only other photo I have grown thus far was a regular g44 bag seed and everything else I’ve grown or have going currently are autos. As far as space, I have 2- I have an under stairs closet that I converted as well as an ac infinity tent, both are 3x3 spaces and although somewhat limiting space wise, I did this so that as I upgraded lights and such, it would be fit either space interchangeably.
Quite similar to what I am always hearing- as we see the walls of prohibition falling down all around us, the anticipation of our state becoming legal was inevitably right around the corner and as soon as I saw that green light, the rest was history and out of what I thought was going to be just a hobby, a new passion was born. The pros of growing your own are too long to list but the saving money aspect won my wife over (which was the ultimate green light I had to wait for 😅 haha)
As I said, I quickly became passionate and as I constantly hear about others doing, I too immediately dove head first down all the rabbit holes my mind could handle and started trying to take in any info I could find whether it be through YouTube, podcasts (which get me through EVERY workday), books, audiobooks and guides I was trying to be a sponge.
In my travels I stumbled upon a breeder that I had listened to on multiple podcasts and was quite intrigued by their knowledge, accessibility (as far as answering any questions and customer service- this breeder is solid and approachable) and last but not least, drool worthy offerings 🤤- I was also very into the fact that geographically speaking we are from the same general neck of the woods so not only was I shopping local(ish) but also would imagine that his strains would do well where I am as we are in the same climate zone. At the time it was predicative breeding and they recently had undergone a name change and are now Pure Breeding. From what I understand New England rock candy is their flagship strain and I settled on the rock candy cake!
I received the seeds promptly and basically as soon as I had them in my possession they were burning a serious hole in my pocket and I was dying to plant them- as I said earlier, I am very confined space wise and as I am growing a perpetual I have a few plants in various stages of growth- I ended up pulling the one photo that I had running which was taking up a whole tent and then moved a few things around left it like that for like two days and couldn’t take it anymore and decided to plant just one in this little cubby area that I have in the closet (it will be a tight fit but I justified it in my head as my last photo took quite a long time and many trainings to get the canopy to the size that I had it- so hopefully this will take just enough time for the others to be taken down and harvested to make more room for the rock candy cake! We’ll see if I was correct in thinking this or if it was just a rookie mistake..🤷♂️🏻)
Seeing as how this is what I would consider my second grow, I haven’t developed “my style” of growing And rather him trying different things and comparing the outcome trying to find out what works best for me and my situation-
That being said, to germinate, I have decided to use peat pellets. I have a couple plants that I started in those with 100% success but considering I can count the number of plants that I’ve started out that way with both hands 👐🏻 It’s hard to decipher whether that speaks to the efficacy of that method or just beginners luck- regardless, no paper towel method or seed soaking this round.
As far as growing media I plan on using a 70/30 mix of coco and perlite which I have a few plants in right now and I really like it, MINUS the frequency of fertigation I don’t currently have an automated set up- truth be told I’ve started collecting some of the components and got the hydro halos and all that but I’ve been on the fence because I feel like I move my plants around a lot for that kind of set up as nice as it’d be.
Nutrient wise I am going granular for the first time with jacks 3-2-1. I have been using it for about two weeks so far, but this one I will run in jacks from start to finish so I can really get a more accurate feel of how it’s performing compared to what I was using previously rather than switch half way through and hope I notice a difference between the two- I am far too new for that and am just cutting my teeth still with all of this and wouldn’t claim otherwise.
Anyways to get these started I soaked that peat pellet in some water with a ph of 5.8 and then I flipped the peat pellet over to open up the bottom… I did this because the FIRST time I had used these pellets, they sprouted surprisingly fast and all was going great riiiiight up until I tore off EVERY SINGLE taproot of the 4 autos I had planted while trying to GENTLY remove that outer coating. 🤦♂️🏻 Trust me when I say I will NEVER (at least hopefully never) make that mistake again. Sooo I then just flipped it back over, sprinkled some mykos in there and placed the seed. I then gently pressed on the sides of the peat pellet just enough for the peat to cover the seed, placed it in the container, covered it with the dome and put it in this cubby area in the closet where it will stay until it sprouts and is strong enough for me to transplant.
Grower love and much more to come!🤙
Hey hey!
So a week has passed and we are back!
But quickly before I update you on what happened, I would like to correct myself on a little mistake I made in last weeks post- I had said that the frosted melon wreck and wautomint were from best coast genetics… I apologize, it turns out I was mistaken- those were actually from automatically delicious seeds- if you didn’t notice, great!!🙌 And if you did, I apologize-that was my bad I had realized midway through the week and just wanted to clarify and correct that mis-information.
On that note, let’s get into it!
So! First signs of life on Sunday day 5- it’s admittedly a bit longer than I had expected for the seeds to pop, but I’m actually going to go ahead and take the blame on that one. I don’t think that has anything to do with the genetics or even my germination method-
on average, going off of what I have personally planted in peat pellets, I’ve noticed that they will sprout in about 48 hours. I went to check on day three to see how it was doing and to my unpleasant surprise, I saw the peat pellet on its side inside the little domed container…. Which is why I’m taking the blame- I must have put it back a little too carelessly and THAT along with the fact that the bottom of that container is not perfectly flat…it probably just tipped over and I didn’t realize until I went to check on it (I had been in the closet each day leading up to then, but I purposely try and leave seeds that I’m trying to germinate alone- so I didn’t even take a glance (whoops) buuut I stood it back up Gently placed it back in that little cubby area and tiptoed in retreat and then sure enough 48 hours later on day five I saw that it has sprouted! I pretty much left it alone until today when I transplanted it into the cup.
When I split open the peat pellet encasing, I noticed that I wasn’t seeing the roots which I would generally expect to see at this point, but this I will assume is due to that mishap mentioned above… no biggie- I decided to go ahead as planned (for better or for worse) and sprinkled some mykos all along the outside of that peat pellet- it may not be currently in contact with the roots but they will inevitably end up growing through all the areas that I had any mykos and will soon be able to benefit from the addition of mycorrhizae.
For this run I will be using jacks 3-2-1 from start to finish (with some additional products) - I got it as a kit so it came with more than just the three parts but that is all is will be using for this first fertigation. I ph’ed the water after adding the nutrients and then added some recharge- I’m not sure if this is somewhat redundant after using the mykos but as long as it doesn’t hurt anything I suppose it’s okay for now 👍.
