November 1, 2023 Day 57 Strawberry Gorilla: Height: 16" DLI: 56 mol/mΒ²/d (too high) She's full of buds top to bottom. Needs no watering nor trimming. She's also in full swing flower now. Looking great. Although she is small, I expect some great results from her. She's definitely drinking quite a bit. About a third gallon a day. She'll be needing a reservoir refill in a day or two. She also stays perfectly moist from the wick system. Gorilla Cookies: Height: 34.5" DLI: 56 mol/mΒ²/d She's tall and healthy. Lots of bud sites. Front top to bottom. Internodal spacing is pretty good. Some places at the top, there's about an inch and a half of space between nodes. She needs no water today, but I expect to need a refill in a day or two. The wick system is also working perfectly. Perfect moisture level. I may take a couple leaves off throughout the week. Although, I don't think I'll take more than a couple. She's pretty well opened up. Leaf coverage is really good with nearly all the bud sites exposed. There are a couple really low bud sites and side branches that aren't getting a lot of light, but they are building either way. And not much smaller than the top buds. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.1Β° RH: 54.8% VPD: 1.24 kPa November 2, 2023 Both reservoirs were refilled today. They just dried out. Overnight. They are both drinking nearly about 1/3 gallon a day. Moisture levels for each of them is perfect. Strawberry Gorilla: This 16" plant has 14" of buds lining each and every branch. The colas are now starting to connect as the buds grow. They have a great cone shaped structure and plump pistils. Took a couple leaves off today. Just to uncover a few bud sites. Now that this plant has stopped growing, the canopy remained level. This 16" plant is short, but makes up for it with structure and bud production. Gorilla Cookies: This lady stopped growing as well. Her structure is a bit chaotic with a very uneven canopy. Several taller branches, some short branches and the rest are fairly level. The problem is that there are too many tall and short tops to consider this an even canopy. So there will be a variety of cola sizes. However, she has a lot of bud sites and great internodal spacing. And also great leaf coverage. Update: I changed my mind. I decided to do a light defoliation on both ladies. I had pulled the Strawberry Gorilla out to look at the leaf coverage and it was just a bit too much. Too many inward facing leaves. Gorilla Cookies got roughly the same thing. Not quite as much as her leaves are pretty spread apart, but there was a good amount taken off. Nothing super noticable. It's mostly on the inside of the plants. I'm trying to leave the outside leaves alone, but I'm starting to think they are a detriment to the spread of the plant. Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.9Β° RH: 54.7% VPD: 1.23 kPa November 3, 2023 Both ladies got a small top watering with recharge. I've learned from the reservoirs in the main tent that recharge is too gunky for the wick system. So from now on, the reservoir will be filled with nutes and no recharge. The recharge will be administered at the start of each week top feed. Strawberry Gorilla: Her buds are everywhere and getting nice and fat. Plump pistils and lots of trichomes. Super sticky. I popped a couple leaves off that were overshadowing other bud sites. Gorilla Cookies: This plant has some awesome colas and great internodal spacing. Her buds are small for now, but I think she will start fattening up in a few days. The Gorilla Cookies 2 that is flowering in the main tent has plump buds and started flowering a couple days before this lady. So I can expect the buds to start building rapidly in days. A small note. Originally Gorilla Cookies was drinking more water than the Strawberry Gorilla, but now they take in roughly the same. That being said, I find it super interesting what seems to be happening. The size between each plant is drastically different. However, with Strawberry Gorilla, the buds are really swelling now. So even though Gorilla Cookies is much larger, clearly the bud production on Strawberry Gorilla is going super strong. I dunno, I just thought it was an interesting observation. I wonder what's going to happen when Gorilla Cookies catches up. Double the size, double the intake? Maybe. More buds on Gorilla Cookies. πŸ€” I'll keep this theory going and make sure to notate it as the weeks go by. