November 29, 2023 Day 85 This week we focus on watering and plants at 2 different stages. It shouldn't be too hard. Strawberry Gorilla: She got a reservoir top off with Flawless Finish. Looks great! Purples are starting to come in on the leaves. Her buds have a nice purple hue and I can expect even better buds after this flush and her fade. Gorilla Cookies: She is still in the mid flowering stage. I'd say another 2 weeks of flower before flush. Her buds are definitely fattening up. Today alone I noticed a big change in her main cola. Nice and fat. Big flowers coming out everywhere. She looks like she's going to be super chunky. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.0° RH: 53.0% VPD: 1.33 kPa November 30, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This lady is looking great! The flush seems to have brightened her leaves a bit. A great sign! Her buds are fat and heavy. I can't wait to see this fade. She already has purple hues coming out on the leaves. This is going to be my prize Strawberry Gorilla I think. One of the others in the Main Tent may actually be bigger, but it's tough to tell because they are in vastly different container sizes. So this one could be an illusion of size and the other in its 5 gallon container makes the plant look smaller, but this could also be an illusion. I do t think so though. I'll find out when harvest comes around. 1 to 2 weeks left for this lady. Gorilla Cookies: So I now have some concerns. This plant seems to have foxtails everywhere. I could be wrong, but I'm familiar with them. So this plant may not turn out as bountiful as I originally thought. However, she still has a good 3 weeks left... Maybe a little less. But that's plenty of time to build those buds up. We shall see. I'll keep doing what I can to keep her healthy and happy. She seems to have taken well to the watering from yesterday. Let's hope she does just as well in the end like the 2 in the Main Tent. Update: I was taking a closer look at Gorilla Cookies and noticed it's just the upper colas that are doing the foxtailing. I could be wrong. But I'm pretty sure it's a light issue. The light is topped out and close to the 3 main tops. We shall see. The rest of the plant still has small buds. But they are forming more evenly. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.4° RH: 53.9% VPD: 1.26 kPa December 1, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: The Flawless Finish is already producing results. Her leaves are starting to turn purple and fast. There was just a little bit here and there. And today she's covered in beautiful purple colors and hues. Some pink on the buds with dark orange pistils. And she's covered in trichomes. She will be absolutely gorgeous at this rate. So excited. Her water intake is pretty good. She's drinking roughly a third of a gallon a day. It's pretty good intake relevant to her size. Gorilla Cookies: I really can't tell if her tops are foxtailing. Some of the buds on the other Gorilla Cookies in the Main Tent are doing the same thing but not as drastically. If this is foxtailing, I is definitely the light distance. The lower part of the canopy has no signs of foxtailing. Not yet at least. I still could be wrong. This could be how she grows. I dunno yet. Anyway, she is doing quite well with this dose of nutrients. She's thirsty and drinking close to a half gallon of water a day. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.1° RH: 52.3% VPD: 1.35 kPa December 2, 2023 It's raining today so it's a little humid. Nothing bad, but a little bit higher than I'd like. Over 50% instead of under 45%. No big deal. It's still in range. Strawberry Gorilla: She cleared out the reservoir overnight I think. So she got a full reservoir refill this morning. The fade is kicking in more and more. She definitely looks like she will be done in about a week or so. Maybe a little bit longer. I'm still expecting a bit more weight to be put on and maybe a bit more swelling. Gorilla Cookies: This lady is still looking like she won't produce much, but I have a feeling that won't be the case. Her buds are putting on weight. Especially the top colas. Still looks like foxtailing, but either way, the colas are getting fat now and that means the lower tops will catch up soon enough. Maybe not as big, but still decent and dense. I'm counting on the density of the strain to make up for the small buds. She also emptied her reservoir last night, so a reservoir refill was in order. Everything looks good now. I'd also like to add that I should have defoliated this plant better in the center. It's really crowded and squished. That is mostly due to the compact space she is in. Honestly, I think she will do much better when she gets into the Main Tent. That should be in 7 to 10 days. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.1° RH: 53.1% VPD: 1.38 kPa December 3, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She looks great! The fade is starting to really show now and a ton of her leaves are turning a nice deep purple. I can't wait for her to finish up and see what this fade looks like. She needs no water today, but maybe tomorrow. Also, I haven't checked the bud density in a bit, but her buds look more dense now. With a week or so left to go, she may pack on even more weight. Gorilla Cookies: This lady is building her buds up now. Over night her main top puffed up 50%. Still looks like foxtails, but now big fat foxtails. The rest of the plant as I thought is starting to catch up. The lower part will end up with a lot of larf I think. But the tops should be nice and dense. Can't wait to see the end result. 3 to 4 weeks left I think. Update: I took a pic of one of the colas on the Strawberry Gorilla and it's beautiful. Purple leaves. Dark orange pistils. Some beautiful tequila sunrise colors. What a wonderful start to her fade. It took a few days, but there she goes. Another week like this and she will be perfect. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.8° RH: 54.4% VPD: 1.37 kPa December 4, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She looks absolutely beautiful now. Purple leaves everywhere. Buds are super dense and the smell is dank. They're also a nice deep purple with some pink hues. Trichome production is spot on with her stage. Week 1 of flushing almost over. Another week or so and she will be ready for harvest. Maybe up to 10 days. Just to really get those cloudy trichomes. There's still too many clear, but also lots of cloudy and an amber here and there. Her leaves aren't shedding yet, but I think that will come soon enough. She got a reservoir refill today. It's taking roughly 2 days to empty it out, so I need to keep an eye on it. Gorilla Cookies: She's definitely starting to swell her buds. I would say another 2 weeks or so in flower, then a week or 2 of flushing. So maybe 4 weeks left. She needed a reservoir refill today. I added the cal/mag back in for now. She is starting to show a deficiency of either nitrogen or calcium I think. It's still early, so everything should be good now. She's also just too dense in the center of the canopy for any of the light to really penetrate below the main tops. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 55.8% VPD: 1.28 kPa December 5, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Nothing going on with her today. Just drinking the water and fading away. Very beautiful plant. I'd say another week of flushing before harvest. I may do a final defoliation on her in like 5 days. Just before she is supposed to be harvested. I am predicting around 2 to 3 oz out of this one. Gorilla Cookies: Nothing going on today as well. Just drinking her feed and getting dense. Another 2 to 3 weeks left of flower for this one. Then a week or 2 of flushing. It's really hard to tell, especially in the condition she's in, but I'm guessing 2 to 3 oz for her as well. The lack of large side branches leaves me concerned for her yield. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.8° RH: 48.5% VPD: 1.49 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

Looks great my good man...both of these ladies! Nice work! We missed the opportunity to try FIM'ing our little gorilla (I was missing in action and came back too late to attempt it). Will have to have a go at it NEXT TIME. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with here...once again, nice work!

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