I watered it and brought it over to its new home- same closet different area- I raised it off the ground a bit and turned down the intensity of the light- I plan on gradually bringing it back up to full power but right now I am doing my best to refrain scorching it into oblivion 🔥🌞🔥 i am hoping that she catches up quick as I don’t want the other plants to be without their fair share of light for very long. But will happily sacrifice a bit of light until the rock candy cake is a bit more established and can handle some more light, some more fans etc.. yet again here I am at the end of another post, super happy to be here and stoked for all that is to come- thank you for joining me, and I’ll see you next time! Grower love! 💚🤙😎
Forgive me growmies, for I have sinned…
Oh boy what an update this week! Although it’s a bit out of order, I’m going to start with what I was referring to above as it’s slightly irrelevant to the journal being that this is about one of the rock candy cakes roommates…
So right now I have 4 wautomint autos going, as well as 1 frosted melon wreck auto in the same space as the rock candy cake-
Things are understandably getting a little cramped… after all, these are just 3x3 spaces I am working in and although it’s perpetual and I have plants in various stages of growth, I think count wise I was a bit hasty starting this last venture with the rock candy cake… but no REGERTS right?🤪 …..let’s hope… anywho
So things are getting cramped and I decided to take the largest of the wautomints and move it into my other area with the cosmic apprentice and anvil. I wanted to do just a little bit of lst on it and I had a decent amount of space (which I used) between the nodes to try and make the stalk more pliable to bend it over and tie it down- all seemed well at first, well when I went to check on them a while later that night, it looks like I went in and just broke branches left and right like I’m chuck norris breaking boards… ugh I do NOT know how that happened- well I might…
I was real quick to try and blame my newb status (which yes that still definitely ties in) and just say I wasn’t being careful enough, but I really was being careful and looking back I realized I had come across something I up until this point, had not experienced… hollow(ish) stems- when I was trying to gently pinch these stems which although maybe diameter slightly larger than a Bic pen, it gave under little pressure.. I have had stems I had to use both hands to try and pinch to soften that inner stem and was unsuccessful so this was a surprise, a first, and a learning experience- I know when I felt it- and then I kept going… I know not to do that so I can sacrifice one branch as opposed to sacrificing a whole plant, not to mention the most promising pheno (so it looked at the time at least 🤷♂️🏻🤦♂️🏻) of the 4…
I haven’t completely given up hope on this one, I know that these plants are amazing and resilient and have bounced back from many near death situations of various circumstances… best case scenario, THIS will be one of those stories..
Whew! Okay it felt great getting that one of my chest and out of the way, thank you for listening! Now onto the rock candy cake!
Now last post I had mentioned that when I had transplanted the peat pellet into the cup, I wasn’t seeing many roots and went ahead with the transplant anyways- well I believe that’s why I am not seeing a whole lot of growth this week, I imagine our root system is still trying to establish itself and just needs more time to catch up with its new container- so I am going to hold off on transplanting this week-
Believe it or not I had a little unexpected issue which was the fact that this past weekend my wife and I went to pure breedings neck of the woods for our anniversary - which on one hand was awesome, we had a great time!!! But on the other hand- I was in major panic mode 😱 as I’m growing in coco and didn’t want it to dry out, turn acidic and burn my roots- soo it was time for me to take a look through my stuff and see exactly which components I had to set up a little auto watering system while I was gone.
The hydro halos and tubing to go with that was too large a diameter to fit the pump that I had but luckily I had tubing that fit the pump as well as just enough Blumats to hit all of the plants-
I have to say it was a bit stressful but actually when it was all set up it was kind of cool-
I totaled erred on the side of caution all around on this one-
For example I only mixed up 4 gallons in the reservoir as I knew even if it had that feared syphoning effect that I’ve read about (which made me super nervous as I was about to leave town), that worst case scenario, it still wouldn’t flood my basement.
And also I had to use caution when setting the timer and run time- I was so cautious that my efforts were basically useless and the coco had dried quite a bit by the time we were back home… but hey- at least I actually didn’t kill any plants… well… hopefully…
apparently I came back from my anniversary judo chopping every limb on that one wautomint for being head of the class (not cool of me, 🙏 for a speedy recovery… I see some recharge in its near future)
As far as nutrients go, I have just been using the basic jacks 3-2-1 mix on the rock candy cake with the exception of the night I got back from our trip-
Additionally I had used fox farms bush doctor cal mag as well as kelp me kelp you. I added the Cal mag because I was thinking that I was unsure what the Coco drying out to that extent would do- so coco has to be buffered and all that and has to be kept moist, when it dries out, does it throw everything out of whack? Under the assumption that it did (and yes I know, I know the saying about assuming so we’ll see) I added cal mag.
And as far as adding the kelp, I’m going to be as honest as I’ve always been and tell you that I’m not quite sure on what the outcome will be or how it will interact with the plant at this stage and if it will even help it recover or at least continue to do it’s thing un phased or stunted from the coco mishap this past weekend… what I CAN tell you was what I was thinking/ hoping is that I keep hearing how kelp (specifically this one kind in I think the netherlands(obviously just correct me if I’m wrong, I didn’t Google it to fact check myself)) is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and I was hoping that by it’s addition- that it might bring some of that vigor that it is known for producing.
Thank you so much everyone for stopping by and joining me on this adventure and be sure pop in from time to time there will be plenty more to come! I’ll see ya next time!! 💚🤙
Hey everyone! It’s good to be back with another update on the grow!
Today marks a special day, it marks one month and Today, I decided to properly utilize my lunch break and go to the local grow store to get some more coco- I picked up some “cultivation nation” which is made by fox farms- I’ve used it in the past, it’s a convenient pre-buffered 70/30 mix of coco and perlite. And what does that recent acquisition mean? It means that today is also TRANSPLANT DAY!!
Now I was only planning on transplanting the rock candy cake, but I had last minute decided to transplant two of the wautomints and was glad I did! I saw we were lookin ever so slightly root bound in those plastic pots they were in- the good news is- it looks as though I caught that at a great time and they are now in 3 gallon fabric pots which will be the pots they remain in until harvest!
The bad news however, is that I have two more of those in the same size plastic pots… one of those is just a slight pain as it is staked and tied down here and there, however- the other of those two wautomints is currently entangled in a scrog net alongside the frosted melon wreck…
I was going to just leave it but when I saw the roots, not only did they look like the were starting to bind up a bit, but when I saw the color I was a bit concerned… the looked like they starting to darken a bit towards the bottom… beginning of root rot maybe (haven’t googled it yet) it seems sill to me now that I don’t know what root rot looks like yet, but truth be told, to this point, I have only had experience with fabric grow bags. So more to come on that situation and if I end up repotting those- I suppose we will find out next week!
Back to your regularly scheduled programming… (the rock candy cake 🎂 🍰)
Similarly to the aforementioned wautomints, (the transplanted ones) I also up potted into the 3 gallon. When I got a look at those roots, I was happy with how they were looking so I felt better about moving it to the bigger pot. I added some mykos to the mix and boom everything is sitting pretty for now-
I’ve had to do a lot of moving. I took down the anvil and cosmic apprentice, they are currently hanging to dry, I have two plant in that scrog net as I had mentioned and then have 4 in the closet. All the autos are flowering and I kind of hope that they hurry and the rock candy cake stays low and slow for just a bit-
The reason being..
With the cold weather rapidly approaching, I’m afraid that I am about to have to shut down one of my spaces but I think in this next week I may have a little somethin headed my way, that as fellow growers, enthusiasts, etc, you might be interested in- so stay tuned next week for more on that! I may try to squeeze in ONE more run before the rock candy cake is the sole occupant of the one running grow area!
