November 8, 2023 Day 64 This week will focus on just watering. Neither plant needs any maintenance nor anything else. I'll top feed them tomorrow I think. They don't really need it. But they will need some recharge soon enough. Strawberry Gorilla: Super fat buds coming through. Very healthy and I've learned what the issue is with the size. After speaking with FastBuds, we discovered it's a ruderalis phenotype. That explains the 3 fingered leaves and the stunted size. Although, I don't think this one had as much of an issue with the growth. She's definitely got a few weeks left. Gorilla Cookies: This plant looks great! Super healthy and buds everywhere. They are starting to swell more now. She needed a reservoir refill today. She was bone dry. I also need to remember to pull that reservoir out and clean it. I'd say she has about 4 weeks left. I've noticed that the Gorilla Cookies is slower to build buds. But I also feel like they will swell up just as much. Can't wait! Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.7° RH: 54.1% VPD: 1.36 kPa November 9, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She will be getting a top watering today when my nutrients arrive. She looks wonderful with her swelling buds and trichome production. I can expect some pretty impressive results from this one. Gorilla Cookies: She will also be getting a top watering today. Her leaves are a bit droopy today. Not sure what it is. I'm guessing a slight nitrogen toxicity. I'll back off on the base grow. Other than that, she looks great. Swelling buds cover the whole plant. Update: Both ladies got about a quarter gallon of top feed today. I also topped off both reservoirs. Grow System Environment: Temp: 74.1° RH: 52.5% VPD: 1.37 kPa November 10, 2023 Nothing going on today. Just some pictures. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant has some wonderful swelling buds. Lots of trichomes and beautiful green leaves. No watering needed. Gorilla Cookies: She's a bit droopy still. I'm wondering if I over watered her a bit. I'll keep an eye on her. If she starts to claw then I know it's a nitrogen toxicity. I'm not really sure what would cause it. I'll probably have to flush her in a couple days. Her buds are all over the place, but seems a bit airy and wispy. It's still early. I'm sure they will bulk up to some dense nugs. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.2° RH: 53.4% VPD: 1.40 kPa November 11, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Nothing to do today but to observe. Buds are getting fatter. She might end up being one mass of nugs. She has serious potential here. Maybe a good yield from this plant. She also got a top off this afternoon. Gorilla Cookies: Still droopy at the top and the top only. Light stress? I'm thinking maybe over watering now. Nitrogen deficiency could be the other option, but I'm not seeing real clawing. It's droopy not clawing. Plus the leaves don't look to be dark enough for nitrogen. Either way, she's kinda slow in bulking up. I wonder if it's due to this stress. It's only been about 2 days now. So I just have to wait for her to finish drinking the overflow of water. Speaking of, it's now late afternoon and she cleared out the reservoir. So it got a nice cleaning. I also discovered the abundance of nutrient gunk in the reservoir which I'm sure was not helping the plant out. This is also the last week of Big Bud and will be changing over to the Overdrive nutrients. There will be 2 weeks of that before flushing. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.4° RH: 51.2% VPD: 1.48 kPa November 12, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: Nothing to do today with this lady. She is happy and packing on weight. Lots and lots of trichomes and beautiful pistils. They are starting to turn orange now, so in a week or 2 I'll be flushing and getting her ready for harvest. Gorilla Cookies: She definitely has nitrogen toxicity. I flushed her this morning with a half gallon of RO water. I feel that's enough for now. Another flush tomorrow with the rest and we will see how she does. Granted her reservoir is still full of nutrients, but with the flush, it should pause reservoir drinking and focus on the water in the soil. I was thinking she was a bit over watered, but she's the same weight as the Strawberry Gorillas and that one has absolutely no stress whatsoever. The other Gorilla Cookies in the big tent like a lot of water as well. So it's my guess the clawing up top is the toxicity levels. Maybe they aren't too bad. But it needs to be fixed either way. However, the leaves aren't too dark everywhere. Just the ones up top. The rest are still pretty vibrant with no signs of stress or clawing or drooping. Update: I'd like to add to what I have been looking at today. I noticed that Strawberry Gorilla had some foliage covering some bud sites, so they came off. The buds are all nice and fat and still growing. I also noticed how long the buds stack on Gorilla Cookies. They are all tall buds. I'm rather excited to see how they come out. And considering they are already all over the plant, I can only expect a decent yield. Nothing crazy though. We shall see. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.0° RH: 50.8% VPD: 1.47 kPa November 13, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She looks wonderful! Big buds and still growing. Pistils are starting to turn orange evenly, but not a lot. No watering needed. That's all for her today. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is stressed and I don't really know why. I'm going to just leave it alone now. I flushed and am waiting for the water soil to dry up. It could be the light. Too close to the tops. Grow System Environment: Temp: 72.7° RH: 50.8% VPD: 1.37 kPa November 14, 2023 Last day of the week. Overdrive nutes start tomorrow. Strawberry Gorilla: More bulking of the buds. She looks great! Her reservoir was completely empty so it got a full refill. She will also be getting a top feed tomorrow with Recharge. It's all prepared now. Nothing else to report with her today. Gorilla Cookies: This lady is still stressed. However she seems to be recovering. She got a full reservoir refill today as it was nearly dried up. Her leaves are starting to pick back up. Not the ones at the top. I think those are permanently stuck in the clawing position. But the rest of the plant looks pretty good now. It might take a few more days to recover. Anyway, she may not get the top feed tomorrow. I'll have to decide tomorrow when I look at her. Maybe I'll have to wait a few days. Or just a small top feed. Either way, she looks good and is packing g on the weight. Buds are starting to swell and she has some nice lush green leaves. Update: I'm almost certain Gorilla Cookies has nutrient lockout. Burning tips, clawing leaves. Definitely needs another flush. For now I removed the wicks so she doesn't have anything but fresh water. I think I'll do that for the next few days. She can hold off on a top feeding for now. I'll probably drop the Micro and Grow base nutrients in half and leave the Bloom where it is. I will drop the Cal/Mag from 4 ml to 3 ml. Add overdrive and leave it alone. I was looking at the Nirvana, which is now known as Tasty Terpenes, and realized this stuff is for flowering. So I may increase the dose for the next couple weeks while they finish up. The changes will start with Strawberry Gorilla and when Gorilla Cookies is ready, she will get the same changes. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.2° RH: 51.8% VPD: 1.37 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

Prilyfe13commenteda year ago
@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

SirVerdePollexcommenteda year ago
@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