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.6Β° RH: 55.7% VPD: 1.30 kPa November 4, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This lady got a reservoir top off and some top watering. She was a tiny bit light. I'll clean out the reservoir when next it dries. She's got huge buds now and they are only getting fatter. This is by far the best of the 3 Strawberry Gorillas that I'm currently growing. Strange. This one is in a 1 gallon container and the other two are in 5 gallon containers. I need to figure out what I did wrong. This one is what I would expect in such a small container. The other 2 should be at least 3 times the size of this one. I just don't know. Anyway, regardless of her size, she's 16" with the whole plant covered in fat pistils covered buds. Colas will be roughly 12" maybe some are a bit longer. As long as they fatten up like they look like, I should see a decent yield. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is doing quite well. She is also full of buds up and down the whole plant. Internodal spacing is definitely longer than that of Strawberry Gorilla, but still a crazy amount of buds. Being as tall as she is, she will definitely end up with popcorn. I really don't want to cut more off, but there are several auxiliary branches that are way down and getting no light. I feel that I'm too late for pruning though. Oh well. I can't make extracts yet. (No equipment) but I can certainly sift and pull out all the kief I can. So far I've pulled 14 grams of it from when I started growing almost 2 years ago. I think that I can get way more this year with better genetics and more experience. However, with more experience comes less popcorn. But still plenty of trimmings to sift. She also got a reservoir top off today. Nothing else to be done now. It's all about bud production. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.6Β° RH: 54.9% VPD: 1.29 kPa November 5, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Looking good. Buds are building up. No need to water today. Nothing done. Gorilla Cookies: Looks good. A little droopy today. I'll keep an eye on her. She got a reservoir refill as well. Building buds and starting to smell. Not much else to report. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9Β° RH: 56.6% VPD: 1.25 kPa November 6, 2023 Not much going on today. Gorilla Cookies for a reservoir top off and that's about it. Strawberry Gorilla: super fat buds already. Tons of trichomes. Very sticky leaves. Greasy and getting smelly. Gorilla Cookies: Her buds are looking good. Stacks are nice and spaced for maximum swelling. I also like this spacing. It makes trimming a bit easier. No leaves taken off of either lady today. They are both perfect in foliage. So this is it for the rest of the run. I may pull a leaf or 2 as the bud swell more. Update: I pulled a few leaves off of both ladies. Like 3 each, but thought I'd update. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.9Β° RH: 56.0% VPD: 1.32 kPa November 7, 2023 Last day of week 8 and both ladies are going super strong. Tomorrow, they will get top feeding with recharge and full reservoirs. So I have a small issue with this grow. In the next 2 to 3 weeks, there will be a couple Strawberry Gorillas being harvested from the main tent. This tent is my drying tent. So what I'll have to do is take these 2 ladies out and swap them with the Harvested plants. The issue is that the light is different, the environment is slightly different and the size of these plants makes it fairly tough to organize. I've already looked into it and I think everything will be fine. The larger Gorilla Cookies will be placed in the back of the tent and the smaller Strawberry Gorilla will be placed at the front. Hopefully I have enough risers to put her up to the canopy. The Gorilla Cookies won't have any issues and may be taller than the canopy anyway. Strawberry Gorilla: This lady is producing some massive buds. Tons of pistils. Lots of trichomes. She isn't as far along as the 2 in the main tent, but she is bigger and healthier I think. She should end up with some 8" colas. Gorilla Cookies: This lady looks great! She is starting to swell her buds now. Packing on a bit of weight as well. I can tell by the sway of the tops. Soon enough those tops may start pulling the tops over. Hopefully the branches are strong enough to not snap. She got a slight top off today. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.5Β° RH: 57.1% VPD: 1.31 kPa I'd like to note here that this environment seems to be a bit more stable than that of the main tent. It has to be the big Gorilla Cookies in there. It's covered in leaves and let's off a lot of moisture.

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

Prilyfe13commenteda year ago
@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