What’s goin on everybody? I hope everyone is fantastic! We are here with another update as we put another week behind us-
First up on the roster, the cosmic apprentice and anvil that I had drying is now mostly jarred up as I count down the remaining time I have in trim mail… I see the light at the end of the tunnel! The cosmic apprentice is insanely sticky and SUPER pungent, when it was still on the plant sometimes I would get little hints of banana as I was in the tent giving the girls a little love and nutrition. And on the flip side, the anvil- an interesting smell that I can’t seem to describe as of yet- I can’t quite put my finger on it… it’s not that conventional cannabis smell (at least that I’m familiar with) buuuut it is up to its eyelids with that bag appeal- straight purple buds! Not purple ish, I mean PURPLE… with insane amounts of orange hairs- I can’t wait to give both of them a try, the cosmic apprentice is all trimmed and jarred, the anvil I’m just finishing up trimming but of course I started with all the fat buds so now I’m down to all the smaller airier buds that to tell you the truth I’m not entirely sure it is worth my time trimming, but alas! I will persevere! Trimming can be a drag but man you have to step back and realize how lucky we are to be able to complain about trimming the amounts of cannabis we do… beats buying sixty dollar eights any day of the week!
Anyway I digress… moving on!
So! Where the cosmic apprentice and anvil were, I now have one frosted melon wreck and one wautomint- I had put the scrog net in and together, they fill the entire 3x3 space. It stinks, I could definitely train the wautomint and make it bigger if it weren’t for my tower fan taking up a fair amount of space but I don’t want to find out the hard way what happens when I take my air circulation (for the canopy at least) out of the equation… prob not worth the space gained- everything is going well in there, I see I’m running into a deficiency of sorts that I have encountered the past couple runs- this means I’m going to have to put on my imaginary detective hat and try to get to the bottom of this- in the past, I have pulled a plant or two (okay okay it was two maybe three) just a bit early due to this so I am going to have to figure it out- when I try to think what would be causing the issue, there are two theories that I have come up with.
1. I am being lazy and when they are in the bigger containers, I am not watering to the point to where there is enough run off that maybe I am locking myself out due to the build up of salts in the coco?
-or-
2. I am fertigating with the same general nutrients not switching anything up to make sure it’s getting the right nutrition it needs later on in its life cycle- I figure jacks 321 probably came with the “bloom” and “finish” for a reason- so I will try and be better about these two things- I was in denial but I have to be honest with what I am doing and seeing to really hone my skills and dial in my grow.
As for the under stairs closet, everything seems to be doing pretty well but quite cramped- I am impatiently waiting for the day that I can take down the frosted melon wreck so everyone can get just a little breathing room. With the wauto mint, I’m glad that I have them trained in a few different ways- it’ll allow me to really check em out, compare, and see what’s most effective (at least for me in my conditions in the two spaces) annnnd last but not least- the headliner! The rock candy cake!
So we entered new and exciting territory with the rock candy cake- now we are training! I usually top around the fourth node but this time decided to fim the plant- for the very first time! It seems to be doing really well and I wonder if this is less stressful than topping? Idk but I DO know it didn’t seem to slow down too much growth wise- the fans are getting pretty big and it’s funny (a little, it’s also driving me slightly nuts) the part I fimmed is growing in reminding me of cabbage or something- if my OCD has a say, I will probably go right back to topping but I’m not hating on fimming at all- I was pleasantly surprised that it barely slowed down. Other than the fimming, I have also done a bit of LST I’m just trying to start teasing it out while the stems are still pretty thin- I recently ran into hollow stems for the first time and now I’m timid so I want to start while she’s young. Eventually she will take up the whole 3x3- honestly, recently I’ve been finding that have been wishing that I had a 4x4 or a 5x5- at first a 3x3 was fine for a few autos but I feel like I could have filled out my whole tent with the frosted melon wreck and that’s an auto… soo….. finally being in control of veg time it stinks to be limited by my spaces.. however don’t get me wrong I am just thinking out loud and still feel EXTREMELY lucky to live in a time that this is even an option as well as to have a wife who is cool enough to let me do something like this! I am extremely fortunate!💚🤙
Lastly I wanted to address what I was hinting last post- I had an idea that I was very excited about but believe it or not- after acquisition of all the necessary materials, I actually caught wind of something even more exciting (at least for me) so I will have to put this mystery project on temporary hold. I WILL however spill the beans…
So what is this you ask? A competition of sorts? A head to head if you will? No way! We are all friends here this is some thing even better, it’s a trifecta of awesome! I have just this week acquired three different varieties of runtz/ runtz crosses and will be growing them in a side by side not to compete, but to check out, observe, appreciate the differences and appreciate the harvest at the end! When we pull the trigger on this future run, it will consist of runtz from Barney’s farm, forbidden runtz from fast buds and macaruntz from gas reaper! Needless to say I am very excited for what the future holds, not only for that upcoming run- but for even more excellent and very exciting news to come!
Well that’s about it for now, I hope everyone is doing well and everyone’s gardens are busting at the seams with the good stuff 💚🤙 see ya next time!
Hey hey my fellow grow-migos!
We are back at the beginning of week 6 with another week down in the books!
We had quite a bit of shuffling this week as the perpetual grow is constantly churning out beautiful plants covered in buds!
First I would like to give an update on that anvil that I was talking about last week- I had mentioned that it didn’t have that typical aroma I associate with cannabis and I was SUPER curious about what the smoke would be like (as far as taste goes) and I must say, I was PLEASANTLY surprised! I could really taste an incense like flavor on the draw, and it has a long way to go before I would consider it to be fully and properly cured which is great news! It already tastes amazing and it should only be getting better as it keeps going so I am SUPER excited to get into that down the road!!!
Ok mini strain update out of the way, now for the grow spaces… things were really starting to get super cramped in there for the poor rock candy cake and I really wanted to give her some room to breath- the frosted melon wreck had been about ready to take down and for the past maybe 5 days I’ve been just giving it water trying to flush some of those nutrients out of the coco…(this could totally be bro science and without proper facts to justify this practice, all I can say is I’m coming from the school of thought that says fact or not, I’m okay with taking the cautious approach as long as it won’t have any negative impact on the plant….. that being said- if anyone has facts, please always feel free to stop by and drop some knowledge)
I wanted to take it down as I have some exciting projects in the works however, I didn’t have anywhere to put it where smell wouldn’t be an issue and with tricker treaters abound, I figured waiting another day would be in my best interest.
I took down the frosted melon wreck and am excited to get into that, my yields have noticeably doubled and it’s been consistent- I think this one may be even more than that which is awesome! And also proves that yes autos can be trained and all that (just be careful because stunting is a very real possibility)
With that down, I was able to move 2 of the wautomint into its place (I topped those two, but really didn’t do any training on them- I will blame the neglect at first on just pure distraction within the garden- I almost broke the one so I think I backed off a bit and then it just evolved into an experiment- I have 4 plants of the same strain trained in 3 different ways so I figured it would be a good opportunity for me to get a nice comparison in end yields for each method. I know to truly test this I should be working with clones off the same mother plant, but I’m working with what I have.
