Just a few weeks from harvest and have some friends telling me to harvest and dry with the roots attached. Can't find any info on this. Anybody have experience with drying the whole plant roots included? Their idea is to wash the soil off the roots then hang them upside.

Hi @Potagonia! Yes you can keep the rootzone while drying the whole plant upside-down, this will result in a longer drying process and is supposed to increase the amount of cannabinoids in the buds. I've tried this last year and did not notice any kind of improvement, despite the longer drying process. However, it's stil a good idea to keep the roots, because roots are valuable if you know what to do with it. Indeed, you can use roots to create your own medicine: lip balm, skin cream, anti inflammatory, pain relief paste...So don't throw out your roots unless you really don't know what to do with it. A basic usage is to boil stems & roots for a great canna-infused tea. Hope this will help, keep us up-to-date, and enjoy your harvest! 👊

Hello bro ! So your friend told you what I've been told before my 1st grow and he is right. If you hang your plant with the roots then the surface to dry will be bigger so logically the drying will be longer , and that is the main idea of that method : a longer drying process. What you need to know is that the longer the drying process is done ( with a good relative humidity level , in a dark place and with a good constant airflow ) and the better the taste will be. With the roots your plant will continue to consume chlorophyll and take a clearer colour , and as the chlorophyll is responsible for the bad taste it will help you to get a better and sweeter one ( no harsh taste ) and It will also help during the curing process to obtain a better taste. I hope it will help you 😁✌️🏼

Hey their @potagonia! That's actually an interesting question. It just so happens I did this method 2 grows ago on my diary "Green Crack". I am using DWC hydroponics instead of soil and I just let them drink themselves dry, but in the end the idea is the exact same - a slower more steady drying phase to plants. Its fairly well agreed that the slower you can do the drying process the better the final results will be. For me personally I just left my plants standing and stopped watering them until they dried out then I harvested (I don't suggest this). As your friend said you could Chop the entire plant as one plant and hang it upside down - this is the method I would suggest if you like the "full plant" idea while growing in soil. With this slower drying process you get better taste, but just be sure to watch the humidity levels and make sure they are not HIGH you don't want to cause a mold. Just watch those humidity levels and you can Dry like that if you want! That was a solid question, I hope I could help! 😎

Hi, yes i saw it know it but i dont do it. Its an " oldschool"-thing. The Idea is that the plant gets all juice, and doing alittle ripening. I dont do it because i dont like drytrimming, otherwise its absolutely ok to hang her with the roots upside down. I do it similar. i cut big branches and hang them Upside down( like many growers do)... happy and exciting first grow

Hey @potagonia, this is actually a good idea ! why ? when you hang the plant whole what happens is the plant will struggle for many hours maybe even days to survive and will send all its chemicals and energy away from the flowers to the leaves the stems and the roots. So why its good to keep the roots on is that there is more plant matter that is able to recieve the photosynthesis chemicals. As you know these photosynthesis chemicals is why you have a bad taste sometimes in the weed. So if you hang the plant whole then you will have a smoother and better tasting weed. Simple ! hope this helps bro ! 🚀
