November 15, 2023 Day 71 A new week closer to a wonderful harvest. Although these are 10 week strains, I'm not so sure they will meet the mark. Lol. Maybe 3 weeks left for harvest? Another week of flower. Maybe 2, then a week of flushing. I'd like to see 2 weeks of fade. Not to mention, I'd also like to start flushing when the pistils are about 50% orange. That should give me a week of flushing before harvesting. Strawberry Gorilla: This plant looks great. Her buds are getting fatter by the day. Pistils are steadily turning orange all over, but slowly. I can see maybe another 2 weeks of flower out of her before she needs the flush. But I've never grown this strain so I'm not exactly sure what to expect. Her leaves are starting to get a bit dark and the tips are starting to get a slight burn. I see too much nitrogen. Luckily, today I cut the Base Grow nutes in half. So she should bounce back in no time. She got a full top feed today. About 1.5 liters of water until runoff. Just to get a fresh top watering with some recharge. Gorilla Cookies: She's still upset. Another flush today. She dried out fairly quickly without the bottom feed system. I'll leave it like this for another few days until I see some improvement. I won't flush tomorrow though, I want to let her dry out a bit. Maybe I can start the bottom feed system in a couple days after the last flush, if needed of course. I'll have to empty it out and refill with the new regimen. Anyway, she has some pretty decent buds happening now. Slow to fatten up, but it honestly looks like she is just taking more time than needed to stack. Then she will start to plump up. At least that's what I'm hoping. I don't see why not. This strain seems to take it's time growing. Maybe it's due to her being sativa dominant? That would make sense too. Speaking of, the 3 Gorilla Cookies I'm growing are all different phenotypes. The biggest is definitely an indica dominant, then the next is certainly a hybrid. The one in this tent is taller than the hybrid, but more lanky. Her internodal spacing is long where it's near perfect on the hybrid. Both have advantages. The biggest one, the indica, just started flowering, so I'm not really sure how her internodal spacing will be. Branches are kind of long, but the leaves are huge. So far, from what she has, her internodal spacing will be fairly short. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.1Β° RH: 52.3% VPD: 1.35 kPa November 16, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She looks fantastic! Her buds are nice and bulky. Super dense and ready to pack on more weight. She's definitely not done swelling either. The pistils are still long and not skhriveled up yet. There is an abundance of orange pistils, but it's like 20% all over the plant. Very well distributed. It just tells me I won't be waiting for certain parts to finish up. It should all finish up at the same time, giving me a very healthy harvest. Gorilla Cookies: The burn is still going on. But maybe it's lessening a bit? I'm not really sure, but I'll keep flushing for another day. She got one this morning. After tomorrow, I'm going to reactivate the bottom feed system. Somehow I'm going to have to figure out how to get the full reservoir out without spilling and replenish it with fresh nutrients of the correct measurements. Her buds are starting to swell. Slowly bure surely. That must mean she is getting better. I could be doing it right. Nice. Or not. No clue. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.3Β° RH: 50.2% VPD: 1.50 kPa November 17, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This lady has about 2 weeks left. Her pistils are starting to change a little bit faster now and her buds are super plump. Trichomes are looking really good as well. I can say this is definitely a frosty strain. Anyway, she will be starting Overdrive with the next feeding and the Big Bud will be removed next week. From what I'm seeing, I'll get about 2 weeks more of flowering and then I can flush for a week. So 3 weeks total left for her? Gorilla Cookies: She still looks sad, but now I'm starting to think she won't actually recover the leaves. Maybe it will take another day or so. She doesn't seem to be getting worse at all. Unfortunately I couldn't remove the water without spilling it everywhere, so I reactivated it and will water it down using a gallon of plain water. That should do it. After that, she will be back in the proper feeding regimen. Grow System Environment: Temp: 75.5Β° RH: 50.4% VPD: 1.51 kPa November 18, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: This plant looks really good. I did not expect her to be such a nice looking plant. Or as big as she is in a 1 gallon container. She's totally covered in tops and buds and they are still swelling. Another 2 weeks and she should be ready. Maybe 3. I can't quite tell yet. Gorilla Cookies: This plant is way bigger than I could ever have imagined in a 1 gallon container. I'm not complaining at all. She doesn't seem to be getting any worse so maybe she is recovering. Not to mention, the buds swelled up pretty nicely last night. Depending on how her reservoir looks later today, I might top it off with plain water again. That should do it for the rest of the reservoir. I'll clean it out when it's nearly dried up and fill it with the new nutrient regimen. Update: I changed the feeding regimen entirely. I took out the Base Micro and Grow. I also removed the Cal/Mag. Basically anything with nitrogen in it. There will definitely be enough in the soil to last the rest of the grow. I also increased the Tasty Terpenes to 5 ml and Bud Candy to 5 ml as well. Overdrive and Big Bud stayed the same. Hopefully this helps with the nitrogen issues I'm starting to run into. Grow System Environment: Temp: 76.0Β° RH: 54.4% VPD: 1.41 kPa November 19, 2023 Nothing to do today. Some notes for both plants, but no activity. Strawberry Gorilla: She's looking really good. I'm assuming it'll take a few days for the nutrients to kick in. A few more to use up the rest of the nitrogen in the soil. Her buds are really fat and seem to be swelling a bit more. I'd say another week of flowering then another week of maturing before harvest or even before flushing. Gorilla Cookies: She looks to be bouncing back. The damage on the leaves is permanent, but she should start lightening up quite a bit in the next week or so. Other than that, I have been observing her buds and I'm not seeing much swelling anymore. I'm assuming it was due to the nitrogen toxicity. Now that she's almost recovered, I can only assume she will get back to it in no time. Not to mention the new nutrient regimen. Update: I decided to remove some leaves from both ladies today. Not much. Just enough to open up some space and make some air flow. Strawberry Gorilla got most of it. I took a few off Gorilla Cookies but I want to wait for her to fully recover before I remove anything else. She definitely needs to be cleaned up. Not only inside the canopy, but outside the plant. The leaves are blocking airflow from the sides. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.7Β° RH: 53.0% VPD: 1.35 kPa November 20, 2023 Strawberry Gorilla: She took perfectly to the defoliation and has some nice open space for airflow. She's still super dense with fairly large sugar leaves. She also got a full top watering today. She was really light and the bottom feeding system seems to be inactive. It should fix now that I have some runoff. Gorilla Cookies: This lady got a full defoliation today. Well, about 15% pulled off. She really needed it. Lots of leaves that were just smashed in the middle of the plant. Some on the outside that should have been removed a month ago. Either way, she looks perfectly healthy and needed the defoliation. She needs no water today. Her reservoir will need a refill tomorrow I think. Grow System Environment: Temp: 73.4Β° RH: 49.0% VPD: 1.45 kPa November 21, 2023 Last day of week 10 and both ladies look good. Next week is week 5 of flower and should be getting into the maturing stage. Strawberry Gorilla: I'm very satisfied with how this plant is turning out. It's really cool how she's in a 1 gallon container. Once she is done, I think I'll get a couple ounces from her. I'm hoping for 3 oz, but I'm not expecting it. However, I did grow a watermelon in my last run and I got roughly 2.5 oz from her. She wasn't as solid as this lady. This lady also has bigger buds and more of them. She has very little in popcorn buds because of her short stature. So I should be looking at 3 oz of dried bud. I don't cound trimmings. Although, I maybe should. Not in the final results, but definitely leave it in the notes. Gorilla Cookies: Is definitely feeling better. Her leaves are starting to lighten up and buds are getting fatter. I'm happy that I caught this issue and managed to fix it. Anyway, her bottom feed system is working pretty well. I'm debating how much I want to feed her tomorrow. I think I'll just go to runoff with the recharge. So probably a half gallon. Grow System Environment: Temp: 71.6Β° RH: 49.9% VPD: 1.34 kPa