That leaves just one wautomint with the rock candy cake- I didn’t really touch that wautomint too much, I pretty much have left it in that back corner minus when I fertigate but the rock candy cake is another story-
I had noticed that it didn’t take long to see roots trying to poke out the sides of the bottom of the grow bag so I figured it was time to transplant-
I don’t have a bunch of space so this will definitely be the final pot- it actually came from my grandmother- I have no idea what size it is but if I had to guess, I’d say somewhere between 7 and 10 gallons?
It’s a shame that I don’t have more growspace, I literally sent a message to the breeder just letting him know that I could tell this plant had so much potential and would be an absolute BEAST if it wasn’t confined in a 3x3 but alas, that is what I have for right now and I will utilize it as best I can- I will easily be able to fill out that space and then after I do that, THEN I will flip into flower and just hope after tbe stretch, I see some spears form- we will see, I’ve only had one of the other but not both… either I’ve scrogged and got a BUNCH of bud sites but no spears OORRRR I have gotten a few spears formed from the main branches of the plant, so we will see-
I keep seeing pictures online that keep my glass half full and I will continue to strive for the results I see in those pictures- but like I said, I have certainly noticed a doubling in my yields so we’re doin good no complaints here-
With the rock candy cake, after transplanting, I waited a day (probably could’ve waited longer from a stress inducing perspective) to train the crap out of that thing! I usually poke holes in the fabric or plastic pots I use but this was made out of something else so I actually decided to just use bamboo stakes (I’m gonna have to watch out and be careful I don’t poke myself in the eye)
I was on my way into work this morning listening to the dude grows podcast and they were talking about a bamboo scrog net like set up that I will definitely have to look up- they said it looked really cool and in the closet, it’s been difficult for me to put up a scrog net so this sounds like an alternative method I might have to explore…
Something I noticed while training the rock candy cake was again, the presence of hollow stems- I don’t know if I am wrongfully associating it with the jacks 321, but I haven’t come across any hollow stems until I switched to those nutrients- my hypothesis would be that there is something no longer present that I lost during the nutrient switch- I am going to have to do some detective work to 1. Figure out if that statement is correct or not and 2. Figure out what it is that I lost that’s responsible for this whole hollow stem phenomenon… the only reason I mind, is that I really enjoy the training- I feel like a plant sculptor….. and now I feel like a dork because I said that out loud, but you know what? It’s true, I love seeing what it looks like before, right after training, and then seeing how it bounces back and just flourishes! The resiliency of this plant is amazing and took me, a guy that was far too timid to train during my first run and turned me into someone who has trouble waiting to train these things to see what happens.
I am running low on jars which is a great problem to have and will soon be venturing into the world of edibles… smoking is by far my favorite way to consume my favorite plants offerings- however my wife likes edibles and also with certain holidays coming up, it may be a good opportunity to bring some with me to share the wealth!
As far as what we have coming up? Well, I have some more genetics headed my way- pure breeding had a new drop that I got in on which is awesome and on that same night, I actually reached out to another person on the same podcast and have some of his genetics coming to me as well- beyond that, I have a couple loose ends I am trying to tie up and we may still have that bit of exciting news that I’ve been eluding to in my past few posts, coming to us right around the corner! My fingers are crossed VERY tightly for that!
All that being said, I think that about wraps up all the updates I have for you wonderful growers and enthusiasts this week- I am excited to get at it and return next week with some more exciting goings on in the growspace.
So until next time growmies- stay safe and may your gardens and harvests be bountiful 💚🤙
Hey there my fellow cultivators from around the world, I hope everyone had a fantastic and productive week! We are back at the beginning of week 7 with some more updates!
It’s been said that time flies when you’re having fun and I have to say at least in my perpetual grow, I have been having a blast and I feel like I blinked and we are already in the 7th week of the grow, 6th week of veg.
I am currently doing sometime in trim jail, and the gumming up of my scissors is getting me excited for the sticky goodness that will be curing for the next month and a half, I just have to get it all jarred up!
2 of the wautomint plants were a bit ahead of the others so I had taken those ones down and today will be hanging them to dry for 7-10 days or until the branch has the right snap that I try to look for- when I try to snap the branch, I am not looking for a clean break. I find when it gets to that point, it is a little too dry for my liking.
On one hand it’s awesome to see so much on that drying rack and then on the other it is quite daunting….. Trimming as I have mentioned, is a great problem to have, but admittedly happens to be quite the tedious task even when watching a good show or movie so I will have to do my best to keep up on that
The other two actually shouldn’t be too far behind, I plan on just giving them water from here on out and then I will be taking those down which will actually free up a whole tent! That tent is reserved for my upcoming semi secret project that I will be announcing on my next post most likely and I’m super excited!
Now with the perpetual grow, seeing this much un-utilized space, especially with so much great genetics in the queue waiting to be planted, is a bit painful and makes me twitchy but I am truly excited for what lies just around the corner! It won’t be a ghost town in the growspace for very long, oh no, we will have new residents in there! quite soon in fact!
That of course brings me to the star of the show which I always like to leave for last- right now, the rock candy cake has that space all to herself and she is enjoying it quite a bit! I am glad to be able to give her that whole area finally but it pains me to not have a larger space but that’s some thing I can strive for down the road-
As far as when I am going to flip to flower, I am basically waiting until she fills out the whole space by herself and then we will flip the light schedule to 12/12 but for right now we are going to keep on keeping on and I’m just goin to have to be patient. I absolutely cannot wait to see what this looks like all grown out! This thing is currently throwing out huge 11 point fans and I have no doubts that under the right circumstances, this thing could be an absolute monster in the best sense of that word!! 🔥🔥🔥🙌
As I had mentioned above, I have a long queue of great genetics just patiently waiting for their turn in the tent and although I am confined to these two spaces, that certainly has not stopped me in my hunt as well as acquisition of new quality genetics that I have been drooling over for a while now. I have included a picture of one of my most recent acquisitions and I think from here on out I will probably be including a couple pictures I have taken throughout the week and posted on my Instagram account. One of which was one of those killer 11 pointers that came from the rock candy cake after a little defol.
I defoliated just a bit and fimmed a few more times to see how it grows out- while I’m waiting for it to do what it’s going to do, I have to decide how I’m going to spread that canopy out from where it’s at currently- right now I have it staked and I can probably stretch it a bit more but I am seriously considering that bamboo scrog I mentioned last post. I think it could be really fun to make however every time I open that closet door and see the positioning of those stakes, I can’t help but feel that I may want to reconsider that previous statement.
In any case, it’s been a blast! I am always at the edge of my seat taking it all in. I love all this variety- strain to strain, pheno to pheno this has proven to be a most excellent adventure and I am honored that you have chosen to come along for the ride.
On that note, I think that about wraps it up for this week- I hope everyone has a great week. I hope you are all super productive, make great strides and revel in the fruits of your labor! Cheers everybody! 💚🤙
Hey there everybody!
