October 25, 2023 Day 50 This week will focus on lighting and canopy management... As well as I can do it. I'll be pulling the Nirvana nutrient as well. Both plants will now get Big Bud. Although, I'm pretty sure I had Big Bud last week, but either way, it's now official. Strawberry Gorilla: Although she is a short plant, she has a pretty flat canopy and really nice bud coming out. Her internodal spacing is pretty tight compared to the Gorilla Cookies, but a bit longer than that of the other 2 in the main tent. I'll be topping the reservoir off today as well. Anyway, her leaves are super healthy and her stacks are nice and strong. Getting longer as well. Which means I won't need to defoliate as much if at all anymore. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is just ridiculously tall for a 1 gallon container at 27" now. She definitely takes the cake when it comes to the size of these 2. She got a reservoir refill today and a couple leaves pulled to open the central space. I was going to try and train the taller tops down, but there's no chance of that. So I'm just going to let her finish growing. Anyway, her structure is near perfect. Leaf coverage is spot on. No need to defoliate at all. Just picking leaves off here and there. Under the canopy is nice and cleaned up. Everything is looking great. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.5° RH: 59.9% VPD: 1.14 kPa October 26, 2023 The tent is full. So very full. The plants are obviously not super big, but they are big enough to fill it up. Strawberry Gorilla: This one is still growing. Not quickly or anything. Which brings me back to my original issue. Why are all 3 of these plants small and roughly the same size regardless of container size. She's still super healthy and very happy. No issues whatsoever. I removed a couple leaves. Her watering is perfect. The bottom feed system is working quite well. So I really don't understand how small she is. Gorilla Cookies: She is a skinny beast. Super tall. Lots of stacks. Tons of branches. Foliage is perfectly spaced out. No need to snip anything off quite yet. She also seems to be slowing down a bit. However, she still has plenty of time. It's still early flower and I would think she has another week or so to stretch. Not much, but maybe another couple inches. We shall see. As of right now, she is at the perfect height for the setup. She can go another 2 inches or so, but then we are in the high 40s maybe even low 50s for DLI. It's only a 100 watt light, so I don't think I'm in danger of light stress. I noticed today that her container is a bit light. The roots are coming through the whole bottom of the container. What I've noticed is that when the roots get to that point, the soil starts to dry out. I assume it is because the roots are taking up all the water from the bottom at a faster rate than the wicks can handle. I think I'll replace the wicks and create a different pattern. That may help with the absorption rate. I can also add more wicks. I'll try that today and check back in tomorrow. If it doesn't work, I guess I'll have to top feed until runoff to prime the soil again. Other than that, she is super healthy with great color and strong branches. It's raining today, so the humidity is a bit high. I've been fighting it all morning. But I should be able to fix it in a few hours. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.7° RH: 63.3% VPD: 1.05 kPa October 27, 2023 Both ladies seem to be done stretching. Strawberry Gorilla may still be stretching a little, but Gorilla Cookies is done. A total of 29" in a 1 gallon fabric container. Strawberry Gorilla: She has plenty of bud sites. Still small, but the amount of tops should certainly make up for the stature. She got a reservoir refill today as well as a bit of a top feed. Just enough to get her back to the proper soil moisture level and keep the bottom feed going. Her colors are amazing too. Great bud structure, nice and healthy. Tons of side branches. So tons of tops. Gorilla Cookies: She got a full reservoir refill and a nice top feed as well. She was a bit light, so why not water until runoff. This plant is perfect with her foliage and tops. Long and stretched with tons of bud sites all down the stacks. I cannot wait to see how these colas develop. Happily, because she seems to have finished stretching, the leaves are starting to grow more. Beautiful 5 finger leaves coming from the tops. Side branches are looking good. But the lower bud sites still have those 3 finger leaves. I still have no idea what that means. It's definitely not a genetic thing. Not when 4 different strains did the exact same thing. I pulled a couple leaves off to open up a couple tops as well. Now it's just a watch and wait. Keep them watered and fed. Ensure leaves don't cover bud sites. Then overall, leave them alone. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.8° RH: 63.8% VPD: 1.12 kPa October 28, 2023 So we are fighting humidity again. No idea why it's so wet, but it's really frustrating. Anyway, I'll be fighting that all day and tomorrow. Strawberry Gorilla: Great stacks and flat canopy. Still small, but I can work with it. Maybe I'll try just Strawberry Gorilla alone next time I run it. Anyway, she is healthy, strong and lush. Great foliage. Tons of tops. Gorilla Cookies: This lady hasn't stopped stretching. She isn't taking off anymore, but she grew another inch last night. She may have a bit more in her, but not much. Also, I noticed that the 3 finger fan leaves have stopped and now all the new growth is showing beautiful 5 finger fan leaves. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.6° RH: 66.4% VPD: 1.03 kPa October 29, 2023 Both plants look fantastic. Each will be getting a reservoir refill today. Not much else going on. Strawberry Gorilla: She had a couple leaves pulled today. Not much, just a couple. Oh, I can't remember if I mentioned it, but I raised this plant up with a taller box. Now the whole tent has a level canopy. She might be a bit taller than Gorilla Cookies main canopy, but she is loving the light now. I think I figured out what the problem could have been. Not enough light during the veg period and into the flowering stage. Once I lifted her up, she started praying almost immediately. I need to remember to ensure praying at all times. However, she is absolutely covered from top to bottom in stacks and bud sites. And I mean covered. She may not be tall or big, but she is packing on so much, I feel like she will completely overtake the whole plant. I may have to remove quite a few leaves to accommodate the space needed for the buds to swell up unimpeded. Update: I found that 2 branches of Strawberry Gorilla had space to be pulled out a bit to make more room in the center canopy. Gorilla Cookies: This plant still has a tiny bit of stretch in her. Mostly the stacking of the buds, but also a bit of internodal spacing. As I said before, I don't expect her to stretch anymore, but a little bit won't be too bad. She is super close to the light with her very tallest colas. There's only a few, but they are around 9" from the light. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.8° RH: 64.8% VPD: 1.05 kPa October 30, 2023 Absolutely nothing happening today. So this entry will be pretty short. Strawberry Gorilla: Looks great. The whole plant from top to bottom is covered in buds. The tops are all level and even. She isn't too big, but I don't expect big. But the structure and amount of buds tells me she will most likely yield a big number. Gorilla Cookies: Tall and covered in buds. The colas are long and the internodal spacing is really nice. It should give each bud unimpeded space to grow and swell. No watering today. I can't move the light even if I wanted to. It's been topped out. Definitely wish I had a taller tent. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.7° RH: 57.8% VPD: 1.20 kPa October 31, 2023 Happy Halloween! Nothing happening today with these 2. No water needed, no trimming needed, no touching or training. Just let them be for now. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is impressive in her bud production. She isn't tall, or big, or anything, but where she makes up in size is the fact that the whole plant is mass of buds and short colas. Internodal spacing is super tight as well. So not only is she covered in buds, but they are all super close to each other. So I can only imagine the way she will look in the weeks to come. Gorilla Cookies: She has longer internodal spacing but not too much longer. She still seems to be stacking as well. No really stretch or anything, just some nice buds coming in. She's mostly covered in buds as well. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73° RH: 60.4% VPD: 1.11 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
