October 4, 2023 Day 29 A new week and a new reservoir. Full of nutrients. I believe the single gallon of water can last the week, or at least half of it. So the next watering will be with plain water. Then back to nutrients. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is doing so great! I'm not sure if the FIM took, but there are a lot of tops and leaves. I was considering defoliation for this one, but I think I'll hold off for now. She got a couple of adjustments as well. Everything looks great. Gorilla Cookies: This plant got a defoliation today. Well, kinda. I cut the main stem fan leaves off and that was it. Nothing else needed to be snipped. I think I'll do a full pruning and defoliation just after the flowering stretch. I'll continue training side branches for the rest of the grow as needed. The top is still healing, so I won't be pulling that down at all. I guess I'm gonna have a big top for this one. It's ok though, I have 2 others perfectly trained in the main tent. Grow System Environment: Temp: 79.3° RH: 67.7% VPD: 1.12 kPa October 5, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This lady is getting big. Her leaves are massive and she has plenty of side and auxiliary branches with more and more coming in. I may snip off the main stem leaves. Just to open up the bottom of the plant. No watering needed as the Bottom feed system is working in full force. No need to top water at all. Gorilla Cookies: This plant looks great! She has long branches. And with the fan leaves off, there's plenty of room for even more and more air flow. She got adjustments done to the branches to spread them out even more. Update: I found a deficiency in both Strawberry Gorilla 1 and Gorilla Cookies 2. Then I realized me error. I am bottom feeding like Hydroponics. I can't run plain water until they are drinking the full gallon a day. Or maybe plain water top feed once a week. Anyway, I cleaned out all the reservoirs and refilled them with a gallon of nutrients. Let's hope this clears it up and starts growing like crazy. Also, Gorilla Cookies 1 has a bunch of super long roots coming from the bottom of the container. None of the other plants have roots even showing. I wonder what happened? Anyway, very interesting. Grow System Environment: Temp: 79.8° RH: 67.9% VPD: 1.13 kPa October 6, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: I've decided to snip the stem fan leaves off today. She's really starting to get bushy and crowding up. She's also starting to interfere with Gorilla Cookies so I made some positioning adjustments as well as made training adjustments. She looks great. She also needed a reservoir top off today. Strange. She must be getting really thirsty. These are 1 gallon pots with 1 gallon reservoirs. Gorilla Cookies: This lady looks great and seems to have taken well to the defoliation. Her branches got significantly longer, so they were trained down. I still can't touch the top, so hopefully I still get some really nice side branching. Maybe this will be it for training. Maybe an adjustment here and there. But I want to catch up with the top. So training we shall do. Grow System Environment: Temp: 78.4° RH: 69.2% VPD: 1.03 kPa October 7, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This plant is doing fantastic. She's bushy and well trained. The FIMming really made a difference I think. The 2 in the main tent aren't quite as big. But that is due to container size. She will be done in maybe 7 weeks? Hopefully it will only be 7. That would be awesome. Gorilla Cookies: The top healed! So I gently pulled the very top of the top down to help side branch growth. I'll be checking on her a few times today, just to make sure the top doesn't start to break again. It shouldn't. The main top is really pliable and I didn't touch where the break was, but it's definitely strong enough to hold the tie down. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.7° RH: 67.8% VPD: 1.01 kPa October 8, 2023 Both ladies got a little bit of a top off in the reservoirs today. Environment is wonderful as the outside weather has finally leveled out and cooled down. Strawberry Gorilla: She is bushy, healthy and branchy. Very nicely growing plant. The LST is doing wonders. Her leaves are a beautiful lush green. Her branches and stem are nice and strong. A small adjustment was done to the top today, just to keep the canopy level and to increase this wonderful branching. I almost pulled a couple more leaves, but will hold off for a few more days and see how she looks. Gorilla Cookies: She looks great! The canopy is still nice and open from trimming those leaves the other day and it's showing. She had the top readjusted and there's no issue with weakness. Perfect for training in my opinion. I did do a bit of push down training on one branch. I could pull it down, but the few days of holding it in place really works. Might as well go all the way. Her structure is quite nice and I think will be tall and level. I'm thinking some decent node spacing. That's what it looks like anyway. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.1° RH: 65% VPD: 1.06 kPa October 9, 2023 These 2 will be needing a reservoir refill tomorrow. I've also been fighting 74% RH today. No idea why. Maybe it's due to them filling the tent up already and growing exponentially overnight. The tent canopy is level and spread out nicely. Strawberry Gorilla: This lady needed no training at all today. Honestly, I don't think will do anymore training except here and there to keep auxiliary branches from climbing over the canopy. My goal is to let her grow vertically now. The nodes spacing is fantastic for the structure I'm after. So I'm quite happy. Gorilla Cookies: She looks amazing! Branching is perfectly level with the top. Flat even canopy. Very happy plant. I made a tiny adjustment to the top tie down. Just to keep the top from growing for now. Her leaves are filling quite nicely as well. Just a beautiful site. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.7° RH: 70.2% VPD: 0.86 kPa October 10, 2023 Nothing to train today. The canopy is perfectly level. I do have a trellis somewhere for this tent. I may use it to keep the canopy in the same shape. Both plants got reservoir refills today. Full nutrient solution. Also, the reservoirs don't hold a full gallon. More like just over a half gallon. Both plants are happily developing 7 finger leaves. I also think I see some 9 finger leaves coming in as well. I think that's a sign of good health. If not, someone let me know in the comments. Strawberry Gorilla: Is a thirsty plant. She has cleared 2 reservoir top offs in the last 5 days. She also almost tried out from one night of no water. I'll have to keep a better eye on it and not let the reservoir dry up. Her foliage is lush and full. The whole plant has a wonderful layer of fan leaves with all the bud sites popping out. Gorilla Cookies: She's looking great! She was almost empty in her reservoir, so watering wasn't needed immediately, but it's better to keep them at the same level as I can. Branches are really starting to reach and we have a wonderful coverage of leaves. They aren't hindering the branches either. Leaves are lush and a beautiful green. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.8° RH: 64.2% VPD: 0.99 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

Looks great my good man...both of these ladies! Nice work! We missed the opportunity to try FIM'ing our little gorilla (I was missing in action and came back too late to attempt it). Will have to have a go at it NEXT TIME. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with here...once again, nice work!

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