We are back with an exciting update today at the beginning of week number eight and I can't believe how the time has flown.
In my recent posts you may have noticed that I have been alluding to an exciting bit of information that was headed our way, and it's finally here! I didn't want to mention anything too soon but everything arrived last night and now it's time! I have been blessed with the amazing opportunity to team up with Fastbuds and grow out some of their amazing strains and I could not be more excited!
Fast buds has been gracing me with its presence (and absolutely killing it!) in my garden from literally day one- these were the first genetics I had grown out period, not just of the auto flowering variety. I started out with wedding cheesecake and blue dreamatic and overtime, I have grown out even more of their strains and have always had consistently amazing results and I couldn't be more proud to be teaming up with them to grow out their fire genetics!
To start, we will be growing out their gorilla cookies and their strawberry pie and I threw in forbidden runs for good measure! I have started another journal exclusively for those strains so go check it out and don't mess whats happening over there-
With the rock candy cake I had reached a point where I had stretched everything out as much as I could with the bamboo stakes positioned as they were, so it was decision making time…. and what did I decide to do you ask? Well I decided to channel my inner Bob Villa and make a scrog net!
The scrog net was super easy and honestly quite satisfying to build, I just used some 3/4” pvc pipe, some connectors and some string and next thing you know, voila! A brand new custom made scrog net that fits the closet perfectly!
I started to weave the rock candy cake into the net a bit and I am slightly bummed, I had that canopy looking beautiful and now it looks ever so slightly janky as it is no longer AS evenly proportioned- I can get it back but it always makes me just a little sad after a heavy defol, but then of course it bounces back, flourishes and yields a heavy harvest soooo…. A necessary as well as temporary sacrifice…
The rock candy cake seems to be doing well, no visible signs of deficiencies, seems healthy and is growing steadily, bouncing back from the defoliation I had mentioned earlier. Before I defoliated, I actually thought I was a lot closer to filling out that 3 x 3 space but after some pruning I realized that I in fact, probably still have a good few weeks before I’m getting towards the edges so I will make like a basket maker and weave away.
Other than that, I am starting to prepare for winter and due to the fact that I was able to completely clear out one of my spaces I figured it would be the opportune time to move it to its winter home which is in a room with it’s on heater - so I moved everything over there and that will be where the fastbuds run resides. I will move them into that room when I transplant them but right now they are germinating in the same cubby area where I germinated the rock candy cake. So now it’s basically time to play a hopefully short round of the waiting game And time to eat some Wheaties because it’s about to be a trim marathon- all the wautomints are down, I have two ready to trim and two other that have maybe five days left to hang then some trimming.
Believe it or not, I have more exciting news headed our way and we may have some more good friends joining this party so be sure to stay tuned and we will meet here same time same place next week. That being said, I hope everyone has a super productive week- let’s go get it! 💚🤙🌱
Hey there growmies!
We are back with more exciting updates this week which in my disbelief, already marks the beginning of week 9!
This week it is my pleasure to announce that we have a new addition to our team!
They have been in our garden since literally day one. They offer a range of quality products at a budget friendly price point- anybody care to take a guess? It’s Mars hydro!
I first heard about them from Dr.cocos site and YouTube videos and lit up my very first space with their tsw 2000 and now we are fortunate enough to be partnering up with them! I am very excited to explore some of there other offerings!
With that being said, let’s get into it!
This week has been an adventure in itself! I blinked and that winter weather that was down the road? Is now here and here to stay! So some moves had to be made to make sure everyone is comfortable despite the colder temperatures that are now upon us-
It’s like the stars aligned and my buddy that introduced me to the wonderful world of growing, had come across an unopened Mars hydro 3x3 that he didn’t have space for and was wondering if I needed one- umm yes please!!!! So I happily took that off his hands and almost immediately started putting it together when I got home. I quickly came to the realization that this 3x3 was in fact a 5x5!! I let him know about the mix up and he said that if I had a use for it, I could hold onto it- needless to say, we are now rocking the 5x5 and are now confronted with the new questions- where will this go and what equipment will we use to power it?
I lucked out and my wife was cool enough to donate a portion of her jewelry studio for the cause and that’s where it will reside with the winter season… as far as how to power it? Well I decided that instead of just moving my spaces, I took down two of my 3x3s and am going to put all that good stuff into the 5x5- I had to choose either over powered or underpowered with the lights and ventilation and I decided to go with overpowered and I plan on doing my adjustments on the knobs/controllers.
The most painful part of the process thus far was the fact that I had JUST gotten a real nice canopy goin on the rock candy cake and now I had to undo all that I had done, just to move it all 20 feet as the crow flies…. Yup, that hurt… but alas, had I not moved it- she would’ve met a shivery death in her other location, it just wasn’t fit for winter so a bit more effort but well worth it in my opinion!
The rock candy cake did well with the move and i had been noticing some new growth- I let it go a few days before training it back down which I just got into today. I expect those tops will be turning up back up towards those lights over the next couple days so that canopy should be back in good shape before we know it! I am excited to flip it to flower but I am trying to show some self control and spread things out just a little more to get that 3x3 coverage. I can’t wait to see what she can really do! All that will be here before we know it! That being said, I think that just about wraps it up for this week, thank you growmies so much for stopping by! I hope everyone’s garden is flourishing and ramping up for some killer yields, and we will see you next time, same time same place- grower love everybody!!💚🤙🌱
Hello hello! And we are back at the top of week 10 and I can’t believe it! 10 weeks already!
Okay so to start off I am going to introduce to you, some new friends of ours that will be joining our team for this run- future harvest nutrients has been kind enough to let us test out their “holland secret tri pack” which includes 3 bottles: their micro, grow and bloom. They offer plenty of additives that can be used along side them but for this run we are just going to test out the three in this pack and will be adding to our arsenal from there.
This week I had spent quite a bit of time in the tent maintaining that canopy- literally hours defoliating and training and weaving away. I have to say every single time I defoliate I have mixed feelings… I know from experience that it bounces back even bigger and better than before but there hasn’t been one time yet where I have done a major defol and haven’t felt a little uneasy immediately after- something about taking a plant that is super lush and then stripping that away- generally speaking, I like to think of the fan leaves as the plants solar panels and try to leave any that aren’t blocking potential bud sites- but in all honesty, this time I was a bit more heavy handed in defoliating and took off a bit more than usual…
I did this for a couple reasons- one being airflow.. as I had mentioned above, it was getting pretty lush and dense and I didn’t want to overlook any areas that would create any microclimates that may eventually lead to things like bud rot 😟😬😱 so I defoliated to open it up a bit, and I will be adding my dual oscillating fan to increase the airflow.
And then I am also trying to really fill out the entire scrog net and create new bud sites and a lot of those fan leaves were getting large and as beautiful as they looked, they were covering up plenty of bud sites to be so they had to go. Up to this point I hadn’t done any major defoliation so there was a lot to do.
