December 13, 2023 Day 99 This week we focus on getting Strawberry Gorilla harvested and dried. We will also focus on keeping Gorilla Cookies clean of any dead leaves to help prevent any mold, but rot, buds or whatever else a dead set of leaves will cause. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is so very beautiful. Purple leaves and buds with bright greens. Every single bud on the plant is rock hard. Even the lowest popcorn buds are super dense. I can't wait to see what she yields. Also, she is totally covered in sticky trichomes. Mostly cloudy with a decent amount of amber. Next to no clear. I'm going to wait a couple days to make sure she is completely ready to go. I'm letting her dry out now. Should be a day or 2 before she starts to show signs of stress. I really cannot get trichome pics. I shake too much and my phone doesn't have a true macro camera. And the silly little clip on one is terrible. I'll be purchasing a wireless handheld microscope. I'll get pics of the trichomes on Gorilla Cookies when she is ready for them. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is starting to look pretty good now. Buds are swelling, branches are starting to lean a bit. Main colas are heavy and everything looks to be back on track. She got a reservoir top off today. I may do a small top feed just to get some recharge in the soil. I may wait for tomorrow and run the top feed until runoff. It should only take around a liter as she is currently at a perfect moisture level. But I really need the recharge in there. So top feed we go. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.7° RH: 44.9% VPD: 1.58 kPa Update: I decided it's time to put Strawberry Gorilla in a 48 hour dark period. Joining her is another Strawberry Gorilla from my main tent. Gorilla Cookies was moved to the main tent. Everything seems to have worked out pretty well. Both plants are on the floor and should stay nice and dry there. The vents are bringing in the dry air and the dehumidifier is really small, so this should do the trick. Gorilla Cookies has plenty of space and I think a little bit better light penetration. We shall see. It is a brighter light. December 14, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 1 of the Dark period complete. I'll be harvesting tomorrow afternoon. So far from what I've seen today, she is maturing at a nice rate. Can't wait to see the end result. Gorilla Cookies: She definitely has a bit more room in the Main Tent. The light is higher up, so a bit more light space and penetration. Hopefully the change doesn't stress her out too much. She will be needing a reservoir top off at some point today or tomorrow. I was also considering a light top water with recharge. Dark Tent Environment: Temp: 68.5° RH: 44.5% VPD: 1.33 kPa December 15, 2023 Day 101 HARVEST Day Strawberry Gorilla! Strawberry Gorilla: 101 days of growth and here we are. HARVEST DAY! Updates will be in the harvest tab. Gorilla Cookies: She seems to be doing well in the main tent. I don't see any extra stress. Buds are fat and getting fatter. I'd say she'll be ready for flush in about 10 to 14 days. In the meantime, her main cola looks like the end of a club. Huge and the foxtails are super fat. Maybe they will swell and connect after all. She got 1 liter of nutrients top feed today. She also got a reservoir refill. No stress from the watering. Hopefully it spurs her on to bulk up some more. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.9° RH: 47.0% VPD: 1.48 kPa December 16, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 2 Drying Gorilla Cookies: She is very happy in her new home. More space all around and deeper light penetration. Airflow is also much better due to the extra space in the Main Tent. Hopefully she will mature a bit faster in the lower section of the plant. There really isn't a canopy with this one. It's kind of just all buds and long branches. She did kinda get away from me. She needs no water today and nothing else. I was going to rotate 90°, but the light penetration is really good where she is right now. So I'll leave it this way. For now at least. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.8° RH: 49.0% VPD: 1.37 kPa December 17, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 3 Drying. Temp and RH are in range. Everything seems to be fine. Another 4 days or more. Gorilla Cookies: She looks better. Much happier with the extra space. I'm still not going to rotate her. She has the best light from this spot. She got a reservoir refill today. So I'm looking at her buds and I'm not seeing that many orange pistils in the lower part of the plant. I don't think she will be ready for flush for another week. I could be wrong. I'll check next week and see where she's at. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.4° RH: 46.1% VPD: 1.47 kPa December 18, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 4 Drying Gorilla Cookies: Definitely gonna have a ton of larf and popcorn. The top half of the plant is foxtailed and the main canopy is a mix of nice buds and foxtails. No water needed today. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.3° RH: 48.9% VPD: 1.40 kPa December 19, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Day 5 Drying Gorilla Cookies: She's getting close to needing a flush. Half of her pistils are orange now. I'm just waiting for the trichomes to start turning cloudy. It should be less than a week for that. No water needed today. Nothing else needed. An interesting note. This plant is receiving the exact same nutrient regimen as the 2 Gorilla Cookies in the Main Tent. Those ones started shedding leaves a week ago. But this lady hasn't shed a single leaf. I wonder why that is. Weirdly enough, this plant has faced the most stress of all the plants I'm growing. Nitrogen toxicity, light stress, then some other stressor I'm not aware of. I'm going to top feed tomorrow with recharge. Just a liter. Enough to get a small amount of runoff if any at all. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.9° RH: 47.2% VPD: 1.42 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

Looks great my good man...both of these ladies! Nice work! We missed the opportunity to try FIM'ing our little gorilla (I was missing in action and came back too late to attempt it). Will have to have a go at it NEXT TIME. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with here...once again, nice work!

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