Grow Questions

Is this FIMed correctly? It's my first time topping or FIMing. I chose to FIM as I've read it can be less stressful on plants. So I'm wondering if I did it correctly. Just after the 4th node. The little pieces sticking out aren't part of the top. Thanks much.

You'll always find people telling you to top or not to top automatic plants. I've topped all my automatic plants and always lst them with great result. If you check out my purple lemonade from fast buds, I've topped and let it and it's flicking huge! Doubled in size compared to all the others. Just do it if you feel like playing around, especially in hydro where the recovery time is minimal.

What LST method should I use with my FIMed Strawberry Gorilla Auto? Should I try to Tie Down? Do I wait for the top shoots to start showing? Tie just the side branches down? Bend the whole plant? Wait and do nothing? Please, all opinions matter. Thanks!

same as any other LST... before it turns woody/rigid to the point it snapps if oyu try to bend it.. that's too late. apical dominance is what you are manipulating. highest growth node takes the most resousrces. permanently or temporarily bending somethign over to even out canopy is an ongoing maintenance process. what space do you need to fill? what is is responsible for in your tent? etc.. shape it as needed. a larger plant you want to keep things bent down and spreading out until it is wide enough to support the size you want - this saves vertical space too. if it's a smaller plant you may just need to spread out branches as they grow vertically a few inches from each other or more... don't have to be as extreme with the bending in that case, but sitll need something to hold it in place - garden wire or scrog etc. if you understand teh cause and effect of apical dominance, you can shape the plant any way you need to. the only wrong way is one that doesnt fit your needs.

Great looking grow so far my brother! We have our little Strawberry Gorilla going now as well....still in week one, but I am watching and learning from your FIM'ing experiences. Keep up the great work!

@Prilyfe13, Guessing on the dried weight, but we will know this week. Jarring it up in the next day or two. It was a massive plant in such a short growing period. It dwarfed what we did with our Orion F1 (which yielded 1.7 oz dried).

@SirVerdePollex, 3-4 oz is pretty good! Congrats on that and at 78 days?! I haven't had a harvest under 90 days. I'm hoping this will be the grow. Under 90 days here I come!

@Prilyfe13, Yeah...Mimosa was a massive plant. Still drying, but probably 3-4 oz dried off one plant in just 78 days from seed to harvest. Impressive!

Nice looking grow! I am planning to FIM or top our next grow (Strawberry Gorilla) so I am certainly following and watching your grow. I have a question for you though. I am curious, why do you think you'll be done in seven weeks? Based on the timing of the plant's vegetative progress (from your photos) and my experience with autos, it will be quite a bit longer than seven weeks. Unless you are talking seven weeks of flowering. Time will tell, but from the looks of it it you have long, beautiful journey as she packs on bids. Good luck!

@Prilyfe13, No worries...glad it's going well and I will certainly be watching. We have a week to ten days left on our Mimosa auto grow. She is huge. Good luck to you with the two gorillas!!

@SirVerdePollex, Thanks for the follow and I'm glad you are learning from my humble diary. I was thinking 7 weeks flower. I think I phrased that wrong. Whoops. I will say the FIM was was a success and the training was successful, but I think I should have waited a few more days to start. Oh well. It's bushy and healthy. That's what matters.

The supplemental lighting helped a lot. No more falling leaves at the moment. I should be able to squeeze a few more days out of her for better lower buds.