But once I took off all those leaves, then I COULDNT leave it like that…. I had to go in, clean everything up and tie everything back down. On one hand it’s kind of silly I had meticulously combed though that canopy considering the fact that one we flip it, we will start to see more variation in the branch/bud height- buuut on the other hand, the more even it is up until the flip the meet even it should be in the end and more bud sites should be produced.
One thing is for sure- I know that when I grow autos, the number one thing I miss is the ability to just play endlessly. You make a bit of a booboo, and no problem-your good in a matter of days or weeks. I need to just sit back relax and enjoy the process- patience is a virtue as they say.
I’ve recently heard someone say they never scrog because of the bud size and pixie stick stems… to this- I just say that I have done both- and I know as far as trimming, those spears are great and Really can be quite impressive however there is also something extremely satisfying about filling out a certain amount of space with one plant- and then watching it produce and yield for you. To be completely honest, from a yield perspective, I don’t know which one has worked out better for me. Usually they get jarred up and start to cure but i have never actually weighed after cure. This is something I do for my wife and I so my units of measurement aren’t in grams and ounces- no no it’s more of an “enough” or “not enough” type of deal and fortunately since day one there’s been no issue making sure we have “enough”
We are most of the way there (as far as approaching flipday) however, I imagine that with the goal of entirely filling out that net, we still have a few weeks.. it stinks because I am dying to flip that thing but I see we are making quite a bit of progress so I will try to sit tight and just let it do it’s thing- I expect that my fastbuds run will be finishing before this one so as long as I can stick to the game plan I think we are going to have some awesome stuff going on over here- which is great because I got in on that drop he did with green bodhi and snagged some Hindu root beer so that’ll get me super stoked to try that one down the line.
Growmies, as always- thank you for stopping by, you are the best and I hope all your gardens are super lush (apparently word of the day) and bursting with buds!!! I will see you next time same time same place, keep it real everybody, grower love!! 💚🤙🌱
Hey there growmies from around the world, we are back! I hope everyone had a wonderful week, and everyone’s gardens are doing fantastic! It is week 11, let’s get into it!
Back to the canopy we went this week as I had to get in there to maintain that shrubbery! it’s unfortunate, I didn’t have the same amount of time that I had last week to spend in the tent (at any one given time I mean) and I had to choose between defoliating and continuing to tie everything down to further expand the reach of that canopy. I chose the latter….
Hindsight being 20/20, I probably should have just defoliated first… In doing that , I would’ve improved the airflow, increased the visibility (for when it came time to tie stuff down) and would have just cleared it out a bit making it easier for me to tie things down and weave the plant through the net with LESS fear of damaging the plant. But alas, hopefully this is just something I’ll remember the next time I am faced with this decision….🤷♂️🏻
So despite all that I said above, I DID decide to tie everything down- it went well but felt a bit rushed. I got more done than I originally thought so that’s a plus!
The rock candy cake is doing excellent though, it seems to be liking the future harvest nutrients, as do the fast buds (they really had some substantial growth this past week)
The next few weeks will certainly be a test of patience, I kind of just have to let the plant do its thing while I wait for the canopy to fill out that net. She’s doing a beautiful job so far, but we still have a while yet (especially due to the fact that when I moved her into the 5x5, and had to scrog it all over again- she is no longer center so I still have a bit more to go on that one side) to tell you the truth, I’m probably more curious about what I’m going to do to keep it going on the short side.. we shall see.. sounds like next weeks problem. Something else I plan on doing is that much needed defoliation I was talking about- I might wait two more days just to make sure we are all good after yesterdays antics (the tie down) other than that,I think we will just have to see what’s in store for us this upcoming week, hopefully some insane growth, but I’ll take any progress haha just gotta keep moving forward! Either way, I am having an absolute blast and I hope to see my growmies here for week 12!
As always, I hope you are all killin it in your gardens and are able to enjoy only the most bountiful harvests! Later everyone!! 💚🤙🌱
Hey everybody! Welcome back to our pure breeding- “rock candy cake” grow! It is week 12 and without further adieu let’s get into it!
Now as you know we are currently in the midst of trying to get that canopy to extend to the very edges of that scrog net on all four sides- currently we are getting close with even a few branches extending over on a couple of the sides, but we still have a ways to go all the way to the left…
Due to the fact that we already have a few branches extending over the edge, I will have to do my best to continue to weave and tie, but in more creative ways so that I can keep those branches that will outgrow the net from starting to grow upwards until I flip to flower. I’m not too worried I have a lot of fun training and what I admittedly run into is more of a matter of not being able to spend to proper time in there for such maintenance but truth be told- for me, that’s one of my favorite parts of growing… working with and manipulating plants in a way that will change look, size and yield. I’ve gotten to learn new techniques and have more to try! I think it’s an active and exciting time to see how the plants respond, bounce back, and flourish after implementing those techniques. It’s not just sitting there in autopilot mode, you’re getting in there and changing things in a way that will hopefully benefit both you and the plant as far as growth and yield
One thing that has happened twice now that I thought was somewhat interesting and certainly less than ideal, the temps got up to 87 during the day and by the time i got home, the rock candy cake looked less than please to see me…there are a number of ways to deal with this- I think I am going to take some baby steps and try a couple things that may indeed end up being debatably pointless, but here is where I’m coming from on that, I COULD remove the ballasts from inside the tent and that would certainly drop the temp- however, it is just the beginning of winter and I am sure that I will end up needing the extra heat being generated. So I decided to treat it with a patch just a quick fix- I opened the windows of the room and the door to the tent to get some cooler air in there and I placed a fan above the lights and have an identical one on standby ready to go. I usually have a fan or two above the lights but honestly it just slipped my mind- I got caught up in the move.
It seems to be doing well now and we will find out tomorrow if I will need the other fan up there. It seems to get hot mid day so we’ll see what happens around that time. Other than that, all has been pretty standard we are just playing the waiting game stretching out that canopy. Next I will give it a bit of a defol so I can open things up and see what’s goin on in there, increase airflow, expose bud sites etc so I will have that to look forward to this week and as for what else? Well we will just have to wait and see!
Growmies, it has once again been an absolute pleasure! Thank you so much for stopping by! I hope you all have a great week and are able to enjoy all the fruits of your labor. May your gardens be booming and your harvests be bountiful and we will se you next time! Growers love everyone! 💚🤙🌱
Hey hey everybody! We are back here this week at the beginning of week 13 and it is almost that time… time to flip?
….I wish…. No, no…. I am trying to be good but I think I came up with a plan that will give me a rough idea of when I will see that light at the end of the tunnel- or we’ll at least flip that light to 12/12 haha-
No no it is almost Christmas and things have been crazy over here. With the holiday madness upon us, I can’t tell all of you how much I have appreciated the relative silence (you know how it is, there are multiple fans running) time seems to slow down and it just us and the plants. Quite enjoyable.
So as you already know, we are going to be on coast until we fill out the rest of that 3x3 scrog net- however just today on my way into work, I came up with what might be my new definitive plan…
I have had a bit of trouble waiting, no doubt it will be worth the wait, but the wait has been difficult none the less… so here it is..
Here’s what I’m thinking- I have this going and I also have some fastbuds growing in the same area. What I am most likely going to do- is wait until it’s time for the fastbuds to come down to open up some space in the 5x5 and the rock candy cake can have all that space to herself- I will shift the scrog into the center of the tent and then flip the light schedule to 12/12 and let it run wild- it’s at this point I will most likely employ a more hands off approach so it can focus all of its energy on producing buds worthy of such a wait.
The canopy is getting pretty lush and I really need to get in there and defoliate- I really lucked out, today was the last day I had to work until after Christmas so you KNOW I will be in there tomorrow plucking away at leaves (strategically of course) half kidding I’m probably still a whirlwind compared to some, but I’ve noticed- especially when it comes to autos, that my leaf selection has become much more refined when defoliating. PROBABLY gonna see a BIT less of that tomorrow as I have to open up the canopy but I still plan on being careful.
Something else that was super cool who may not be following along with the other journal, happened oddly enough just the other day when I was doing dishes- I was scrubbing away with my phone all propped up so I could watch/listen to dude grows. And I heard the dude mention a contest on their website that I had entered… of course my ears perked up, I leaned in a little closer to take a look and was thinking to myself how cool it would be, even to see my picture in the background and sure enough there it was and they brought it up and commented on the submission and seemed to be genuinely enthused by it and let me tell you I am STILL riding high off that one!
One thing that was cool too was a rep at a nutrient company had seen that and congratulated me as well and it was again just so cool and I’m honored to have been on there! I listen to them practically everyday at work- yeah words are not doing it justice right now but I was stoked!!!
Other than that, the holidays are practically upon us so I’d imagine it’ll be a whole lot of family activity with a side of unintentional neglect that I plan on keeping to an absolute minimum because we are right around the corner from some excitement in that tent- that thing is going to be HUGE! So we have that to look forward to! And on that note, I just want to say that from our home to yours, I truly hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and I can’t wait to come back and get into the garden talk with all my growmies! Growers love everybody and happy holiday!! 💚🤙🌱🎅🏼🎁🎄
Hello fellow cultivators from around the world! I hope you all had an amazing week whether it was spent celebrating or spent in the garden, I hope it was excellent! we are back for a post holiday update today and it is officially week 14!
As you may have guessed, we are still waiting for the branches to extend to the borders of the net before we flip- there’s not a whole lot of action going on right now to be honest, I am feeding her every day and just playing the waiting game.
I am however running into a problem, the problem is the fact that they’re just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day- with a full plate, it’s tough to get the time I need to tend to all that needs attention but in a perfect world I would probably spend a few hours in there in a clip in addition to my normal routine just getting in there tying things down and defoliating.
It’s a great problem to have as of now at least, she is very healthy and very lush, but if left unchecked I won’t be getting the light distribution I am after, I won’t be getting the airflow that I’m after and I might be welcoming microclimates that might induce some kind of mold or a powdery mildew issue which after all my efforts would be devastating. Sooooo I need to get in there is basically what I’m saying-
A week later and I still feel that my plan to flip once the fast buds are out of there is a good one.. They are all starting to flower so I’d imagine it would be around a month or so and hopefully by that time I will have reached the other side of that net and if for some reason I haven’t, then oh well, I’ll get her next time..I think she has done a great job however in the future I think I might change up my photo period Strategy- I really enjoy training these things out and I think if I had a couple more spaces it wouldn’t be such a problem but I feel like being confined to one tent it is just not really conducive to growing photoperiods the way that I do. I have a bunch of great genetics on deck ready to go and specifically as far as photos go- I have three in particular that are really burning a hole in my pocket-
1. 9lb hammer from jinxproof (that one was a present to myself and should be arriving any day)
2. Amy aces from TAO
3. Hindu root beer from pure breeding
I have a buddy who only vegges his stuff for about five weeks and definitely gets quite a bit of variety going throughout the year- I might try this and see how it goes or I have also never tried a sog so that might be some thing I look into down the road.
Other than playing the waiting game, I have done some impulsive holiday ordering and got a bunch of goodies for my grow!
Some of it came in today sir I can divulge that of which has already arrived- however will keep the rest the secret until it comes in due to the fact that I imagine there will be much more waiting in our near future so I need a little something to spice up our updates ha ha!
Today, I received both some recharge as well as some great white. I know I know, you aren’t supposed to use them together, and I won’t. However my friend that I mentioned above swears by a great white and I come from the recharge circle So I’m just going in with an open mind excited to try some thing that has come highly recommended from multiple growmies!
I also received the not as exciting but quite necessary pH down.. Ants finally wrapping up today’s shipment were two inkbird controllers-
One of course for temperature and the other for humidity. I am pretty stoked! This is the next step for me, dialing in some of these variables… I am excited to get those up and running I know that I am probably most excited to use those during the drying process- let me tell you, I find this to be the most anxiety inducing part of the whole process. Everything you have spent all this time working for can be lost in no time at all… it hasn’t been a huge problem but I know it can the better and I know that even more than that, it can be a little less stressful.. so fingers crossed for that ha ha!
Other than that I have a few more things coming in but like I said I’m going to keep those secret until they arrive. That being said, that is all for this week 14 update, I hope all of you are doing fantastic as are your grows and I will see you here next week for week 15 and more goodies to announce! Growers love!💚🤙🌱
Hey hey everybody! I hope everyone had a fantastic New Years. I would like to start off with my sincere apologies, I totally missed my usual post day (and day after 😉) life has been happening as it does and I have had to divert some attention but don’t worry, we have still been making some serious strides in the grow, specifically the set up- so that being said, I will delay no longer- let’s get into it!
So as far as the rock candy cake is concerned, we are still playing the waiting game. Over all she has been doing well but I would never lie to my growmies, she seemed a bit upset with me yesterday, I would say this could be a combination of two things (but I have theorized and come up with a few more scenarios)
What I think happened is that it got a bit hot in the tent, that in combination with the Coco trying out a bit quickly. My daily watering timeline isn’t ideal, I leave for work pretty early in the morning while it’s still dark and get home around 3:30- so I end up watering everything when I get home but this one only gets attention once per day- I think that the root system is quite extensive in there unfortunately leaning more toward the root bound side of the spectrum (my fault, I have grown WAY more autos than photos, so that was an error in judgement on my part- I just should’ve put her in something bigger) and I think she’s just taking up all that water pretty quickly and drying out the coco a little faster than I had hoped- I am however, making moves that will help me deal with this issue in the future-
I have included a picture of a little project I have been working on- I am trying to automate my fertigation and monitor some of my climactic variables to help me dial things in. I have mounted half of my growtekusa fertigation management system (and yes I ordered the other half, it will be here Wednesday ) right now that feeding four of my autos, I am just trying to familiarize myself with the system and I may be adding onto it down the road- because I think that is EXACTLY what the rock candy cake needs! Just a bit more frequent fertigation, keep the coco moist and not fry the roots.
The ink birds are mounted- currently I have a humidifier, a dehumidifier, heater but unfortunately my portable air conditioner is not here yet (also on the way) It’s funny, it’s winter there is snow on the ground and yet I am having heat issues- I can (and do) open a window and it’s obviously the cheaper more environmentally friendly option- but the issue I run into is I have neighbors kind of close, within earshot and there are a bunch of windows in that room (I know obviously not the most ideal room to do it in however it was the only one that had space)
And the fans although overall are relatively quiet, they definitely generate a noticeable amount of noise- it’s not a sound that the average person would have coming from their house and I am just not trying to draw any attention so I went with the air conditioner…
The good news is once it gets here I will be able to set a temperature and will be able to trust that my ink birds will be able to keep the girls nice and comfortable
Another exciting thing that I have to report is my shipment came in from future harvest so I now will be able to run their full line which you might have noticed in that little nutrient chart above.
I am really stoked to be able to get to try out some of their other offerings and to anyone that is considering using them, I would just like to add that not only have my plants loved them so far but literally everyone I have dealt with at that company has just been amazing to work with they have all been really good people and really personable so it’s really been a win-win so far for me!(not trying to tell people what to do or what’s the best, just wanted to say if you’re considering them, they also have excellent customer service and all make themselves quite available.
Anyway that’s about it for now, I have to go do a rain dance or somethings so FedEx brings me my air conditioner and we can get those temperatures right! I hope you are all doing well and your gardens are busting at the seams with big beautiful buds and I will catch you next time hopefully the same time (sorry again about that! ) and definitely the same place and have a great week!! Growers love! 💚🤙🌱
Hey hey everybody! I hope you all had a fantastic week and I am excited to be back for our latest update which marks the end of week 15 and the beginning of week 16!
Now I don’t know if it’s just me or the beginning of the year can be explained off as Mercury being in retrograde (I’m not saying it is, that’s more my wife’s deal- I wouldn’t know either way) but things have been absolutely nuts over here and I needed a little something good to help level out the crazy…
I have some awesome things in the mail (still rolling in from the spending spree I went on) but truth be told we were between deliveries, and I needed instant gratification- soo I may have accidentally brushed up against the timer and flipped to flower ( and by accidentally brushed up against, of course I mean I fully intentionally programmed the time to flip to flower in a moment of weakness…🤷♂️🏻)
Am I sorry? No… will it slightly kill me from an aspect of my struggle with occasional OCD? Oh yes…. Ohhhh yesssss…. That little corner is/was driving me nuts but I figured it was time to just let it do it’s thing- honestly once I noticed I picked a pot that was too small for what I was trying to do, I should have just there in the towel, flipped and taken it as a learning lesson for next time…. Buuuuut alas, I am stubborn and that is NOT how that went down… I’m still excited for what’s to come, we should have some (hopefully) pretty impressive things developing soon so I am stoked!
That being said however, I have also had some unimpressive things happen, for instance- yesterday, I go in to feed the girls and my light is off! I (obviously) must have screwed something up when I went to change the light schedule- specifically, due to the fact that there are 9 or 10 possible lighting schedules you can set, I think I had correctly set the on/off times BUUUUUT I think after I had switched to the next programmed on/off times which were incorrect-
I noticed when I saw that the lights were off, they should have been on for another three hours (give or take) - so I immediately started messing with the timer and turned the lights back on and continued to tend to those lovely ladies. I then went and made dinner- after, I just had this feeling that I should check on the tent, just in case- and sure enough, an hour after the lights were supposed to be turned off, there they were, on like grey poupon (I apologize I haven’t heard that in like a decade or more, had to
Hey there growmigos! Oh how I’ve missed my fellow growers! I apologize for the extended time away from grow diaries, to say that I’ve had my hands full so far this 2022 is an understatement but I am back with another update!
I sit here now writing this, inside as I watch the snow just coming down having flashbacks from a few weeks ago which was a narrowly avoided disaster…. That was easily the most eventful edge of my seat moment this grow, let alone since last update. So let me back track.
It was a few weeks ago and everyone is expecting to get a fair amount of snow in our area. Knowing this, I made prior arrangements to bring my work home with me and was planning on a nice quiet next day as I did what I had to do from the comfort of my own home as I watched the snow come down…. It did NOT go like that….
First off, I woke up took my dog out and quickly realized that we had not gotten snow, we got like three or 4 inches of ice….
Over 30,000 people in my county alone had lost power and a town between me and my job had declared a state of emergency and no one was to be on the roads…. Well where I live, we aren’t necessarily first in line to get our power back on. unfortunately what I thought may have been a few hours without power I was quickly realizing would be a bit more of an issue…
At this point they had gone 24 hours without light or heat- so I decide to try and get a propane heater- I go to the store…. Nothing….. hey no problem, there’s another store I can check right across the street- I got there, nothing… 8 stores later…. Everything is closing, and I have to get back to my house to start a fire so the pipes don’t freeze… defeated, I make my way back to my house- when all of a sudden- the stars align and I finally hit a bit of luck, the power company was leaving my street and then I notice… I see lights, WE HAD POWER!!! I ran inside, turned on my electric heater and covered the tent in blankets. I then started a fire in the wood burning stove and crossed my fingers tightly that hoping everything would be okay
Now I’ve never ran into this before, 48 hours no power no heat it definitely got below freezing and I didn’t know how much damage was done I didn’t know how long I should wait until considering myself free and clear of any negative effects from that kind of situation- so I went back to business as normal and kind of waited and observed…
I have to say I think this time I just got super lucky and she still seems to be doing great! I would say the back to business as usual and observing portion would be the couple weeks following that incident fast forward to now here we are another snowstorm on our hands but this time it’s actually snow! (Excellent news) don’t get me wrong it’s enough to inconvenience any plans you had anywhere besides your house but this time around we have power you have heat and we have just a little bit more time until I can take her down.
Don’t get me wrong we still have some time but for example I took out the jewelers loop to take a look at those trichomes to see how we are doing- so far so good I’m noticing summer cloudy but I don’t even think it’s a 50-50 mix yet so I still have some time I’m just trying to keep a close eye from here on out because I want to make sure that I stop feeding her at the right time and I can flush out some of those nutrients before we take her down.
It’s funny, this isn’t my first rodeo so Some thing I noticed is that it appears that I have been taking those successful grows for granted thinking that I would just be all good but nope. This was a humbling situation to say the least and I was definitely put in my place by forces out of my control. And I’m glad it happened the way I did, no harm no foul but there was a lesson learned to take away from it so hopefully if it happens again I will be more prepared!
I am glad to be back and apologize again for my extended absence but I am excited for not only this update, but we are right around the corner and we see the light at the end of the tunnel it’s been a long time coming with this one so excited it’s probably an understatement. I hope you all have been doing excellent and have been growing and enjoying beautiful harvest from your gardens and I will catch you next time hopefully the same time definitely the same place, growers love my friends! 💚🤙🌱
